TAGLINE: Less than met the eye.

INTENTION:
To remove most of the over the top, silly parts of the film, and to tighten up the story overall.

EDITING DETAILS:
Trimming small parts of Frenzy, the computer kids, and other extraneous human characters. Eliminating unnecessary dialogue/scenes.

CUTLIST:

  • Trimmed end of soldiers talking. no more “what’s your favorite day or whatever.
  • Cut Lennox talking to his wife and kid (fart joke).
  • Cut first time Epps looks at Blackout with binoculars, it’s a little ludicrous to think that he would sit there so long and look at him twice.
  • Cut out spitwad scene. Tightened up classroom scene.
  • Cut out second naval tool innuendo “joke/laughing/”stop sign”.
  • Cut “the compass makes a great gift for columbus day”.
  • Cut “the man in the green car”.
  • Cut Sam from “alright Mojo, i’ve got the car, now I need the girl” all the way to parents introduction. No more mirror/zit scene, ebay scene, mojo crack addict scene, etc.
  • Cut Mikaela’s boyfriend saying “allright guys, I know of a party, let’s head”
  • Cut Mikaela’s boyfriend saying “this is not a toy, these 22’s, i don’t want you grinding them”
  • Cut Mikaela’s boyfriend saying “you’ll call me.”
  • Cut large part of Mikaela and Sam talking in the car (big arms, etc.)
  • Cut Sam saying “I like to go fast” (creepy!).
  • Cut the President saying “yeah, could you wrangle me up some ding-dongs?”. Bush is dumb jokes are so 2004.
  • Cut some of Frenzy’s goofiness in elevator.
  • Cut “join the air force, bring the president ding dongs”….etc.
  • Cut Frenzy saying “uh-oh.”
  • Cut “should I be? Yes you should! etc….” These people are supposed to be “the top of their class”.
  • Cut some more Frenzy “wackiness, and Frenzy saying “Witwicky!”
  • Cut frenzy’s slapstick walk through tons of govt. agents.
  • Cut lots of Frenzy “wackiness” inside Barricade. Shortened Barricade sitting next to air force one…..waiting…..for….?
  • Cut Maggie saying “there is nothing on earth that complex (obvious).
  • Cut Maggie saying “what about an organism?…………..dna based computer, and I-I-I-I-I know that sounds crazy…”
  • Cut Sams dad saying “you know, little chihuaha”.
  • Cut some of the indian phone guy (trimmed pause at start, cut “i’m going to ask you to speak….). True story, but a little bit stretched out.
  • Cut “you got 10 back pockets! left check, left check left cheek!”
  • Cut second phone guy/”no i don’t want a premium package!”
  • Cut Epps saying “bring the rain” , shifted audio to cut mouth movement. I’ve talked to several people I know from the military, and they all told me the would never talk like that on the radio.
  • Trimmed (panasonic) memory card commercial. Made Maggie stealing the card a little less freaking obvious.
  • Cut Maggie saying “there’s only one hacker in the world who can decode this signal”. rearranged video to cut this scene.
  • Cut dance-dance revolution scene. More useless filler.
  • Cut Glen saying “let me work my magic.”
  • Cut Glen’s grandma saying “are you playin them video games again, making moment of door being kicked in more dramatic.
  • Cut news report in Sam’s room. too much info for the network news to have on the base attack.
  • Cut Sam calling Miles and telling him that “satan’s camaro is stalking him”. Ha-ha.
  • Cut out a few frames of Sam flipping his bike over. The editing was poor, and if you looked at it, they were repeating footage, making it seem like he was in the air too long.
  • Cut several seconds of Sam making small talk with Mikaela after falling off bike (while being chased by his car… that was driving itself…and had turned into a robot the previous night).
  • Cut several seconds of Sam’s hesitation to get the f#*k away from a car that just turned into a giant f@%king evil robot….
  • Trimmed “this must be a bad dream” along with a few frames of transition from Sam on roof of car to Barricade slamming his fist down.
  • Trimmed a few frames of Barricade’s two swings at Sam (he’s a lightning fast ninja when fighting Bumblebee, but a lumbering hulk when trying to swat a human?). I also trimmed it to again make Sam look as if he is trying to get away from a GIANT F#@KING ROBOT!
  • Cut “the car won’t start. at least we ditched the monster, right?” keeps the tension in the car higher.
