Just finished watching Redeemed like 2 minutes ago. Given the source material, I have to say ADM, that was pretty damn good. The main fawls are in the original source material (like Superman standing there watching Nuclear Gay Man lay waste to cops and people for like 5 minutes, WTF?!?!). There is one cut during the UN speech that was rather quick, but that was minor. I have the original Superman dvds (not the new set) and I don’t remember the moon fight being like that. I sat there watching with my roommate, and we pointed out all the curtain and wire shots, which was alot. The explanation of HOW Superman becomes “Bizarro” was actually rather good, imo. Just seeing the footage from all 3 movies kinda pulled me out for a tick (that’s from 3, that’s from 4, back to 2, we’re at 4 again), but it flowed rather well. I haven’t gotten the Hybrid yet (gonna pull that at work tonight), so it was good use of the Eiffel Tower scene (which I loathed in Superman II). Great edit to make a watchable movie.
BTW Darth Editous, the scene where you took out Gus…..holy freakin GOD, you are the shit!!! To quote “The Game”, “You’re just that damn good.”
This edit is highly recommend and has the good Dr’s seal of approval.

I thought it was pretty good, but lacking in a few parts. Like when Supes gets scratched, he just instantly turns into bad Superman. Why not use some of the ‘getting sick’ stuff first to show a more gradual transformation? Also, the junkyard scene might have been helped by intercutting it with something else, because I don’t like the length or pace of the scene itself. I had other notes, but I have forgotten them.

I just watched this movie and honestly it was pretty damn good, I do however think that the ending was very weak because it ended 4 times, giving the ring to lana, showing the ring to lois, talking to the reporters, dropping lex off at Jail..
personally believe the reporter sceen could have been left out and the lex ending doesn;t work since the talk of mozart was not included earlier in the movie
I do however love the lana love story, how it spaned the entire movie and pretty much ended on that note, it gave me hope for supermans poor broken heart

Finally got round to watching this yesterday and I got to say I think ADM did a remarkable job combining these movies.
All of the transitions were very smooth. Having not seen 3 and 4 in ages, I didn’t feel like I was jumping from movie to movie.
I actually think the Paris scene worked well, it kept Lois in the story, and it was a strong Superman moment.
I liked the Lana lovestory arc throughout the movie.
I agree with Ilubu about the Lex returning to jail – I didn’t mind the scene but I didn’t get the Mozart reference (like I said – ages since I saw the movies).
Nukeboy is still and annoying enemy but I can live with that.

Okay, I just saw this last night. Brilliant! Some notes:
* For some reason my cheap-o plays-all-regions Apex DVD player from WalMart won’t play ADM’s opening credits correctly. The music plays smooth as silk, but the visual credits freeze, stutter, etc. It must be my player because the credits played fine on my work PC. I’ll have to test it on the NTSC-only DVD player at work sometime. A shame I can’t play the credits at home, but again, not ADM’s fault.
* Nice use of the Paris scene. It gives Lois something to do in the movie, considering Jimmy Olsen got his own big scene earlier (and it’s easy to figure out that she bounced from Bermuda to Paris to do the story). Of course, its inclusion means that I’d have to show the Supes II Hybrid cut to someone *before* they see Redeemed, so they’re not all like “Hey, this was in Supes II”. Or maybe I’ll just explain it to them. Smile
* Excellent pacing between the Paris and UN scenes. The Brando voiceover made perfect sense.
* The Supes IV scratch causing Superman to become a Supes III jerk: Totally worked. If I’d been in grade school, it still would have made sense. And seeing the moon battle so soon after the junkyard battle was great, almost playing out like one long battle scene.
* Some odd but necessary edits in the music (some of which may even be in the original movies, heheh), which don’t take me out of the film at all.
* The final speech scene after Lane shows Lois her ring: I accept it. Makes for a nice last moment with Jimmy, Lois, and Superman.
* At first, the Mozart thing at the end seemed a little odd from no longer being a callback (to a Supes IV breakout scene that wasn’t used in this edit), but mainly because I *knew* it was a callback (This was the one Supes film I saw in a movie theater). I’d rather have the Otis and Tessmacher cameos from the alternate Supes II anyway, so I think ADM did the right thing. It still worked.
* Having seen all four Chris Reeve movies, and knowing where each scene came from, I still bought it. This is a damn good Supes movie. You have truly redeemed the Man of Steel. Highly recommended. Can’t wait to watch the other edits (which I have, but need time to watch…Had to shoehorn time to watch Redeemed, I was so anxious to see it).

