INTENTION:
My original intention with this edit was to create an epic-length, experimental version of “Grease” by combining both films into one coherent whole. Rather than present one after another (as “Grease 2″ takes place two years later), I have intercut the two films as though they took place during the same 1961 school year.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS:
The original version of this edit was an on-and-off project I worked on between 2007 and 2010; and though I was originally satisfied with how that version came out, technical issues put a limit on how many people could see it. To make a long story short, the first version was created with MPEG Video Wizard, and while the resulting files could be burned to DVD’s (ONLY with MPEG Video Wizard, I might add), the discs were a bit odd. Some players wouldn’t read them at all, while other players (and software, such as Media Player Classic) became confused when the movies switched – oddly, MPC would completely change the aspect ratio for “Grease 2,” resulting in a horizontally stretched picture.

This new version was created entirely within Adobe Premiere Pro. The original corrupted files were placed into Premiere, along with brand new rips of “Grease” and “Grease 2.” Trying my best to match the original version frame-by-frame (and keeping the original audio intact), I replaced every piece of footage with a fresh new copy. The resulting files, as well as the DVD’s I burned from them, should be viewable by everyone.

EDIT DETAILS:
For those who are familiar with both movies, I want the flow and chronology of this edit to be a bit of a surprise. But, some examples of how the films intertwine:
After the opening titles with Danny and Sandy at the beach, the “Grease” animated titles play out without any visual changes – but with the song ‘Back To School Again’ from “Grease 2″ rather than Barry Gibb’s song. (Amazingly, BTSA is completely in sync with the visuals, as though it were originally intended for the first movie.)
Both sets of characters are seen arriving for the first day of school.
The entire gym class scene from “Grease 2,” where Michael asks Frenchy how to attract Stephanie, is inserted between the backseat sex and ‘Greased Lightning’ scenes from the first film.
DiMucci visits Michael in his fall-out shelter the same night that Danny and Sandy go to the Frosty Palace.
Louis attempts to seduce Sharon with ‘Do It For Our Country’ on prom night.
The entire chunk of “Grease 2″ from the Cool Rider arriving at the gas station to Michael and Stephanie’s burger joint date is inserted between the Hand Jive and drive-in (“Sandy”) scenes. This actually makes the lapse of time in Danny and Sandy’s story at this point more realistic and understandable.
The carnival (from the first movie) and luau (from the second movie) now take place on the same day. I bridged these together using a little editing slight-of-hand – after “You’re The One That I Want,” Miss McGee announces over the P.A. that the students should now report to the luau.
Since “Grease” ends in the daytime and “Grease 2″ ends at night, I had to make an ending that wrapped up the stories for ALL characters, as the first movie’s characters would otherwise disappear fifteen minutes too soon. I managed to do this, even keeping the ‘flying car’ ending intact… but you’ll have to see the edit and check it out for yourself…….
The end credits are a combination from both films, as both followed the same ‘yearbook pages’ style.

CUTLIST:

Most of the deleted material involves “Grease 2,” for logistical reasons I’m about to explain…
(Grease) – As mentioned before, the Barry Gibb-Frankie Valli title song has been replaced quite effectively with “Grease 2″’s ‘Back To School Again.’
(Grease 2) – Much of the long “Back To School Again” dance sequence has been removed, except for a shot of the Pink Ladies’ car arriving, and a conversation between the T-Birds. The song has been mixed out of the T-Bird scene, where the students are now dancing to a radio playing “La Bamba” (an intentional tie-in to Rizzo singing it later on).
(Grease 2) – McGee’s first-day announcements have been cut, since a very similar scene appears in “Grease.”
(Grease 2) – Mr. Spears, the mentally-disturbed teacher, has been removed almost entirely. Not only is he a pointless character, but the same actor (Dick Patterson) appears in “Grease” as another teacher.
(Grease 2) – The scene in which Mr. Stuart’s students all simultaneously ditch his class has been shortened; the shot of them rushing out into the hallway is used earlier in the edit, in a completely different context.
(Grease 2) – A brief, needless shot of Michael spray-painting his bike has been cut.
(Grease 2) – A scene after “Who’s That Guy,” in which Michael talks about his alter-ego with Frenchy, has been removed – at this point in the first “Grease” story, Frenchy’s hair is changing colors. This scene shows Frenchy with her natural red hair.
(Grease 2) – I removed “Charades,” as it would’ve appeared right before “There Are Worse Things I Could Do,” and two sad ballads in a row seemed excessive.
(Grease) – “We Go Together” is gone, except for two very brief shots of carnival rides that I used for a different purpose, and the ending shots of Danny and Sandy in the car. No trace of the song itself remains.
(Grease 2) – Two shots were cut from the luau, one involving Mr. Spears walking into the pool, and another being a ridiculously silly slow-motion shot of Cool Rider/Michael jumping off a roof.
