I’m old enough to remember the excitement and anticipation surrounding the initial release of Jonathan Mostow’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. I literally could not wait to get down to my local cinema to watch the first available screening… ahhh, those were the days.

For many, it’s Cameron’s T2:Judgment Day which represents the absolute zenith of the series, but for me that’s far from the case. Whilst I certainly enjoyed T2, I still prefer the original Terminator. The darker tone, the grittier film stock, Arnie as one of cinema’s most impressively destructive villains; what more could one want? To me, Cameron hasn’t made a truly brilliant movie since Aliens. As his budgets have increased, so has his ability to keep the emotional framework of the story and characters intact deserted him.

Mostow’s third chapter is often thought of as the worst of the series, even taking into account McG’s Terminator Salvation. Not so for me though. I loved it from the first time I saw it, even with the “talk to the hand”, comedy sunglasses and Kristina Locke increasing her breast size to sweet talk a traffic cop moments. Unlike the majority, these blatant comedy relief scenes never bothered me much at the time. One could say I even embraced them. Besides, I liked the whole pay off which the movie eventually bestows upon the viewer, that there was no way to stop judgment day; it was just the T-850’s job to get John Connor and Kathryn Brewster to safety.

Oh and then there’s that chase sequence as the TX pursues Connor and Brewster in a huge crane-truck. I remember this came out around the same time as the Matrix Reloaded and its much hyped car chase sequence on the freeway. Whereas the latter left me cold and unmoved with its CGI trickery, the sheer physicality and “doing it for real” style of Mostow’s sequence left me enthralled and with a huge smile on my face. It remains one of my favourite action sequences in cinema.

Anyway, the idea therefore that a fanedit could improve the film that much was somewhat negligible for me. Yet, after reading how positive the reviews were for Uncanny Antman’s The Coming Storm I knew I had to see it.

I actually made sure that I stayed away from the cutlist on the fanedit page, as I wanted to try and discover what was different on my own. From the opening moment which kicks things off during Connor’s nightmare, thereby removing the voiceover I got an early indication just why this edit is so highly thought of. Then I realised the supervirus is missing, cheesy lines such as “I like this car” are gone, the whole Kate and Scott go shopping scene never happens, and the ladies night scene removes the somewhat ill-fitting camp comedy moments such as the T-850 actually talking to the male stripper’s hand. All very sensible and logical cuts which only serve to enhance the story rather than detract from it.

Some of the changes are very slight and admittedly a lot of them I only realised once I had actually read the cutlist after watching the edit. But the impressive thing is that technically this has to be one of the most sublime fanedits I have ever seen.

Visually it’s more or less the same as watching the official DVD and the audio editing here has to be one of the very best examples of what can be achieved in fan editing. Audio editing is very close to my own heart and I know that it’s the process which usually will take up the most time for any faneditor. Uncanny Antman’s work here is simply perfection….not even a sniff of an even slightly dodgy edit for me here.

So video would get 9/10, audio 10/10

As I touched upon the editing decisions here in relation to improving the story and overall effectiveness of the film are very sound. As much as I liked Mostow’s original cut, the excising of the more cheesy lines and removal of some of the less important subplots of the movie (the whole Brewster and Connor in Mike Kripke’s basement is not missed at all for me) really does lend the film extra weight in all the right places. It now feels more in tone with the original Terminator and that can only be a good thing.

Even the truncating of the TX vs T-850 battle at the end works in the film’s favour, with some of the TX’s growls and screams editing our lending the scene more realism. As for the slightly changed ending, I loved it. With no voice-over the whole scene seems to be even darker and has more emotional impact for me.

So for entertaining and editing choices, this easily gets 10/10.

Considering how much I liked the original cut of T3, I was amazed at just how much Uncanny Antman’s edit has improved the film. I can honestly say that it is now second only to Cameron’s original for me (yeah, I know… I can hear all those cries of “better than T2, you’re mad!!!”). I seriously believe that anyone interested in fanediting should watch this edit, as it really doesn’t get much better than this.

Overall, a thoroughly deserved 10/10.

This is the definitive version of Terminator 3, IMHO.

When I first saw the T3 theatrical release, I didn't think it was fixable. But UA's painstaking work demonstrated there's an excellent chase/sci-fi movie hiding in that cheesy shell.

Excellent job.

Excellent! Turd polishing at its best!
I only saw the original one time because it was bad. This movie however changed that, i now like the movie.

Regarding other edits, I would like to know more about what the differences are between this and T-Hopes edition, as i have not seen T-Hopes yet.
Specifically is this one better than the other? are they very different or only slightly different?

