INTENTION & EDITING DETAILS:
Batman Forever is a great movie, but there are things in it that definitely ruin the experience. Tim Burton’s absence wasn’t the problem.

Imagine seeing Bruce suffering from sadness, guilt and loads of other psychological problems. Then he turns around and shows us his ass. It just doesn’t work for me. Two face was another problem; he’s supposed to be brain damaged not retarded. Why is he acting like the joker? I also muted the colors to the point where some scenes look black and white with color mixed in. As for Chase and Bruce. Their relationship is pointless and they
both know this deep down. The new ending emphasizes this. The action sequences were also a little hokey so I recut those as well. I didn’t try to make this into a Tim Burton film by adding Elfman’s scores from the 1st two films.  Instead I kept Goldenthal’s score and added some more of his work. The new music is taken from Final Fantasy: TSW and Alien 3. I didn’t have much of a problem with the Riddler. Jim Carrey is a comedic god.

CUTLIST

* New opening credit sequence (Red Forever logo) using Arkham deleted
scene.

* No suiting up sequence. From the title to a zooming batmobile.

* Two Face’s cackling and joking cut down to a minimum.

* Security guard doesn’t whine along to Goldentthal’s music score. Still
whines though.

* Colors have been slightly muted.

* More Elliot Goldenthal music added.

* Chase isn’t a filthy whore here. Just a whore. She does not grab
Batman’s nipples.

* Gordon doesn’t say “definitely suicide”, which made him look like an
idiot.

* Dick’s family death scene has new music that drowns out the sound.
For dramatic effect.

* Dick’s pain deleted scene added and altered.

* Dick talking to the 4 R&B girls has been cut

* Batman’s leap over machine guns at the Ritz Gotham is seen in two
angles now.
one taken from the trailer.

* News report explaining Two Face’s origin has been shortened. It felt
forced.

* Batman bashing News report deleted scene added and altered.

* “Go to her” and “I’ve never been in love before” lines removed.

* Riddler’s tiny bombs explode on contact. No baseball gag.

* Giant bat and red book revelation deleted scene added and altered, of
course.
Music and sound f/x.

* Batman’s butt has been cut.

* Batman doesn’t give Gordon a thumbs up while in the Batwing.

* Too many cuts to count. Two pointless action sequences removed.

* The villains don’t play Battleship as Batman and Robin head for their
hideout.

* “It never ends” deleted scene added to the end.

* Running hero silhouettes cut from the end.

  1. Batman Forever is one of the best Batman movies, a finanical success at the box office, contained definitive performances from Carrey and Kilmer as a more beleivable and conflicted Batman, and Chris O’Donnel as a vengeful, aggresive, wise guy Dick Grayson whom a tormented Bruce must try to fend from straying to the path he has taken.

Batman Forever however, has often found itself more chastised than acclaimed. Fans are still sour over director Joel Schumacher allowing the camp to dominate aspects of this film, the fact that Tommy Lee Jones forsakes much of Two-Face’s duality and potential to play The Joker didnt help much either.

But perhaps the biggest criticicm, was that several scenes intergral to the story, scenes that were seen in the trailers, commercials, and even the comic and novel adaptations, were CUT from the film. This includes everything that has been restored here. Courtesy of the deleted scenes section of the two-disc Batman Forever Special Edition, these scenes have now been restored, complete with intense, beutifully added scores that serve to highlight the significance and darkness of these scenes. Two-Face’s rant is also slightly cut from the opening of the bank vault scene, barring his more subtle performance as the contemplative Harvey at the beggining.

The Bat-Butt transformation is gone, in its place is the gripping opening scene at Arkam Asylum, where Harvey escapes, followed by the now red-titled Batman Forever screen, then the Batmobile racing out of the Batcave. The film REALLY shines however, when you watch the restored scenes with the music undertoning the performances

Once you watch this movie, you will understand Batman Forever on a much deeper level than before, whilst you may still think Carrey’s performance, retained here for the most part, is too camp, or Two-Face remains as less inspired by his source material, it does not take away from a very real, very different Batman story that adds gravitas to the potential of the character in cinema. Tim Burton’s Batman has Batman’s soul, THIS had Batman’s heart.

    Special Features:

    - A professionally edited trailer that, in comparison to most other fanedits, actually tries to look like a trailer you’d see in a THEATRE

    - A small montage of deleted scenes, I’ll spare you the revelation of what happens at its conclusion, as it’s far too funny to spoil.

  2. Excellent edit. Color is a bit too desaturated in some spots, but this edit does a marvelous job of it’s stated intentions … it takes what was bad out of a pretty good Batman film, and adds back in what it was sorely missing. The whole thing feels tight and integrally a part of the 90s Bat-franchise. Bravo!

  3. What can I say? Really, really excellent job of making Batman Forever mean something. I originally liked the film, but by Batman and Robin, I was cringing. After Nolan’s new Batman, coming back to this film – you feel cheated.

What you’ve done though is exactly what the film needed – removed the silly campy, bits and added all the introspective, reflective character development deleted scenes(which I’d never seen before!). We now understand WHY Batman retires, WHY he resumes again and HOW he resolves the personal issues.

It feels darker and the actual look of the film seems to be grainier. I absolutely love the ending. That had it come off very dark. There’s only one scene in the whole film that I would love to see changed. It’s when we first go to Edward Nygma’s apartment and some silly song starts playing – the camera work actually implies that a darker score was going to be used – but it appears that they changed it to make it more fun.