  • Trimmed Bumblebee’s “engine trouble”. He starts himself up and punches it at the right moment. Sam is surprised.
  • Trimmed Mikaela lingering and staring at the sawzall (there is a freaked out robot attacking her boyfriend after all).
  • Cut out Frenzy’s Looney Tunes running in place/some silly noises during fight with Sam.
  • Cut Sam saying “not so tough without a head, are you?”, trimmed transition.
  • Left Wilhelm scream! Smile
  • Cut frenzy shaking his head and saying ‘ooooh” to Mikaela’s purse.
  • Cut “it’s probablyJapanese, yeah, definitely Japanese”
  • Trimmed Sam and Mikaela drooling over Bumblebee’s interior/Bumblebee taking his time sitting in traffic inside a tunnel (while in “disguise”).
  • Cut “excuse me? are you the tooth fairy (barf)?
  • Cut “what’s crackin little bitches?”
  • Cut the second (Sam’s) Ebay plug.
  • Slightly trimmed “Scorponoks tail” scene, making it a little more of a suprise.
  • Cut “the donut scene”.
  • Cut kid cutting in on female reporter.
  • Cut the Masturbation scene.
  • Cut Sam and his parents being dragged outside (you touch my dog….don’t talk to anyone until we have a lawyer…etc.).
  • Cut Sam saying “what you mean like ET? pfffft” I know it’s a reference to Spielberg, and it’s real cute, but Shia’s acting at that point is a little iffy.
  • Cut “criminals are hot!”
  • Trimmed Optimus slamming into Sector7 SUV for effect (to make it more of a suprise/shock).
  • Cut Bumblebee pissing scene. I know that the agents are wet in the scene after that, but I’m going to chalk that up to sweat. If anyone can teach me how to clean that up digitally (or do it for me. Adigitalman? Adywan? Darth Editous? Anyone?), I’d be glad to, but for now, I just had to get rid of that ridiculous scene.
  • Cut “where’s Sector 7? Wouldn’t you like to know?”
  • Cut Frenzy’s landing/more goofy noises from his fall off dam ledge.
  • Cut Simmons saying “they know the way of the samurai.”
  • Cut Maggie saying”that thing is freaky! he’s like the little bitty Energizer bunny from hell, eh?
  • Trimmed end of phone-bots rampage and Simmons saying “aww, he’s breakin the box….”
  • Cut Frenzy saying “beeta, beeta, beeta!!”
  • Cut “ok, you want to leave the fate of the world on a kid’s Camaro?”
  • Cut Sam asking Bumblebee, “they didn’t hurt you, right?” (Awww, poor wittle robot).
  • Merged footage of bumblebee looking around and then slamming face shield down. (it was a pain in the dick to line up video/sound spent 4 hours alone on that one 10 second scene. Eat your heart out ILM!). Cut out Sam talking in between shots.
  • Cut Frenzy saying “duh/uh” when he tries breaking into the room with the crew. Trimmed scene slightly.
  • Trimmed 4 frames of Secretary of Defense Keller breaking glass to make the timing more realistic.
  • Cut Simmons “get out of the way…” trying to blowtorch frenzy…..frenzy shooting discs into room, Goodburger screaming about it, Keller sending message, Air Force responding.
  • Cut smiley, dipshit kid saying” COOOL MOM!” I worked on this longer than any other shot, and should have given up quite frankly, but god I hated it. I’m pretty proud that I got it to work.
  • Cut FRENZY “OH SHIT!” (I know it’s a G1 reference, but it’s gay here.)
  • Cut Epps saying “that ain’t friendly”.
  • Cut “I’ll drive, you shoot!”. It’s a weird little mix-up of cuts, that mostly works, but being my most hated line in the whole movie, it just had to be removed. I had to steal sound effects from a different battle to get this one to work. I’m pretty happy with it, considering I got to remove one of the worst lines from the movie.
  • Cut Lennox saying “uh this isn’t going well.”
  • Cut Mikaela saying “SHOOT! SHOOT!”
  • Cut the “advertisement-bots”. I kind of like Mountain Dew bot, but it was impossible to cut the scene up (without rebuilding the audio track from scratch, fuck that.) to remove the other bots. I’m happy with it, and it keeps things rolling. Besides, there was some awful acting in the whole scene.
  • Trimmed a couple of seconds in the Allspark hand-off to try and trim the hang time, and increase the urgency. It seemed as if Sam was taking his time to get rid of this thing that giant fucking robots were chasing him for.
  • Left in michael bay getting flicked into a car by megatron. Smile
  • Cut “bring the rain” #2
  • Cried about not being able to cut Link Park song from the end (yet, damn it!).

