I watched this last night and enjoyed it. I liked all the additions you made, the shots were cleverly added and were seamless. My only complaint is that you removed my favourite line - "English motherf****r, do you speak it?". The trailer was great too.
I'll be checking your Innocent Blood Edit next. Thanks MOLLO.

I'll get streight to the point. I found the pace just too fast, just jumping from scene to scene. I feel there needs to be time to let the dread and eeriness to sink in. I found it lacking atmosphere.
Thank you for this version. I still enjoyed it but I have to rate it as a movie and not an edit. 6/10 (editing: 9/10)

I'm going to have to go against the grain here. I felt all of the insertions from other sources were _very_ terrible. They were highly obvious as they didn't fit thematically or stylistically. A few of them were used for jump scares, several ran too long, and nearly all of them were used multiple times. I was also unimpressed by the new ending. It felt like it belonged on a 70s/80s euro horror movie, with about the same budget and editing capability (and most of those movies were pretty terrible too).

If you had stuck with just the cuts and maybe tried to find a way to salvage the original ending or create a new one by rearranging scenes (only from Event Horizon), it might have worked out pretty well. As is, I cannot recommend that anyone watch this version. (Note: I watched the AVI titled Killer Horizon. Judging from this page, I'm not sure if this is the final version.)

Any 'fun' that was in the original is gone. No joking around. Minimal crew conflicts. There's lots of flash cuts inserted from the the ghost face in the exorcist, and lots of 'HELL' slo-mos inserted from 'Sunshine' also a good insert from Pinbacker's shake cam when you first see him in the observation room. Lots of new music I believe too. I did like the trip to hell and darker ending. Never would have flown w/ Paramount.

For some reason I never rated this back when it came out. I enjoyed it a lot. The movie itself still has problems, but for the vision and how the changes work to make this a better movie, I give it 9 / 10. Great editing here.

Great fan edit and a marked improvement over the original film. I liked Event Horizon but felt it was lacking in certain areas. I'll watch this fan edit a lot more than the original in future.

I just watched your edit. Very nice. I remember hating this movie when it came out. Now it was actually something that I could watch again. Really creepy, too.

My biggest concern, though, was that I didn't know how I was supposed to feel in this movie. And I wasn't sure what message the film was trying to send. Was I supposed to be rooting for the characters (who all die)? Was it a realization of karma (which really only affects the two central characters)? Since both Weir and Peters get it in the end, I'm guessing it's about how their actions have damned themselves and their crew to horrible fates, however, this didn't really sit well with me. I guess I wanted a little more redemption in the movie (though maybe that's not something a fanedit could accomplish).

Watched this last night (wife watching Eurovision, the worst annual event ever!) - absolutely phenomenal. Really took this film by the horns and the extra sources brought this film to life. Now a real sense of doom throughout the whole film and I kinda like the confusing atmosphere - adds to the thrill.

A Fan-Edit classic, methinks!

holy crap! talk about scary!

i think the editing is VERY well done and i completely enjoyed this edit. mollo takes a mostly average, disturbing sci-fi flick and converts it to an enormously entertaining psychological horror film.

my only nitpick from an entertainment standpoint, is i could have done without most of the cuts away from the ship to the horribly disgusting, writhing woman. kinda was a downer for me. still 5/5.

Event Horizon was cool idea- kind of an attempt to mix elements of 2001, The Shining, and Alien - with a dash of The Philadelphia Experiment thrown in. It has a lot of positives, solid production design & visual effects and a mostly talented cast. Unfortunately, the rest of it -dialogue, characters, story- never really comes together. It borrows from other films, but doesn't deliver anything new of it's own. It has a few OK moments, but also has a lot of "huh?"- corny lines, confusing plot points, etc. From my point of view, it is pretty deeply flawed in a lot of ways. So, plenty of opportunity for a creative faneditor to apply his skills. Enter Mollo.

I have seen a few of Mollo's edits now and can fairly say I believe his skills improve with each new edit- of course, technically he has always been way above average in the video and audio departments. So far this ranks as the best edit of his I have seen overall, both creatively and technically. Mollo strives for perfect with each edit- you know you are always getting his best effort. He also seems to like coloring outside the lines, always thinking of alternate routes form point A to B and isn't afraid to take risks to get there. The more his skills improve, the more this approach is paying off. I think the guy may well create a perfect fanedit one day. Killer Horizon is certainly a step in that direction for him.