I really enjoyed this one so i dont feel the urge to check out other Terminator 3 versions at least not anytime soon.

10/10 Excellent job!

Without a doubt the best Fanedit I've seen. I can't really say any more than the praise that's already been heaped by everyone else. Don't get me wrong, there were flaws aplenty, but every single one was attributable to Jonathan Mostow and the original editor. That the Faneditor has managed to take the mess that was Terminator 3 and turn it into this is nothing short of astounding, and having now read the list of edits I can see that he's even tried his best to correct as many of the flaws that Mostow allowed where they couldn't be completely cut out of necessity (notably the TX in the graveyard sequence).

Paring the dialogue down to the minimum for both the T850 and TX (who is almost silent throughout) is a vast improvement - subtle when watching this cut but incredibly jarring when they natter on and on in the official version. And removing the Terminator blinking and the human reactions was absolutely necessary to remind the audience that these are machines and are all the more menacing because they are. Arnie blinking in T1 when he kills Sarah Connor's room mate jarrs when I watch that film so it's no wonder I spent most of T3 feeling uncomfortable.

Still not a patch on T1 or T2 but, like all who've commented before me, this is the only version I'll be watching from now on when I want my Terminator fix.

Had I seen this for the first time without having seen T3 I'd be giving a 7/10 for entertainment. But knowing this is a Fanedit 10/10 is the only score it deserves.

Just got done watching this edit and I have to say, this movie was improved a hundred-fold. All of the cuts worked breilliantly, making the T-850 much more machine-like in its behavior and making the activation of Skynet much more plausible. It now holds true to what we've learned about Skynet's activation previously and some continuity has been restored. If I hadn't seen the film previously, the scene of Scott killing the police officer would have been a much greater surprise, and it's certainly more appreciated than the original version. Scott's talking to the cops when answering the door was horrible. Now know nothing about it and suddenly WHAM. Excellent.

However, my favorite part of this edit was the ending. By removing the V/O and using that music, you made it a much more powerful and emotional ending. The camera pulls back from John and Kate with the strains of the music playing, and we see Skynet launching its attack upon the world. We hear nothing but the music and the faint sounds of destruction. It builds until the final fade out. It's always struck me as an emotional scene, and your edit has made it so. It's sad. It's gut-wrenching. It silences you. And it's a perfect ending.

I applaud you for your work here. This film is now worthy of the TERMINATOR name, and I will watch it as part of the series with joy.

i totally loved this cut and this is now (finally) my definitive T3 version. congrats for changing all of the insulting ''stupidness'' included in the
theatrical cut... the only thing that bugged me was: "... and removed shot of TX’s hand slowly taking the steering wheel." since i really liked it.

but again, this is imo the best version around (no offense to the other fanedits) !!!

Excellent job, man. Terminator 3 was such a disappointment. The writers must have thought T2 was an action comedy and set out to make T3 just that. The changes you made prove how lazy the writers and director are.

Video quality: Great 5 out of 5

Audio quality: Also great 5 out of 5

Editing 5 out of 5: Impressive. Good job with the spell correction, ha. Love all the little cuts you made. It helped keep the film from becoming ridiculous. And removal of some of the voice-over was good, too.

Original Cut: 3 out of 5

Your Cut: 4.5 out of 5

Overall score: 4.5 out of 5
You've definitely made T3 into a better film. Unfortunately, It's still far from perfect. It's not your fault, of course.
it's just that.....you didn't have much to work with. It would be like trying to save a burnt piece of toast. Won't matter how much butter you put on it. It's still burnt.
The story was weak. The new T-X is not as intimidating as the T-800 and the T-1000 even though it's supposed to be more advanced. The film didn't have the same
ominous end-of-the-world feel that the 1st two did. The idea of John Connor being killed in 2032 by the T-850 was silly to me. Seemed like an attempt to put the spotlight
on the female leads and making Connor seem so insignificant. The filmmakers were SO lazy.

1st fan edit I have watched....

Not knowing what to expect I have to say this was a great standard.. The only thing that bothered me was the sudden introduction of the skynet /military situation in the last 3rd of the film..To me that felt like a bit of an afterthought and I would liked to have seen that as a more integral part of the story far earlier...

That said the quality of the work done is the nuts ..Transitions were seamless and the editing of the action sequences were brilliant which realy brought justice to some of the awesome work put into the source material..Most notably for me the evil presence of the girl terminator and the crane chase sequence...The merits of that scene were more or less lost in the original film which I absolutly hated... Now it realy kicks ass and a crap movie is now very watchful...Well done man I'll look at more of your stuff and cant wait to check out some more films..