While Superman is nowhere near my favorite comic book characters, i do enjoy to a degree his big screen outings; same as other people around here i hadn’t seen the third movie since it first came out… and i think i never even saw the fourth one, knowing it was no good.
I have to commend ADM on a great work getting those two bad movies into one cohesive and sensefull story, IMHO in the big screen Lana and Clark work so much better than Lois and Clark; and while Nukeboy is not a great villain, he seemed like a proper magnitude threat to Superman. No Gus or any other comic relief character is certainly mostly welcome. Lex’s escape and schemes do make more sense and feel in place.
I have a few feedback comments:
I completely agree with beckmen’s comments regarding the almost instant transformation into “I don’t care” Superman after nukeboy scratches his neck, i think a couple minutes of getting sick would have helped.
There are two repeated scenes of the camera spanning up Metropolis buildings, i guess there wasn’t enough material to do a lot of variations, its a minor thing tough.
Way i see it, leaping from a a Hydrogen bomb threat to dismantle all Nuclear weapons is a bit of a stretch; but it is an effective way to stitch the story together. And the cynic in me found it hard to buy that every country would play with Supes’ plan to get rid of all nuclear weapons, but i guess this is that kind of show…
Review by havok1977 — January 2, 2008 @ 6:01 pm
ADigiMan,
Nice work. Seemless editing makes this utterly plausible. Your technical ability is second to none.
I bought the leap from Hydrogen bomb to the ‘quest for peace’.
I also bought the scratch to make evil Superman.
Problems are related to the source material.
Superman III has a different pace and theme to the ridiculous Superman IV and they don’t entirely mesh well….we have pointless action and badly acted Superman IV meshed with the nicer, better parts of Superman III.
My problems with this film are related to the source material – Superman IV – even the scenes you’ve left in – integral to the plot – are still bad.
It’s a nice effort(technically brilliant), but perhaps we should just leave Supes IV to die.
Well done, all the same.

Holy cow… just finished watching “Redeemed,” and I was really, really impressed!! I did not really know what to expect as far as how seemless the editing would be or how well the story would flow (this is actually the first fan-edit movie I’ve ever seen), but it exceeded my expectations in both regards. I was not expecting that entire characters (Gus Gorman, Ross Webster, and Lacy Warfield) would be completely removed from the movies!! But they are not missed at all!!
The Lana Lang/Smallville plot was woven well throughout… the use of the Paris terrorist scene from II to kick-off the nuclear arms plot was well-done (I haven’t watched the Hybrid Cut of II yet but I am assuming he did not use the Paris scene in that cut?)… I also liked how he used the alternate prison escape from II to get Lex out of jail instead of the ridiculous escape from IV….
At first I was disappointed that it seemed like he had been forced to omit the “Superman goes bad” plot that culminates in the Superman/Clark Kent junkyard fight, arguably the coolest part of III…. I felt sure he was just not going to be able to fit it in without having Gus Gorman and the synthetic kryptonite. But then, having Nuclear Man’s scratch cause him to go bad instead, that was really, really clever, and at that moment I really appreciated how much thought must have gone into this edit.
There are lots of other little details that work well here, too… Lois leaving for her vacation at the beginning, then we see her in Pairs for the terrorist attack (still works because Perry says he had Lois flown to Paris to cover the story, he does not say she flew from Metropolis), and then at the end when Lois comes back there is the line about how she is the only reporter who can go on a vacation and come back with a great story like that…. the fact that these scenes are from different films and it still works so well is awesome. Likewise, Clark’s line when he first hears about the terrorist attack….. Perry asks where he’s been, and Clark says “At home…” We’d just seen him in Smallville in the previous scene, which was from a different film. Works great!!
Review by Russkafin — March 25, 2008 @ 4:09 pm
Just getting around to reading some of these comments … thank you all for what you’ve written so far. Russkafin, you caught a lot of the subtleties that I intended and I’m glad to see it. There was one more too that I’m surprised nobody has ever mentioned. Clark says he was “at home” yes … but on top of that, he says he was “reading Dickens.” In my mind, he was making a reference to “A Tale of Two Cities.” i.e. Smallville and Metropolis.