As I said, this is his finest work, for me, so far. Firstly, the video quality is top rate. And the titles are expertly done, and mesh perfectly with the new opening music. I was particularly impressed with the insertion of footage from other films, which is by now sort of a Mollo trademark. Here I found it his most seamless use of this technique by far. Really imaginative and assured, very smartly done. They give the film much needed jolts of energy. Especially good is Justin being "tempted" (although it might have been nice to hear a female voice seductively calling his name before he puts his hand in). Audio-wise, the work here is fantastic, really impressive. From the new soundtrack to the new little bits of sound design here it was a magnificent job. One thing I would have left out: The "I am Lucifer" dialogue near the end. It sort of made the evil more "Earthbound" in a sense, less universal. Plus I recognized it straight off. But this is more of a storytelling quibble, for technique my hat goes off to you. Flawless.

While Mollo has given it much more direction and life I still did not find it to be too great of a movie in terms of character and narrative flow. And I found myself not really caring to much about the characters- they didn't seem to have any real relationship with each other and some were just not that strong anyway. Plus, I never got the sense of location or proximity. I wasn't sure where some things were taking place, or how far characters were from each other at various times. Plus, some of the side characters didn't seem to be affected at all by the mysterious goings on, so overall there was not an all-encompassing atmosphere of claustrophobic fear. The danger level is not really felt all the time. But, most of this is due to the problematic source material. The crew just does not seem all that smart or together to begin with, and there are some questionable logical and motivational choices made throughout. And frankly Sam Neill for me is never a very interesting actor. Here is no exception; he just doesn't seem to have it in him to give the sort of slowly unhinging madman performance that I think the role required.

While it still sports a few logical gaps and some weak characters and dialogue, Mollo has done much to improve the original. By adding a more sinister tone through the intelligent use of new visuals and enhancements to the sound design/soundtrack (as well as cutting out some "huh?" stuff) Mollo effectively makes it a better watching experience. However, for me, the result is now simply an average sci-fi movie instead of a rather bad and boring one.

Video/Audio: An enthusiastic 5
Editing: 5
Entertainment/Story: 2.5

Overall: 4
Again, Mollo delivers a product that is superior to the original.

1. I was very impressed with your editing and the flow of the movie.

2. Wicked edit and the one time I wasn't bothered by a film not having some kind of "happy ending", as it was so well done.

I was a little disappointed, especially with the ending. I actually went upstairs, grabbed my original copy and watched from Sam Neill saying.. 'Where were going you won't need eyes' as it seemed chopped. I'm not being critical, I couldn't do a fanedit, just reporting back my overall impression. 3/5 for me, good but could do better.

This is a great edit, definately better than the original. I loved the new ending, it made the original look like hollywood crap. I personally would've left out the sun scenes from sunshine, they were just weird to me. They felt out of place but I quess I didn't understand the point of them. Anyway, a highly recommended edit!

Oh yeah, now we're talking. This is a fine piece of fanediting. I appreciate the care and effort involved.

I did not bother re-watching the original. I just remembered that it was tedious and silly. This version is not.

Mollo has tightened up the story and added his own visual/sound effects to create the version that might have been.

The biggest compliment I can pay this faneditor is that I was able to lose myself in the story and forget that it was a fanedit.
Well done.

On a technical level Audio and Video are impeccable. On the editing level, it is seamless. On a story editing/entertainment level, I enjoyed the movie.

For me this film became KILLER FANEDIT

Go and Enjoy.

An interesting documentary about Pazuzu's interest in space exploration. :)

Enjoyed this edit muchly. A few rough edges, but nothing to get too worked up about. (One spelling mistake and a few continuity gaffs.)

I love the approach of the new ending. Amazing how easily an early sequence becomes chilling when moved to the climax.

If you enjoyed the original Event Horizon, check this one out. If you didn't care for it, you should still check this one out.

Comment by Fathermerrin - Sat 25 Oct 2008

Just watched this film. I really liked it. I did think it was over a bit too quickly, but hey rather that than a drawn out film. I like all the added stuff.

Last word on the film, the ending. Wow!!! I thought the end of Event Horizon was OK but Killer Horizon's ending was epic. So good infact I went back & watched the ending a second time just to take it all in properly. That should of been the ending in the original.

Excellent work Mollo.

I have to agree with most of the comments here. You took a movie with a great concept and poor execution and made it as it should have been

WHAT WORKED (for me):

(1) the opening - it is very much along the line of JC's THE THING and ALIEN, with the quiet interior shots establishing the setting while (as with JC's TT) telling us that "something bad is going to happen here in the future."
I also like the dream sequence of Dr. Weir showing the ship in essence "calling him" to it.

(2) the editing of excess blather - gone are the more comedic or redundant explanatory scenes; it really helps the movie not only flow and keep to the central core of the horror, but it no longer treats me as an audience member as too stupid to either figure out what is going on or better still (as with ALIEN) come up with my own interpretations as to what is happening.

