  4. Neo has been restored as the only One… ever.
  5. The Oracle isn’t in hiding.
  6. Gloria Foster partially restored to explain her change of appearence.
  7. To remove annoying or rambling dialog: Less Locke. Less Kid. Less Merovinian rambling. Less home life with Link. Less Councilor Hamann.
  8. Merovingian doesn’t extol the virtues of the French (this was the only time in any of the 3 films that a real geographic location is named. Oops.)
  9. Neo isn’t worshipped as a god.
  10. Trainman plot thread removed.
  11. Machines do not talk of love.
  12. Action spread around better in Matrix 3 to prevent sensory overload.
  13. Neo doesn’t have magical powers in the Real World (more Zatoichi less Mua’dib).
  14. No Rave in Matrix 2.
  15. No extended introduction to the soon to be dead goons.
  16. Extended and recut Trinity’s flight. (Different riff on this than DeZionized. But props to the CBB group for blazing the trail.)
  17. Last Exile Plot thread removed.
  18. Neo doesn’t zap squids or faint.
  19. Sati and family removed.
  20. Morpheus – Locke – Nioble love triangle removed.
  21. Maggie (and a few others) now survive.
  22. No infantry plot line (send in the Mechs!) to remove gritty war film feel.
  23. Super Brawl relocated.
  24. End of war celebration added/relocated.

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original:

Ok, I LOVE the first Matrix. I was a bit of a fan of Keanu (whoa), and I got mild enjoyment out of Johnny Mnemonic (I am a big fan of William Gibson). When I first saw the film advertised I couldn’t believe someone was stupid enough to let Keanu near another CyberPunk film. I did drool at the prospect though. Opening day I took the day off and went to see it. I then saw it again that evening with a friend. And again a third time later that weekend with my sister. This is in fact the only time I have seen a first run movie 3 times in the theater.

Matrix 2 and 3. How could I not like the idea? The second one was weak. They even tried embarrassingly to rip off the theme of The Empire Strikes Back for the ending. The Architect is his father; Neo-Solo is frozen in carbonite; Trinity is his sister. (j/k) Ok, sophomore slump. The third, man that’s gotta rock right? #2 was just the wind up to the main event…
I nearly chewed my leg off to escape the theater while I was watching it. I couldn’t believe the Wachowski’s had gotten so lost from the original film. I tried to wipe the whole experience from my mind.

BUT after watching the really nice things the CBB Group did with the DeZionized Matrix I was struck with the realization that the movies may not be as irretrievable as I originally believed. To get the best film though would require complete disregard for the material and the filmmakers. A cut so daring that some would call it impossible, genius or even daft. So this has been gestating for over a year. Nine drafts of the script and a lot of on-the-fly changes, a lots of false starts and versions, but it is done.

  1. I remember downloading and watching this one a long time ago. A man, I was shocked, but in a great way. I had not seen such a daring fanedit of the Matrix, flipping around some much scenes and the order of those scenes. I was really surprised and this edit learned me to think more outside the box (or in this case, the existing official movie). Great fanedit!!

  2. These hacked edits are definitely the best matrix edits around. Technically many of the cuts were noticeable but it’s totally worth it because the end result is a much more enjoyable experience. It felt strange that I was finally watching worthy sequels to the original, with that original matrix feel in them. I suppose there was just too much to tolerate in the original cuts to really enjoy them.

    In reloaded the beginning and the end were the most noticeable differences. I am very thankful for those changes. Other than those there were some fixes and trims. For the first time I felt like I completely understood everything the architect was talking about.

    Revolutions was totally reworked. The redistributed action sequences felt much better this way. The attack on Zion was heavily trimmed which was great. All annoyances in the plot, including the new oracle and the confusingly bad ending were fixed. For the first time I felt satisfied about the whole saga when the credits rolled in. It left me wanting more.

    I think all the right cuts were made, I woudn’t change a thing there. I just wish that some of the cuts were technically less noticeable. If a revised version is ever going to be made I hope it will be in HD.

  3. A radically altered and often very successful edit.

    I’m glad I gave Matrix Reloaded one more go. I hated the original and didn’t much like other fanedits but this one really works for me. It’s the product of an enormous amount of thought and has turned a dodgy, almost unbearable movie into a decent one indeed. With an improved plot and better storytelling I was able for the first time to sit back and really appreciate the film’s quite magnificent art direction and stunt work, too, because this Hacked edit relies less on visuals and mayhem – less is more, if you get what I mean.

    8 out of 10. Nice work. :)

  4. this replaced the original dvds on my shelf.

    i love the new approach and the totally different p.o.v. … thanks for this.

    i give it the highest rating, since i felt that the other fanedits that dealt with the matrix-sequels
    tried really hard to improve the films, but did not succed in altering the extreme crappy story.

    again: thanks a lot. i never thought i would like the sequels. now they are legit to
    me and i am showing them to everybody interested in the matrix (and who isn’t).

  5. The Hacked edits are my favorite of all the Matrix edits, by a country mile. Reloaded Hacked is exactly what I was looking for in a Reloaded edit – some minor editing to make things flow better, but nothing too drastic. This is my go-to version.

  6. This worked better than Hacked Revolutions, but still had no smooth flow to it. The idea behind it is so interesting though that I as a Matrix fan loved it entirely and could very well forgive the inconsistencies.

    I have never really enjoyed the matrix sequels – although this edit makes this movie more watchable – to me the movie itself is just not good.

  8. Creative edit for Reloaded & Revolutions. Lots of interesting ideas of how to re-work it, and the technical quality is good except for a couple bad cuts in Revolutions from what I can remember. This is not how I ultimately imagine the perfect Matrix edit looking. There are many creative but questionable choices made here, That being said, my hat goes off to DoctorM. This is a very worthy and creative fan edit.

  9. From a purely technical standpoint, this is a very well done fanedit, but to me it doesn’t really do anything to improve the movie or change the tone of it in any significant way. I’m actually one of those rare people who liked this movie in its original form, but I’ll admit it’s not without its flaws. This fanedit, however, does nothing to change anything I had a problem with and takes out stuff that really didn’t bug me.

    Still, like I said, technically this is very well done and if you didn’t like some of Reloaded’s plot points, I’m sure you’ll find this an improvemenr. It just didn’t work for me.