Not knowing what to expect I have to say this was a great standard.. The only thing that bothered me was the sudden introduction of the skynet /military situation in the last 3rd of the film..To me that felt like a bit of an afterthought and I would liked to have seen that as a more integral part of the story far earlier…

That said the quality of the work done is the nuts ..Transitions were seamless and the editing of the action sequences were brilliant which realy brought justice to some of the awesome work put into the source material..Most notably for me the evil presence of the girl terminator and the crane chase sequence…The merits of that scene were more or less lost in the original film which I absolutly hated… Now it realy kicks ass and a crap movie is now very watchful…Well done man I’ll look at more of your stuff and cant wait to check out some more films..

Excellent job overall. Without the voiceover, rather than rolling my eyes at the ending I just went cold... you did the seemingly impossible and made this a powerful installment to the Terminator series.

Although it still won't change the fact that I don't consider T3 canon. Judgement Day happening despite all the efforts of the last trilogy was a horrible move along the lines of ending Return of the Jedi with the Empire revealing a third Death Star and crushing the Rebellion. Or Sauron screaming "NOOOOO! Lucky I keep a spare." Terminator 3 is, and will always be, a "What-If" scenario.

Despite that, like I said, this makes me enjoy T3 and that's quite an accomplishment.

Great edit! However, there are some issues that I had with it:

1. Too much of the T-850 one-liners are missing. Duologue like “Get out of here! Now!” & “Keep moving!” & “Move over” & “We need a new vehicle" are all in line with the fact of Terminator personalities. It's true that they shouldn't have emotions, but they aren't just mindless automatons. Those lines imply intelligence.

The line “I am unable to comply,” should also remain. It's a throwback to T2, where the T-800 tells the Connors that he cannot self-terminate. It also serves as a hint that this T-850 is here to follow Kate's orders.

2. The removed shot of TX’s hand slowly taking the steering wheel is a problem, as you still show the T-X getting out of the BACK of the police car in the graveyard. The dead cops are in clear view, so now you have to wonder who was driving?

3. (Removed Kate screaming, “Do something!” at the Terminator. ) This removal was unnecessary.

4. (Removed the Terminator telling John and Kate to run when the TX shows up.) This, too, is an unnecessary removal. It doesn't matter that John and Kate don't need to be told to run, it's good that the T-850 tells them anyway. Stating the obvious is a trait of machines as well as humans.

5. (Removed the TX turning her upper body all the way around.) Unnecessary.

6. (...different final shot of the film.) I dislike this move. That future shot of the T-850 still trapped under that door was excellent.

But, like I said, this was a better job than what was created by the assembly-line produced crap from Hollywood.

Excellent version of the film, definitive in my opinion. Nick Stahl acts much more like an older Ed Furlong with his quick mind, but shows some remnants of an obviously trouble life since his mother died (drugs, etc...who knows?) that can slow the mind down, so this is apparent in the early part of the film, and IMO is the whole point of those additions. He becomes much more like the John Connor we expect toward the end of the film (and even has some of Reese in him too, cleverly acted by NS). The removal of all the cheese and corniness is perfect, and the ending is very Jeff Waynes WOTW... ;-)

Having just watched the trailer for T4:SALVATION this is a must-see for anyone going to the movies this Summer/Winter (in our Southern Hemisphere!) and sets it up nicely.

The one thing I wish film-makers would stop doing is shooting "Day-for-night" or "mid-afternoon for early morning"! The colour "correction" is so obvious and the shadows are a dead giveaway, so, UA, if you ever do an AVCHD version of this, consider lengthening the shadows in the first chase scene after the Vets as the sun is coming up, or trying to remove them altogether and giving a "cold early morning" feel to it - which would make the half-empty roads much more believable, too. Pretty soon after that were in full-blown daylight (do producers have any idea about time??) so it would be a fair challenge.

This has restored my faith in the Series, am actually looking forward to Ranting Bale in the next one.

BTW, love the menu clip!

Now, if someone can do the same for Alien:Resurrection...

Wow.

I came acros this site by chance, this is about the third fanedit I've watched. Amazing.

I bought this on dvd a couple of years ago and was unimpressed with the tone of the movie, the pacing, the overall feel. This edit improves the movie to the extent that it drags it up to the level of an enjoyable movie experience. I'm amazed at what antman could do with the material. The film becomes a darker, snappier, rollercoaster ride, with no more than two moments that maybe felt a little off.