WOW!! I love what this edit does for III and IV. ALL the great bits and none of the crap!!! Superman III was my favourite as a kid (OK, not so much anymore, but heaps of Superman moments for a young boy to look forward to!!) and Superman IV was a little ho hum at any age! Editing the two together into (most importantly) a coherent story is a stroke of genius! This is a great edit to introduce my kids into the world of Superman as it is jam packed with lots of Superman moments (they like Clark Kent, but are busting for him to change in to Superman whenever he is on screen). ADM… to call you a skilled editor is not high enough praise for even thinking of the possibility and then executing a seamless merge of these movies is astounding! Many thanks!!

Review by Molasar — September 15, 2008 @ 6:01 pm
Nice job here. How do you make 2 really bad movies one good movie? Looks like someone found a way. I have the whole Superman movie collection and i never watch 3 and 4 because they suck.
But you took the best elements of each and made a very enjoyable movie out of it. The worst of each movie was cut (well, we still have Nuclear Man) and the story flowed nicely. Those cuts from Supes II to add Lois and Perry was a nice touch. It really felt like they were a big part of this when they were barely in either film.
I always thought the Lana scenes would be boring but they were put in just the right places. And of course where Superman fights himself which was put towards the end before the big showdown with Nuclear Man. This was a nice touch.
The only thing i would have left out was the Supes fight on the moon. The cgi on that was terrible and i would have liked Supes to just leave him on the planet in that elevator so he couldn’t regain his strength. But this is only a minor gripe.
The film and audio quality is excellent. Nice job and thanks for making me want to watch 3 and 4 now.

Editing a 9, re-imagining the story & narative a 10, the UN scene does take you out as it jumps, This is my second fanedit to watch. I only recently discovered this site and will be checking it out more often, I am currently downloading the Hybrid Cut and look forward to seeing it. How ironic it was for me to stumble onto this site, I once did the same thing to poor horror movies often stringing them together into Tales from the Crypt like movies on vhs I might add and the hours it took to get it just right.. I can really appreciate the work that goes into making something like this and the prowess in using new digital software to make nearly to purely seamless edits and enhancements.
Now the movie I found it quite enjoyable but there is a streak in me that would like to see this reworked to include to some degree the pryor/evil computer storyline yet I don’t want to take away from the major accomplishment made in this edit definetely a must see. Congratulations on winning me over ADM. I will be coming back for more and you have sparked my interest in learning to use some of these great new software tools in recreating some of my most notable fanedits of old. The H.P. LoveCraft collection of b-movies into tales like movies. Thank You and keep up the good work, inspired at 45 to get back in my editing saddle.