  1. This is the first fan edit I have seen and I must say it was exceptionally well done.

What footage was cut was done subtly and was rightly omitted for it’s silliness.

  2. I registered just now so that I can leave a comment and say how absolutely well done this edit is. I appreciate all the work that went into this to make it a much better movie than the Michael “lowest common denominator” Bay version.

I look forward to the future edits of the movie, especially the G1 cut. I don’t know what that is but I hope it has something to do with dubbing the original voice actors from the cartoon into the movie if that’s possible. Frank Welker FTW!

  3. I’m actually still in the middle of watching it and it’s already a big improvement, but there’s a part at the start, right after Blackout reveals himself to be a transformer, that they show a reaction shot of the commander in the base going “my god…”, i would love for this line to have been cut out, i know you’d lose the reaction, but it’s such a horrible cliche in these action movies, the general or president type guy slowly saying a variation of “oh my god…”, and such a lazy bit of scriptwriting IMO.

other than that, very good job cutting out the silly parts so far, it’s a great improvement

  4. Nicely done, sir. On a technical level, I can’t think of a single criticism. Everything was seamless, and extremely professional. Your choice of what to cut/what not to cut was a bit more of a mixed bag for me…

Let me start by saying that this cut is definitely an improvement over the original. However, I think more could be done. I see this movie as having 4 distinct parts, the robots (duh), Shia and his family, the military, and the NSA/Sectoin 7. When I first saw this movie in the theater all of these parts worked for me except one… the NSA/Section 7. This part was uniformly horrible. Jon Voight was terrible, John Tuturro was terrible, they British girl’s dialogue was terrible, and Anthony Anderson was mostly just annoying. Also, nothing interesting (read no action) takes place during 95% of these scenes. Therefore, I still have major problems with how much of them you left in. These scenes should all be cut to literally the bare minimum. There should be no throw away lines, because quite frankly every single line that isn’t required for the scene or the plot to make sense should be thrown away. I’m not going to make an exhaustive list (even though I’d like to), but I will point out that you can (and should) completely throw out the girlfriend’s “criminal past”. You cut out almost all of Shia being mad about it anyway, so you may as well cut it and save a few dozen lines of poorly written/delivered dialogue. Beyond that though, you should have cut the little girl taking her tooth out from under her pillow. It’s pointless if you’re not going to have her say the tooth fairy line. Also, if possible you should cut the whole credit card/ Indian customer service rep thing. There’s really no reason to cut away from the battle if you can help it. There’s also a shot when they’re trying to make contact from under the damn where Jon Voight seems to just randomly shoot into the pile of stuff they have blocking the door. For some reason it really jumped out at me as seeming weird.