Well done chap!

Anyone who enjoyed the first two movies must watch this edit. Thats all.

9/10 overall

Very impressive. Far better than the original release, and replaces "canon" as far as I'm concerned. As good as advertised!

I'm just getting into the fanedit world, and you boyz need to pat yourselves on the back for the talent/skill you have to do this,

As a side note, I consider myself artistic and creative, and want to learn how to fanedit. Are there any written guides, and what programs are recommended?

There are some edits on here where the picture or things int he picture are edited/altered. How is that done (non-professionally)?

I always wanted to learn to do a fanedit of Manhunter, but Leonenut beat me to it (and he did a great job IMO).

Antman, you have some awesome skills man! Great work! You know what would be another tremendous project.

Seeing your love for the Termiantor franchise, your should do an edit fo THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, and make it into a feature length movie, maaan, it has some incredible themes, character development, and storyline that would fit perfectly. Just a suggestion. I think another fanedit award should be coming your way!

I just finished watching this edit and I'm here to pay my debt for such a great gift. I'm amazed at how much better that the original this version is. The production values are excellent. And I'm sure that if the editors of the theatrical version of this movie see this edit they will forever be ashamed of themselves. I hope Uncanny Antman is making millions as an editor somewhere, he is that talented.

The best thing I can say is that I am totally astonished at how much better UA managed to make this movie. Like a lot of people, I only remember T3 for how crappy it was. With this edit, UA has managed to make it WAAAAYYY closer to the quality of the first two. Of course, those 2 movies set an impossible bar for most to reach. So that is a big compliment, especially considering the original cut.

Technically it is perfectly done, and I loved the little touches like inserting of Aliens on the TV (Seamless, BTW. I didn't even realize for awhile it wasn't originally there). My only misgiving is we never hear the Terminator theme proper in the opening or closing. And yes, the virus thing might have been a tad clearer. However, UA scores points for replacing the strip club music with "Intimacy". Very clever.

This is about as good as a fan edit gets.

Very very good!
John is much more mature, the silly jokes gone...this is a Terminator movie that can stand next to the earlier ones.
It's so much darker, really a great job.

Thanks a lot!

Awesome edit. This is far superior to the original.

One thing I would have left in would be a stronger connection between John and Kate in the past. Not that it was a strong connection but it was something of a connection.
I remember when I first watched T3, I wondered why the TX would be after Kate and it was explained. Probably a little too much.
So I would have left in a little more of the RV scene before the T-850’s removed line about levity.
This also strengthens the idea of inevitibility, makes for a compelling reason for the TX to be hunting Kate to begin with and just makes us care a little more about her.

Other than that quibble, this is a must have fan edit. I really enjoyed it.

A real improvement, removing the dumb humor made it feel more like the first two movies I agree!

Been a while since I saw the original so I don't remember exactly whats missing or changed but this edit flows very naturally.

I'm feel sorry for not expressing my praise any sooner as I've been a owner of this edit for quite some time.I saw the theatrical version when it was released, and I hated it.It was a unfunny kid movie. But this edit fixes many of my problems I had with the original movie, and for that I thank you Uncanny-Antman.I've thrown out the orginal T3 DVD from my collection(hid it) and exchanged it for this edit. Finally I can watch Terminator 3 and say:It's a pretty good Arnold Schwarzenegger movie.

It seems that I’m the only one who didn’t care much for this edit?

I didn’t like Terminator 3 much either when it came out, and remember when being asked weither I liked it or not, answered “Ehh, it was funny!”.

I haven’t seen it since, and I agree that it doesn’t feel like a proper Terminator movie.

My problem with the alternative cut is the same problem as if you wanted to pimp up my Toyota family car, wanting to make it into a proper sportscar, but you were only allowed to remove existing parts on it. You don’t have anything to work with.

Terminator 3 is not a masterpiece in disguise, and this cut doesn’t change that. There are a lot of unmemorable action scenes, a leading man who doesn’t look like Edward Furlong or even a future resistance leader. There’s no chemistry between him and Clare Danes, and the Terminatrix CGI seems out of this world angainst Arnolds mechanical Terminator.

But at least it was funny in some places! And you took those parts away! And then there was the allready mentioned problems with how the Teminatrix found John in the pet hospital, and the boyfriend who suddenly came driving with the police out of nowhere.

Btw. My cut of the movie would last 2 min., and would only concist of the future war scenes ;-)

Sorry about this, but I give you full points for the effort though!