This is the one that has finally convinced me to give fan edits a go. The Batman Forever/The Dark Knight edit tweaked my interest when I first read about it but I just thought the movie was too lame to give the fan-edit a decent chance to improve much on the quality. After seeing the Richard Donner cut of Superman II and loving it (even with the audition footage, which IMHO is a much better scene than the accidental reveal of Lester’s version) I decided to make that the definitive version and wanted more of the same. When I tripped over this fan-edit I was desperate to see what ADM could make of these two movies in the hopes he would give Christopher Reeve one last moment of glory.
Effort and creative flair to pick the scenes out of the whole for this reimagining of the story has go to be 5/5.
*****SPOILERS*****
Using the Lester Paris scene was inspired, even though the scene itself is weak (but there’s nothing can be done to counter the appalling acting and direction!)
Another inspired choice was the NuclearMan scratch to bring about the Bizzarro transformation, but I have to agree with the other posters about the speed with which the transformation happens, and I agree that some of the scenes from IV where Supes/Clark gets sick would ease this.
The footage from Superman II and III blends almost seamlessly (I’m a huge fan and couldn’t help noticing which film which footage came from, but it wasn’t distracting to me, if anything it made the experience more pleasurable because as a fan I could see what ADM had gone through to create this cut), and even some of the footage from IV fitted in perfectly (like parts of the NuclearMan terorising downtown scene where the men in suits wear hats!) though that was more by luck than design I should imagine based on the available footage. The rest fit in well, with the obvious jarring of Lenny Luthor’s outlandish suits.
The short running time means the film rips along but this edit somehow manages to reflect the mood of Donner’s films in certain scenes (how I don’t know – all credit to ADM for achieving this), but some of the more campy or overacted scenes (like Lex “firing” the nuclear arms dealers) and elaborate exposition and set-up from the axed story lines (I’m looking at you, thermally unstable acid!) were still superfluous to requirements IMHO.
Unfortunately this edit can’t escape that it’s been cobbled together from two and a half weak films, and though it’s huge fun and I highly recommend it to any fan (my nephew doesn’t have a choice – this is what he’ll be watching instead of the originals) it still isn’t a movie that actually redeems Superman.
But all in all, given the source material, an outstanding job. Think I’ll go give The Dark Knight a try now…

Firstly, I would like to thank ADigitalman for his diligence and fanedit.org for the service they provide. This was the very first fanedit that I saw, EVER, and it is still my favorite. I saw all 5 Superman movies in the theaters and have had all of them in VHS, DVDs and now HD-DVD (I guess I will also buy the BluRay (when I eventually get a player)). As much as I would have LOVED to have seen what FANTASTICAL CRAPTASTICALNESS a complete Supes 4 would have been, this movie was added to my collection as an integral part of the series. I loved the way that everything fell together, and it was a welcome event to see these two highly maligned movies come together to form a composite whose enjoyment value is more that the sum of it’s parts. Please continue your endeavors guys, you have a new lifetime fan, and i soon as my next paycheck comes, I will show my support for the site, proper.

