  1. It has been a while since I have seen the original film. I picked up a copy of it to compare the cuts, but have yet to rewatch the original. I think that lewis has achieved his goal here in making the movie focused on the invasion. We all know that this was not a great movie to begin with, but it is now more enjoyable, or at least more tolerable. Most of the cheese has been successfully cut out. There were a couple one-liners that I would have still chopped off, but all in all very well done. Without watching the original recently, the edits were unnoticeable to me, so the editing was well done imo.

video quality was very clear and not milky at all, and the audio seemed well mixed too. I am not a fan of the score for this film and would have like to seen (or rather heard) a change here, but that was not the intent of this edit.

well done. i highly recommend this for some light enjoyable sci-fi action, and I look forward to more great edits by lewis886 in the future!!

  4. I just got around to watching this tonight. I have never seen the original movie so I don’t know how it compares. What I can say is that this was a fairly enjoyable movie and I did not feel as if it were missing anything except for one thing. A small scene foreshadowing the kiss between the main character and the female pilot at the end would have not been out of place. I don’t know if such a scene exists but from the list of cuts above, it seems a lot was cut and something useful could probably have been found. However, that small defect, if it is one, does not detract at all from the overall viewing of the film. From the description of what was cut, I think the editor did a very good job. This feels like a war movie, not a teen romance, and I appreciate that. The pace was good and the story made sense. What more could you ask for?

Technically, I thought it was excellent. The picture was a bit dark but I’m sure this was how the original was shot, not a product of the edit. Other than the darkness, the picture was good as was the audio. The edits were not noticable by me. I also liked the DVD authoring.

  5. I just watched this and I have to say this was great. I always loved the games and did rather enjoy the original movie’s potential. I thought you brought out what was lacking and what Chris Roberts may have wanted. The edit was marvelous except for one section when Blair jumps to Earth, I thought the cut was a little sloppy and the music, silence, and music didnt quite gel, you could definitely tell there was an edit there. I would liked that to have been better.

However on that note, this will go on my shelf as a compliment to the games and original movie. 7 of 10.

    Thanks.

  6. Just saw this edit and to be honest it came across as rather bland. Not a lot of drama left in the film. I got the sense that it was more like a “series of fortunate events” rather than a compelling war movie.

Granted the source material was not all that forgiving to an edit, but maybe a bit more thought into how to integrate existing story lines should have been considered. The cheese was gone, which is a good and a bad thing, Mathew Lillard delivers his lines so well, you kind of miss a few. I have to agree that the lack of any romantic indications between Blair and Devereaux made the final kiss a really dumb moment and totally out of context with the film as we saw it.

The story was tighter and a bit more focused, however it was a few cuts shy of a theatrical documentary and that’s not really a good thing.

Technically, I had no real issues, the work was outstanding. Creatively, the editing decisions needed more work, IMHO.

Unfortunately the editor couldn’t fix the fact that Devereaux was played by an Englishwoman and not a French woman. Taggart was played by a Frenchman when the name is Welsh and the games had an English actor in the role. The Kilrathi were very poorly made puppets that made the Hobbs character in WC3 (a guy in a cat suit) look like ILM work!

Unfortunately the film was ahead of its time with the wrong script to work with. With a better story and SFX, the film could have been quite amazing. The WC universe is quite well put together.
