They appear sometimes a full second before the dialogue, and when characters are talking back and forth it's hard to keep up or know which character is saying what. The French are wordy enough without the subtitles not matching the audio. As an avid watcher of foreign films, I can say that the timing of subtitles is as important as the translation. Proper subtitles should never appear before you hear the spoken words. They should appear about 200 milliseconds AFTER the dialogue begins and remain on the screen between 500 ms and 1 sec after it ends (more for longer sentences). It's a shame, because this edit sounds great, but the subtitles make it near-impossible to watch. I haven’t finished this movie because the subtitles are a real problem.