I'm a big Terminator fan, and when I saw Terminator 3 in theatres via an exclusive press premiere, I was actually a bit disappointed. I was really hyped with all the Terminator 3 trailers, and I had expected that T3 would become the best movie out of the Terminator saga. Boy, was I wrong...

I left the theatre with a weird feeling. Was this the movie I had been waiting for? And what was with all the lame and ridiculous stuff... Terminator with Elton John glasses, T-X with inflatable breast, some things just didn't make any sense. The action was big, but the story suffered.

Seemingly I was not the only one with this problem. A lot of Terminator fans complained. And few, including myself, hve tried to create their own version. Uncanny Antman thought the same and followed.

The first things I noticed that we both had similar cuts. A similar basis of stuff that had to be removed.

One of the things I love about this edit is that Uncanny managed to do some of his own special effects. No blinking Terminator, Sarah Connor's tombstone. This was really nicely done and I wish I had that know-how knowledge so I could have done it for my own fanedit. Uncanny Antman manages to do it and it's great!!

Terminator 3 is a somewhat difficult movie to cut. There's not much of deleted footage that has been released, so much stuff has to be taken from the movie itself. T3 is a flawed movie, and I believe fanedits can improve the viewing experience while watching the movie, but can never fix this movie into a masterpiece or to something close that is a good follow-up to T1 and T2. This goes for my own edit, but also for Uncanny Antman's and ADM's.

I have heard a lot of people compare Uncanny's fanedit and my fanedit, and ask which one is better. I cannot give the answer to that one. I enjoy both fanedits, but think they are different. I enjoy Uncanný Antman's fanedit, but on some creative cutting decisions I differ, like the T-X being the one to upload the virus in Uncanny's cut. However, Uncanny has also done some great editing, making the Terminator a much more silent type and even more focussed on the mission.

I think Uncanny did a great job on this one. I rate it 5 stars.
Uncanny Antman, thanks for creating a great Terminator fanedit.

A must see, especially if you hated the original. Way better than the theatrical cut. Thank you so much!

This edit fixes the problems I had with Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines and turns an unwatchable film into a film I heartily recommend. I have burnt DVD copies of this film for several friends (who, just like me, all owned the original on DVD already, though I bought mine 2nd hand for $5).

Uncanny Antman's fanedit of T3 now sits on my shelf alongside the two Cameron originals, and as a direct result of this film I am EAGERLY anticipating T4 where once I had dreaded it.

Thanks Antman!

Having been a fan for years, I was horrified (yes, horrified) by the theater release of T3. I promised myself that I would never watch this sad travesty again.

And then I discovered "The Coming Storm".

All I can add to the justified praise that has already been given to this superb fan edit are my sincere thanks for breathing new life into one of my favorite series!

If you haven't seen this version, get it. Now.

Ok, here is my review of this fanedit.
Now as a way of setting this up I must mention that i do know Uncanny Antman, we got to know each other while he worked on MARVEL 24.
Also I don't hold any hatred or animosity towards him.
Sometimes I have been accused of being unduly harsh and insensitive.
But that is not my intention, I just call it like I see it.
And in this medium, its pretty hard to hide, a bad edit is a bad edit and a good edit is a good edit.
it's there, you can see it.
So Uncanny if you are ready for this read on...
Terminator 3 - The Coming Storm.
Just finished watching it.
Boon once told me that Uncanny Antman is the oldest active member of this forum.
I was trying to find out about UA since he wanted to pick up were I left off with MARVEL 24.
At the time I had been out of the community for about a year.
But i did visit now and then and his name kept popping up, mostly with good buzz.
But I had never seen an Uncanny fanedit.
That's all changed with Terminator 3 - The Coming Storm.
First the Good; Edits are clean and smooth. Unnoticeable. Pristine image quality. Same with the Audio.
Story/Entertainment. There are still several groaners left (Arnold's reaction to the T-X grabbing his crotch) but the movie really moves along. My only quibble would be the scene with the T-X and Cate's boyfriend. But thats is all.
Ultimately the film itself is not very good but this edit really cleans up a lot of it's shortcomings.

On a technical level the video and audio are immaculate.

On the editing level it is faultless.

On a story/entertainment level this fanedit improves on the original.

On my street-wise rating system I give this film a

GREEN LIGHT: Go watch it!

Totally awesome edit UA, this made a pretty weak movie highly watchable.
With the removal of so much slack, this movie flows fast, Has plenty of womph and is now quite emotional at the end.
Excellent work my man, looking forward to watching all your edits. 5/5 Visually flawless.