    Anyway. Well done.

  4. A huge improvement over the original. This one kept my interest throughout, the humor didn’t feel forced, and it was much darker. Bravo on a job well-done! I was surprised to find Jim Carrey’s performance improved in this one. I only wish something could be done about Tommy Lee Jones. Usually an actor I really like but he was so miscast in this it isn’t funny.

For the first time, I can actually say I like Kilmer as Batman, and I don’t find Robin annoying and he comes off much more sympathetic.

For making this watchable, and making me *like* Batman Forever (which up until now, I didn’t) a 5 out of 5

  5. Took me a long time to slowly download the RAR files, and when it came down to playing the DVD… Totally worth it! I especially love the colours and contrast that gives it an almost noir look. From the bits you put it to the bits you chopped out, this was a fantastic improvement to a big-budget blockbuster! ***** Five Stars!
The only problem is, to legally keep this version, I can’t throw the original (which I won’t watch voluntarily again) in the garbage!

  6. Excellent work indeed. Too bad there’s nothing you could do about the deleted scenes’ unpolished look. Of course, some silly stuff remains, such as Tommy Lee Jones’ over-the-top performance and the overabundance of neon, but hey, it adds to the movie’s schizophrenic feeling: part dark and serious, part campy and over-the-top. Also, very good use of Alien 3’s soundtrack!

On the other hand, here are some thoughts on how you could improve your edit :

    - The whole scene where Chase meets Batman on the top of the police station is simply awkward and doesn’t add anything to the movie. Do we really need to see her acting like a whore to understand her attraction to Batman? The Dark Knight edit has come up with an interesting alternative, by having the Wayne Enterprises scene taking place right BEFORE Two-Face’s introduction at the bank heist.
    - Some of Jim Carrey’s antics are funny, but sometimes less is more;
    - Robin could use less screen time: O’Donnell is good as Dick Grayson, but Robin’s introduction as Batman’s partner is somewhat contrived. For example having him captured by Two-Face’s frogmen instead of being rescued by Batman would be a good start; his fight with Two-Face on the top of the island is just cliché and pointless (what was Two-Face doing alone out there anyway?);

And finally, you should create a torrent in order to share this wonderful edit! Having to download 42 .rar parts on Rapidshare is extremely tedious.

  7. as with any fanedit that incorporates deleted or unfinished scenes, some of the quality does suffer a bit. however, as this is unavoidable i don’t really include that in a rating unless it is unnecessarily added.

i can happily say that this is a great fanedit and a 4/5 from me. i really enjoyed the excised silliness and unnecessary elements and what was added helps a great deal. the image overall DID seem degraded and was a bit distracting.

    entertainment 5/5
    fanediting 5/5
    video 4/5
    audio 5/5
    original 3/5?

  8. This was really awesome. Working the deleted subplots back in add so much to the story and really make you appreciate what Forever could have/should have been. I had seen the deleted scenes before, on the special edition DVD, and I really appreciate how much you were able to clean them up, add better music and sound effects to them and make them feel more like part of the movie. There is still a noticeable difference in the picture quality but it is not that bad.

I also liked how you desaturated some of the bright neon colors. I didn’t realize just how glaring they were until I saw how much better it looks toned down.

I think the only thing that you didn’t cut that I really wish you would have was Two-Face repeatedly flipping his coin at Wayne Manor. I always hated that part. When he flips the coin he should abide by what it says and not keep flipping it to get a desired outcome, otherwise what is the point? I wonder if you could cut out the first couple of coin flips, and just include the one where he gets the scarred side and then tries to shoot Bruce….. make it look like he was just lying in wait before he ultimately decided to flip the coin.

Other than that, not much to add that hasn’t already been said. Nice job!!

  9. A very interesting edit, and one that definitely improves a campy chapter in the Batman mythos. (Not that camp is all but, but the 60’s Batman had its place in time. The 90’s Batman…not quite as much.) The colour de-saturation is a nice touch, and the new opening is so much better than the Bat Ass we were originally given.

I think some of the silliness could still have been trimmed: the captive guard at the bank, for example. Did we really need the “Ooohh noo, it’s acid!” line? Their shocked looks down cutting immediately to his glasses falling off would have sufficed. And his melting shoes line…again, we can SEE it happening. And the Whore Chase scene, I think, could have been judiciously cut in spots.

Jim Carrey I always have a soft spot for, so to me, his silliness in the movie works. After all, he’s The Riddler; the villain has always been a little crazy. Maybe it’s a bit too much, but when you ask Jim Carrey to take the role…..

Tommy Lee Jones, however, was horribly, terribly miscast, and even as a fourteen year old seeing it for the first time, I knew it. It’s almost painful to see sometimes, even in a cut that adds some of the depth the actor sacrificed. Especially now, after seeing The Dark Knight’s take on the character, it’s a shame to see. Thankfully, the garish pink makeup and costume has been toned down in this edit.

Some of the overall colour does suffer from too much de-saturation, but in an fan edit emulating Burton’s style, it’s not a bad thing. Overall, a great attempt to salvage a movie that wasn’t quite as terrible as its successor, but was still quite painful.

  10. Impressive edit. As others have said, it could still stand a few more cuts (such as the whiny security guard), but overall, nicely done! There’s still some camp, but the darker tones stand out, especially with the deleted scenes added. This is definitely THE version to watch. I’ll give it 8/10.
