Star Wars – The Fall Of The Republic

FallOTR
by Blankfist
Watch the prequels united to one movie, to one saga. This is the yet darkest take on the rise of Darth Vader. Gigantic.

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original:
This is a much darker take on the rise of Darth Vader and the Fall of the Jedi Republic. Lots and lots of unnecessary scenes were cut to solely focus on what really matters: how did the dark side take over?

  1. I thought I posted a comment already, but I guess it didn’t go through. Anyhooo… I’ve uploaded a higher-res version of this DVD on myspleen, so I guess there really isn’t reason for this lower-res verion anymore. The higher-res version is pretty stunning. It’s meant for a dual layered DVD, so it looks and sounds amazing.

I love all the new artwork. Looks amazing! I’ve also added DVD cover art and disc label artwork with the new version. It looks pretty cool, I think. I’m not sure I could get my hands on super high-res files, though, so I had to do the best I could.

  2. Wow… just wow. I don’t even know where to begin with this. First of all I am a fan of the ADigitalMan edits, and I realize that when making edits you do have to have some abrupt cuts and even combine scenes sometimes. But that was just awful. The Watto scene was absolutely disgraceful, especially since the prologue said that the Jedi bought Anakin from Jabba the Hutt. The fact that Darth Maul was on the trade federation ship, yet it was SUNNY behind him when you first see him just made me want to laugh or cry, I’m not sure which. The fact that Anakin “mysteriously” loses his hand without any explanation whatsoever was the stupidest thing I’ve seen in a long time, also cutting out how Bobba Fett came about was no good either I think. I actually stopped watching after Anakin killed Dooku, because I was so disgusted…

One thing I will say, it is admirable that you tried to do this, but trying to fit all three movies into one did not work at all, maybe you should have went for two 2 hour movies. But one thing you definitely need to work on is intercutting different scenes with each other, it is totally noticeable and makes it very jumpy.

  3. I thought that this was a valiant effort with a few drawbacks. There were some very unique transitions here, and things were repositioned to retell the story in a new interesting way. I thought that this was a great effort at trying to tell the story in one clip. I would definitely recommend this edit to star wars fans, especially those that would like to enjoy the prequels in one shot.

There were problems with this edit though (as in all films and edits). First, I feel that Episode 1 was cut way too much. I feel like there were important pieces that were completely ignored. Additionally the fight scene with Maul was almost ruined for me. This piece is very climactic in the original movie, and is one of my favorite Star Wars moments. That said it was repositioned in a way that was very unsatisfying.

On a good note, I felt that the transition between episodes 2 and 3 were spectacular. i loved how this flowed together.

For image quality, I was rather disappointed. This was supposed to be a “higher-res version” that “is pretty stunning” and “looks and sounds amazing”. This is far from the case. The DL disc movie was very grainy and showed much pixelation. I was disappointed with this after all of the hype.

To sum things up, I thought that this was a good edit. It has its flaws, but is definitely worth a watch

  4. I just watched this and I think it was great. There was the problem with the hand of course, as it is never explained how Anakin has a metal hand, but other then that I didn’t catch any serious loop holes. I’m not a big Star wars fan, so I wouldn’t notice all the subtle errors anyways.
Most of the cuts were nicely done, except maybe three of them that weren’t that great. I watched the one layer version and the picture quality wasn’t that great, every time there were large areas of black, the picture was pixalated.
All in all, it was the best effort I have seen so far of re-editing the prequels. I’ll give it a 4/5.

  5. OK, let’s be honest, most of us who are Star Wars fans grew up with the original trilogy (IV-VI) and when the prequels came out they were quite the let down. Blankfist had a vision that myself and many other fans share about the story-lines in the prequels. Without giving much away in spoilers, I will say this: I loved the way that Blankfist totally changed up Episode I by repositioning scenes to tell a different tale. Once again, most of us fans sit through the prequels and get fed up with Jar Jar, terrible acting, and wait for something good (ACTION!) to happen. Blankfist has removed unneeded sub-plots and has put the focus back to where it belongs! The prequels should have been the story of the rise of Anakin Skywalker and the fall of the Galactic Republic into an empire. However, when we view the original Lucas prequels, additional garbage is added, several unneeded storylines, and what is truly important gets somewhat lost. By breaking down what is important, Blankfist has turned garbage into a compact, watchable film that is around 3 hours. Although other reviewers did not care for some of the repositioning of certain scenes, it works for me and for continuity throughout the combined film. The film follows the growth of Anakin from slave boy to Jedi, and then to his tragic demise as Vader. We also see Palpatine play the politics to achieve absolute power as emperor. Although Episode I is VERY SHORT, the most important plot points are what is included, and as I said, Blankfist’s repositions tell a bit of a different tail than what Lucas did, but that is the Editor’s right in a fan edit, correct? One of the things I was most pleased with was the careful edits in Episode II. Blankfist has done some wonderful edits to make Hayden Christansen appear to be a young bad-ass that is able to sweep Natalie Portman off her feet, rather than being a young bumbling fool. I espeicially liked the removal of scenes in which Padme sort of rejects Anakin. The edits make the love story actually work! There is not much action in the Episode II scenes, as the focus is on the love story, BUT THIS IS NEEDED for the overall tale! As a previous review said, the transition from II to III works swimmingly as the republic goes to war. The scene in which Anakin slices up Dooku is changed. Palpatine is completely removed from this scene altogether. The first time I watched the edit I liked it, but looking back, this is the only problem I had with the entire film. I like the original scene better, because it showed Palpatine “pushing” Anakin ever so closer to the dark side. As for the rest of the Episode III, things move FAST! This may be a problem for some viewers, but for me it works. I will be honest, when I want to relax and watch some Star Wars, I feel an obligation to start from the beginning, which can be a bore at times with the original prequels. Some were upset about the issue with how Anakin lost his hand, as you see the mechanized robot hand when he has been defeated by Kenobi. This could have been fixed by simply keeping the scene in from Episode II. He has been fighting in the Clone Wars; we can assume he faced some tough combat… This edit gives me everything I want in terms of plot, action, and creative edits to condense what really matters to the overall storyline: THE TRAGEDY OF ANAKIN SKYWALKER and the FALL OF THE REPUBLIC! As far as picture quality and sound go, I only had issues with the picture quality in the scenes from Episode I, some were pixely and looked weak, but the rest of the film was high quality. The sound was very good as well! All in all, this is exactly what I was hoping for when I saw it was a I – III combo! Thank you Blankfist for your valiant effort in this edit!