So where was Gus supposed to be again?? Seriously, this was just plain amazing.
I do not wish to discourage other fan editors, but ADM rules Superman movies. To take that crown away seems an insurmountable task. I don’t usually like to give 10 out of 10 because there’s always something that still bothers me, but every 10 I’ve given has been to an ADM production.
There are a few minor aggravations like the sudden pan in/out during the UN speech and the semi-awkward bizarro transformation, but nothing that takes away from the overall accomplishment of the editor’s vision. The improvement to the two films is so overwhelming that I can’t in good conscience dock points for minor tech glitches.
This is now a true Superman movie, no longer a miserable set of sequels that fans repress in their minds. Thank you ADM. And thank you to boon all who keep fanedit.org alive so that we, the little people, can stay informed about inspired projects such as this.
Review by buddythegoon — April 20, 2009 @ 5:54 pm
Just watched Superman Redeemed. First, this was my first ever viewing of a fanedit, and I have got to say, that in terms of quality, this was bar none, fabulous. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought this was a whole new cut of superman IV (with elements of Superman II and III).
That aside, I felt like a good deal of the movie lacked a central narrative. It seemed very disjointed. I don’t think this is due to my memory of where the different pieces came from (It’s been years since I sat down and watched Superman II, III and IV). I understand the over-arching story that superman goes home and reaquaints himself with Lana (and all the smallville stuff). I futher understand the over-arching story of the atomic bombs and superman’s quest for piece, and the idea for Nuclear Man’s corruption of Superman. I get these. However, I rather felt that in a movie–which needs to deal with fewer ideas than a novel or season of a tv show–that the collision of these two themes did not work well.
I also felt that the movie Superman Redeemed was more of Superman IV than III (and the beginning of II), and so if you were going to make this film tighter, I would advise cutting the majority of the Smallville scenes. The scene with the factory, for example, adds nothing to the story of superman’s quest for peace. Ditto for the cornfield and the key to the city. Furthermore, while my favorite part of Superman III was always superman being evil and then fighting himself, it just doesn’t seem to work in terms of NuclearMan’s corruption of Superman. Not only do Superman’s bad antics seem rushed, but the touch is not so noticable. Perhaps if you had rotoscoped superman so that the viewers discovered that all of him glowed for several seconds… maybe that would have made the transition smoother.
In terms of disjointedness, it did occur to me, however, that these two films may have worked better had they been cut as episodes of a tv season of Superman. With expert cutting, you may be able to get away with half a decent tv series that successfully integrates both story arcs.
Review by aarkus — June 4, 2009 @ 1:54 pm
Not a whole lot more to say that hasn’t been said, so I’ll just say that this is among my top 3 fanedits ever! ADM did some of his best work on this one, using two far from perfect movies. The way the movies were blended together so cleverly, keeping all the best stuff and trimming the fat, is quite a feat. It’s a really fun watch and of course, the contribution that [the hopefully not late, but still great] Darth Editous made to the project is a sight to behold! (or not to behold, in a way) Oh, and I definitely disagree with aarkus, who suggests cutting the majority of the Smallville scenes. What for? They are part of what makes this edit fun and I would never want to see them removed. Besides, how short do you want the movie anyway? :p
Even if, like many, you know what III and IV are like, you should definitely give this a try. I’m SO glad I did! I have shared it with many people and they are all very impressed, to the point where they’ve written more about it than I have in one case.
I love this edit and I give it a 9 out of 10. Cannot recommend it highly enough!
Review by Ripplin — August 1, 2009 @ 1:07 am
Just finished watching this movie. Took me a while to figure out the process of turning it into an actual DVD. I’m new to all this. Gotta say, I’m impressed with the finished product. It really is a completely different movie. I didn’t know that such a thing was possible. No Richard Pryor was a HUGE plus. The bit with SuperMan tricking Nuclear Man into thinking he was in the elevator was genius! Loved that. Very well done over all. For any Superman fan this is definitely worth seeing. I’m about 3/4 of the way through downloading SuperMan II: Hybrid cut. Can’t wait.
My only beef (and a minor one at that) is that the initial Nuclear Man fight is cut short. This has kind of sparked my imagination. I can’t help but wonder if that cut footage couldn’t have been integrated into the film after Superman becomes good again, and leading right into their meeting in Metropolis. Granted, I know a lot of that was meh, but there was some enjoyable parts to it, and it would have made for one long battle. I also have to agree. Showing Super Man being sick for a little bit before going bad would have been a worthwhile addition. But I agree with a post up there, I totally bought the scratch turning him bad business. That was awesome. No Lenny, or the Warfields was also way awesome. Loved this.
Two other things that come to mind, is whether or not the footage of Nuclear Man’s worldwide shenanigans couldn’t have been interspersed with Super Man going bad, to further along Luthor’s World domination business; maybe with footage from II, where the guy says to the President, “where’s Super Man?” and then showing Supes’ “evil” shenanigans. Also wondering if the footage of Supes fighting the weapons systems of the super computer from III couldn’t be cobbled together to show the army trying to fight “bad” Super Man or something. For me when a movie sparks my imagination that’s a great sign. Thanks for this. Really awesome stuff. I will be checking out your other stuff for sure!

