Star Wars Episode 2: Army of the Republic

a TRUE FANEDIT by Horace

The sequel to Horace’s Star Wars Episode 1: Master & Apprentice. With almost all Alien languages created anew and plenty of movie improving cuts throughout the movie, this is Star Wars II more in the true spirit of the original movies.

INTENTION & EDITING DETAILS:

New Crawl The prequel trilogy story is much more complicated than the original trilogy story, and I never thought that the prequel trilogy crawls did enough to bridge the gaps between movies. This new crawl fills in the events that took place between Master and Apprentice (episode 1) and Army of the Republic, and it also goes into greater detail regarding the events that are currently taking place. This crawl is longer, more complicated, and it goes by quicker, so read fast.
New languages and dialogue Just like in Master and Apprentice, Jar Jar and the Neimoidians have been given new languages, and subtitles have been written to replace what was awful and/or annoying dialogue. This was done by using the Spanish audio track (for Jar Jar and the Gungans) and the French audio track (for the Neimoidians). These alternate tracks were then reversed to produce an alien language. For this edit the German audio track was used for the Kaminoans. This was done to fix a plot point rather than replace bad dialogue. The reversed English, Spanish, and French tracks were used for the speech by the Techno Union representative. The Analysis droids is the reversed English track. The Geonosian leader has also been given new subtitles.
The DVD contains a commentary.

Deleted Scenes added

  • Padmes Senate speech, Jedi analysis droids, Obi Wan and Mace Windus conversation in hangar, Padmes house on Naboo, Dooku trying to get Senatoe Amidala to join the separatists, Trial of Anakin and Padme on Geonosis.

Scenes Removed

  • 1. Obi Wan and Dex in the diner
  • 2. Padme and Anakins flight to Naboo
  • 3. Yoda, Obi Wan, and the Younglings
  • 4. Padme and Anakin in the field by the waterfall
  • 5. Padme and Anakin by the fireplace
  • 6. Padmes meeting with the current Queen of Naboo
  • New lightsaber colors I was always fine with the lightsaber rule. Jedi have blue or green blades, and the Sith have red blades. Then they gave Mace Windu a purple one. So it seems to me that all Jedi Masters should have their own unique blades, and the blue and green are the standard issue sabers that they give out at the Jedi Temple. Once one achieves the rank of Master he or she constructs their big badass blade. The Sith still use exclusively red blades.
  • Cuts/Changes (These are just some of the larger ones)
  • 1. Captain Typhos line, Iguess I was wrong, there was no danger after all has been cut because while hes talking it becomes obvious the the person standing next to him is Padme with a helmet on. This undercuts the intended shock of seeing the Senator killed, and the intended relief at the revelation that the real Senator is still alive.
  • 2. Yoda no longer has warm feelings in his heart upon seeing Padme. Not only is it a poorly written line, but who cares about Yodas feelings. I want him to be the wise old Jedi, not a dude who talks about his feelings.
  • 3. No Obi Wan/Anakin conversation in the elevator. The elevator sequence has been reduced to a quick shot that only serves to establish who is riding in the elevator. That conversation always bothered me for this reason, Anakin wouldnt have these deep, intense residual feelings about Padme. They met for a brief period over a decade ago when he was a little boy. He would probably barely remember her, and if he did it wouldnt be in a romantic way.
  • 4. The initial meeting between Padme and Anakin is different. Now when they meet Anakin is seeing her the way a young man sees a woman, so his So have you, grown more beautiful I mean line comes off like the kind of awkward pick-up line that a man his age would use. She laughs it off, but it has been established that he now sees her as a hot piece of ass, and not as a boyhood friend.
  • 5. The power coupling portion of the Zam chase has been removed because it was dumb.
  • 6. Any reference to Zam being a changeling has been removed. When Zam is killed with the toxic dart, the change in her appearance is attributed to the affect of the toxin instead of her ability to change into a lizard.
  • 7. The conversation between Padme and Anakin in Padmes apartment has been shortened. All of Anakins complaining about Obi Wan has been removed.
  • 8. The Syfo Dyas plot point has been removed. It is now Dooku who ordered the clone army. This indicates that Dooku was recruited by Darth Sidiuos immediately after Darth Mauls death. As Darth Sidiuos new apprentice he was told to order this clone army, leave the Jedi order, and start a separatist movement. There is no need Dooku to use Syfo Dyas as cover for his actions, its confusing and unnecessary.
  • 9. Padme doesnt pull away when she and Anakin kiss. When this is coupled with the shot of her walking out of the bedroom the next morning it implies a sexual relationship. This does more to establish a bond between Anakin and Padme than any of the bad dialogue in the theatrical cut.
  • 10. During the separatists meeting on Geonosis the Techno Union representative tells the rest of the members the plan for unifying all of their droid armies under one command. This introduces General Grievous. Although he is never seen in this edit, he is introduced as a character, and his role is explained. It always struck me as odd that they would introduce a pretty major character by way of a cartoon that nobody watched.
  • 11. The garage sequence at the moisture farm after Anakin has returned with his mothers body ends with Anakin saying that he killed all the sandpeople. He no longer whines about his decision. This makes it clear that when angered he has no problem with killing.
  • 12. Artoo and C3PO stay on the ship when on Geonosis. This means that Artoo no longer flies, and C3PO isnt involved in the Jedi Battle.
  • 13. The Jedi Battle sequence has been reworked a little bit.
  • 14. Any reference to Dookus master has been removed. His alliance with Darth Sidious should only be revealed at the end. Plus, if all these planety governments and industrial conglomerates knew that Dooku was answering to someone else it seems like they might like to speak with the person in charge before seceding from the Republic and casting their fortune in with some upstart government.
  • 15. The lightsaber battle between Anakin and Dooku has been trimmed up some because there were places where it was obvious that they were just swinging the blades around over their heads, and it was edited to look like they were fighting.
  • 16. Miscellaneous cuts were made throughout the movie to remove bad dialogue.

  1. some interesting choices were made here, fairly well done, but poor re-done lightsabers really ruined it. why bother? the lightsabers weren’t the problem.
