“This special reedit of “DUNE” was prepared by us at Fanfiltration to satisfy fans whom have never been truly happy with “DUNE” in neither its truncated 1984 theatrical version, nor the version of the David Lynch film prepared

The film is presented in a “Pan & Scan” format; as no widescreen footage of the extended cut scenes is available at the current time of this reedit production.
For this fan-created reedit of “DUNE”, every attempt has been made to enhance grainy cutting-room-floor scenes that had been haphazardly inserted into the “Allen Smithee” television version. Fanfiltration’s computer-generated effects
have been added to correct the missing “blue within blue eyes” that had been left unfinished in the Smithee version. We also applied color correction to make the clips match. These clips have been incorporated to allude to the dimension
of the characters and plotlines in Frank Herbert’s “DUNE”.

fanfiltration’s edit is awesome!
i think i like this edit more – i’ve definitely seen it a lot more (as it was out long before ADM’s edit)
really it only has a few negatives. it isn’t widescreen, it doesn’t use the EE edition DVD as source, and it doesn’t benefit from having the deleted scenes to choose from. otherwise – it is a better edit than ADM’s, imho.
i would compare them as this:
* ADM’s is kinda a composite (theatrical as base + smithee scenes + new deleted scenes)
* Fanfiltration’s is a true fanedit (recreating the smithee version and edited)
for story i vote Fanfiltration
for awesome viewing experience i vote ADM

From Oldbiff85,
I truely was amazed at this edition. After years and years of tinkering with this movie myself, finally someone edits a version that is worthly and somewhat faithful to Mr. Lynches’ vision. I give this edit a FIVE STAR *****
This is Fanfiltration crowning achievment thus far. A true pleasure in a viewing expierence.

i’m just going to add to boon’s quote of myself above (thanks boon! stealing all my thunder!
)
this is a fantastic edit. really one of my favorites and probably the tipping point of diving into the fanedit world for me. like oldbiff85 said above this IS a “crowning achievement” and “a true pleasure” – couldn’t say it better myself, so i’ll just steal from you, lol.
the end result here is truely larger than the sum of its parts and i give this a solid 5/5. required viewing.
entertainment 5/5
video 3.5/5
audio 3.5/5
fanediting 5/5
original 4/5 and 4/5 (original AND smithee versions)
fanedit 5/5