As far as thing I wished you had kept… the “it’s Japanese” line (probably the funniest line in the movie)… the “cool mom” line (sometimes you need a character in the movie to say exactly what the audience is thinking, and I don’t know how your inner child wasn’t thinking how awesome it would be to actually see giant robots fighting each other)… the advertising bots (if I remember correctly, the “Dew-bot” shot cans like they did in the commercial, which I loved)… “I’ll drive, you shoot” ( Ihonestly don’t care about this line one way or the other, but the way you cut it together just doesn’t make me feel that it makes sense for them to drive back out there, when It did before. Honestly, I don’t see why you bothered).

Overall, I’d have to say that this was really well done and enjoyable to watch. I see that you intend to make a few more cuts of this film, and I imagine that some of my concerns will be addressed in one or the other (though I doubt you’ll be adding any comedy back in). But as of now, all I can do is rate what’s before me… 4 stars. Good Job.

  5. Great edit, very seamless.

For my two cents…the only thing I would say is that I agree with JCPRuckus in that more of the Sector 7 stuff should be cut. It really is hopelessly terrible stuff…. As much of it as possible should be taken out.

    As for other suggested cuts:

    Girlfriend’s criminal past,

The autobots being idiotic / clumsy – e.g Optimus saying “Oops, my bad”…

The military worship – e.g. Voight’s line “Losing really isn’t part of these guy’s vocabulary”. Urgh. Also, parts with the little kids and locals in Qatar helping out the troops…just seems like clumsy propaganda…

When Shia’s arrested, It’d be nice if you could get rid of some of the comedy cop stuff – “You lookin’ at my gun? / Are you on drugs”? – Just weird, far too broad comedy.

Maybe a few other cuts around the “comedy” moments – the chihuahua with the bling, Bumblebee being like Herby, etc….oh, and DEFINITELY the kid with the video camera who screams “This is WAY cooler than Armageddon”. Needless Michael Bay self-congratulations.

Everything else is excellent. Are you planning on doing another cut?

  6. i enjoyed this “soft cut” of transformers and think that this is an essential improvement and replacement. the bulk of the terrible-ness of transformers is removed and now we have a tighter version of michael bay’s horrible movie, LOL.

  7. Awesome work. Not much else that needs to be said.
I wasn’t planning on watching the movie any time soon, but I just did and I enjoyed it.
Now, inevitably also, here’s my suggestions (some have already been brought up):

    - Remove “My ladies” scene and later laptop jamming. Noticeably a setup for a scene that doesn’t finally happen.
    - Remove chihuahua bling comment.
    - I thought “You’ll call me” was good. Kinda emphasized the boyfriend as an ass.
    - “Looking at my piece, 50 cent?” scene. Cut police station scene before that part starts. Pointless.
    - Shorten shot of guy standing doing nothing in the aisle before the SWAT break into Glen’s house.
    - Cut girl taking tooth from under pillow.
    - Cut “Easily 100 times better than Armageddon”
    - Remove call center scene, call directly to Pentagon.
    - Skip Optimus breaking the fountain. Cut from “Watch the path, please, please!” to “You can’t wait for five minutes. Just stay!!!”. Debris are later shown, but may pass as rubble from them breaking the paths.
    - Skip scene with Mojo peeing on Ironhide, which shows Ironhide as an illiterate grunt that can’t even speak properly. I think the scene could be recut to Ironhide just slapping Mojo around, Sam picking him up and getting into the house.
    - Remove scene with Bumblebee walking forward and ‘unzipping’ before peeing on Simmons. No point.
    - Cut Keller’s “You mean that I can not pick up this telephone and call my fa…” Maybe leave it at “You mean that…”
    - Remove Maggie to Glen “Morse code, this through that”. The dude is supposed to be some kind of genius. He wouldn’t need such an idiotic explanation.

  8. I really enjoyed this one and have shared it with others. Reave got rid of most of the stuff that bugged me about it and so far, this is my ultimate version of the movie. The only thing I can think of that I’d've kept in was the ‘probably Japanese’ line, and removed Optimus saying ‘Oops, my bad.’ I don’t like anyone saying that, especially truck robots. ;)

Overall, I give it a 9/10. Better than the original and well executed.