Since there are a largenumber of reviews, that are very detailed, I doubt that I can contribute anything else to the reviews of this edit.
Nonetheless, I will try. It is important to note, I have never watched any of the Superman movies beyond Superman II. I just watched “Superman:The Movie” (the four disc special edition) and “Superman II” (the richard donner cut) about two months ago. This is the first time I had watched either of these movies since I was 7 years old and they were in the theater. Even as a 7 year old, these movies were a big disappointment to me – too many “UGH” moments, even then.
So, any viewing of any of these movies is like watching them for the first time.
I liked this edit. First, the technical stuff. 5/5 for video and audio quality. A few peopple have mentioned the basic DVD menu and lack of “extras”, I personally don’t care. A fanedit is ALWAYS about the movie for me. Even on stor bought blu-ray/dvd movies, I watch the “extars” once and rarely again.
Adigitalman doesn’t disappoint. He takes two these two movies and weaves them into a coherent movie. having never watched III or IV, I have no idea what parts belong to which movie and his edit is so well done, I can’t tell you by watching this.. I can definitely tell why I have never watchedthe originals, these movies are just not thta good. I would definitely say this edit is absolutely worth the D/L time. I didn’t feel like I had completely wasted my time.
For me, ADigitalman is largely becoming my editor of choice.

I continue to be impressed by the tech skills of the folks on this site. Although this particular project was a real mixed bag — and not solely b/c of the source material.
Based on ADigitalMan’s description, I had thought what we were going to see was a story where Lex’s use of Superman’s DNA (S IV) created — rather than a pathetic Nuclear Man — an evil Superman clone. And I’d expected the Nasty Superman of S III was going to be cleverly edited in as said clone, rather than how he was used in the original S III. In the end — by simply removing the shot where Clark walks out Nasty of Superman’s body — we’d have the real Clark battle Lex’s Super-clone in the junkyard (a scene which still stands up btw).
The setup for “Redeemed” is strong, re-intro’ing Lois, Jimmy and bringing us to Smallville. Things go awry however when we get to Lex’s escape (although it’s used well) and Paris. Not only is there a huge shift in style — the first two films are lensed differently and may even have a different film stock — but Lester’s Paris/hydrogen bomb is being utilized by DigitalMan to serve as an intro into a nuclear disarmament story, and it doesn’t quite work.
Of course, I could have overlooked this, but then the awkwardness is compounded by a jump cut to a classroom scene from S IV–where too much forced exposition (the fault of the original filmmakers) just underscores the fact that “Redeemed” was cobbled together. Not long after this, Superman speaks before the U.N. and, for no good reason at all, we’ve an odd shot of the camera zooming away from Earth. (I do not recall if that’s how it is in the original. I gave my DVDs of III & IV away to my nephew quite some time ago), then we get another odd shift to Lex’s scheme to make money. A scheme which, even in the original S IV film, starts out to simply look like a “revenge against Superman by creating a duplicate of him” scheme then awkwardly becomes a money-making scheme.
Honestly, I don’t know how we could avoid Lex’s money scheme considering the source material.
The way in which Nasty Superman from S III is used is hardly necessary–it doesn’t further the story and it ultimately adds nothing to the main character. It’s merely used as a quick aside, with no real resolution, during an expanded fight scene between Supes and Nuclear Man.
There’s also the Lois-is-on-vacation sub-plot. She goes on vacation, then is pulled from vacation for the Paris story, then she’s back from vacation. It’s choppy and no real arc here for her. Not that our FanEditor had much to work with on that front.
Overall, the editing is sharp. Every so often the new music is distracting, but not terribly so. For instance, Lex’s escape didn’t need scoring, and that score seems very much out of place.
All in all, I think there’s a twinkle of a brilliant idea in here by bridging the two movies, but, if it’s possible, removing Nuclear Man entirely, as was done with Richard Pryor’s Gus character, is what I think would make this a much stronger concept…and would truly “Redeem” these Superman movies.
Oh, and through no fault of ADigitalMan’s, I’m still scratching my head trying to figure out why Superman didn’t, at first site, immediately grab Luthor and take him back to prison since he, you know, had ESCAPED.
I look forward to other edits from ADigitalMan…existing and otherwise.