(3) the added effects and shots - I like the inclusion of the EXORCIST demon, as it gives the ship's evil soul a face to connect to. It is no longer just random gross shots thrown at the viewer. I also like the additions of the gate/ship tempting the characters, be it the beginning of the movie with Weir or the others such as Baby Bear and Mama Bear (the 'reflection in the eye" shots were really nice; I couldn't help but be reminded of DRAGON'S DOMAIN from SPACE:1999 where the creature hypnotized it's potential victims to expose themselves). It gives the ship a sense of having more power and also explains why Justin/Baby Bear and Mama Bear would go off on their own and essentially get themselves killed.

(4) the appropriately "70's" ending - THIS is what I wanted from EVENT HORIZON: an ending that pulls no punches. Some of that imagery is pretty damn fantastic, like the shot with the oval portals with the EH in the center background. I also love how it was very evocative of 2001.

WHAT DIDN'T WORK (or needs some extra work):

(1) the 2nd EMILY ROSE insert - while I do like the first really quick shot of her in the central open doorway, the second and longer clip shown when Larry Fishburne says "It's all in your head" was probably too much, in that the effects with the blackening out around her face was a little sloppy and it went on long enough to bring me out of the movie (having recognized that it was not just an image but almost an entire scene from EMILY ROSE). If you could replace that with a quick shot of the EXORCIST face you use (maybe combining it with shots of the gate again), that would work better and look cleaner. Maybe keep ER's voice with maybe some audio manipulation to go with the whispering sound of her voice (as opposed to a deepening of her voice like Freddy Krueger).

(2) the end shot of the Event Horizon approaching Earth - the shot from DEEP IMPACT needs some more work, as you can clearly see a box over the 1st half of the comet in the foreground that is being covered up. You may have to create a new starfield (ala Adywan's SW: ANH - Revisited).

(3) the reverse shot of the EH coming OUT of Neptune/ Earth? - It's clearly a reversal of the first shot of the EH going into the black hole on Neptune - consider deleting that scene of the EH coming out the same hole it went in from (as it is confusing in that it implies the EH is either coming back out in Neptune or coming out of Earth's atmosphere, thus why show the EH approaching Earth?) and replacing it with a new shot for the Event Horizon coming out of "hyperspace". Maybe you could modify a shot from STARGATE: the beginning shot when everyone first goes into the Stargate and you have the stars come from the edges of the screen and converge, maybe you could take that shot and reverse it, so you start with the brilliant white light which separates as the stars move AWAY from the center and possibly add a view of Earth through the black opening, then cutting to the modified DEEP IMPACT shot as it approaches Earth.

(3) if there is any way to do a dual-layer version with higher quality video, that would be fantastic. I am also aware that some of the shots may be the best they will ever look, so this is a minor quibble. As it stands, the video is still very good (also keep in mind I am also using a 65" HDTV too)

Regardless, this is a pretty fantastic edit. You took a film I would never want to watch again and now I consider worthy of putting beside THE BEYOND, HALLOWEEN and others that will be getting a lot of replay especially during this time of the year.

Thanks again!

Well done Mollo. I'm a fan of the original and this is adventurous and skilful work.

I don't quite know how you pulled off the final 10 minutes like you did, but it works as a completely valid alternative ending in my view.

Event Horizon was never a perfect film, so neither is this, but what you've done with the movie is amazing.

Thanks.

I'm simply blown away with this edit. I never really cared for Event Horizon as it just didn't work for me. Now I've seen the film the way it should have been, absolutely awesome, and now the original can gather dust forever on the shelf. All I can add is thanks for creating a stunning film more than worthy of high 5's all round. Brilliant.

I enjoyed the original when it came out some years ago, and it'd been a while since I sat down to watch it again. So I watched this a few nights ago, and I can't say I was disappointed.

I loved the interspliced scenes, flashes of craziness, etc. Well done. I didn't notice any technical flaws that stood out, video or audio -wise. Everything seemed to flow, and I enjoyed it. I don't rate anything as perfect - nothing's perfect - but I'll rate it as high as I can on a .5 increment scale, and that's 4.5/5.0 ...awesome job Mollo!

When I first saw Even Horizon in the theater it was one of the scariest movies I'd seen. You managed to make the scary moments even more scary!

The gate tempting Justin to touch the open portal was a nice addition, better illustrating why he stops reporting anything to the other crew members before putting his hand in.
Overall nice new scary visuals when each crew member is reacting/seeing their worst nightmares come to reality.
Although I think I liked the original ending a bit better, overall you made the movie scarier and thus better I'd say. I Liked the new voice overs and music as well. Great job!
