  1. Utterly amazing!!! If you enjoy superhero action you’ll love this!

  2. Oh My God – What an utterly AMAZING way to spend an hour. Pure entertainment.

  3. Marvel 24

This is a superb editing job and certainly a convincing portrayal of a world inhabited by super heroes. This is 50 minutes of none stop action.

Technically the sound editing and cutting are absolutely faultless but the problem lies in a lack of cohesive narrative.

The films that have been utilised stay within their own bounds and never interact with each other. As the world is coming to an end and cities are being ripped apart, Peter Parker is in his own universe fighting his own adversaries, and so are the X-Men and so is the Hulk.

Some linking of these Super Hero worlds would have been interesting and added to what came so close to a Fan-Edit classic.

  4. Ok, so, I watched this a couple of days ago now and so have had time to reflect.
I think that this is a great idea and I really admire the decsion to have a go at crafting a unified marvel movie universe. The only problem is, there is no real story linking the characters together, I was extremely confused as to how The Hulk fit into the whole story, and to be honest the whole thing just felt like the fight scenes from several movies cut together with almost no real rhyme or reason.
I’m also going to be honest here, the edits were not even really that good, what with overlapping sound cues and off pace timing really jumping out at me.
At the top of this page Jorge tells us that this is the 3rd episode of 3 and so maybe that is why the whole thing felt disjointed and confusing, so perhaps when seen in context with the other 2 episodes maybe I will enjoy it more. As it is at the moment I would describe this as mediocre at best. It most certainly does not come close to being a Fan-Edit classic!
Then again, I maybe being a little harsh due to the fact that I am still reeling from Adywan’s Star Wars Revisited edit – but to me that really has set the bar for fan edits in the future.
If I were to mark this out of 5 I would give it at 2 – but in saying that I will be d/l the next 2 episodes to see the whole thing in context and maybe then my opinion will change.
    Sorry Jorge.

  5. Maybe my statement “close to a Fan-Edit classic” was a little generous and needs qualifying. What I was trying to convey is that the idea of incorporating these super-hero worlds seamlessly to interact with each-other, with a strong narrative, would indeed come close to a Fan-Edit Classic. This Marvel 24 unfortunately did not.

Jorges’ editing, technically, is seamless and professional. To say otherwise is plainly wrong. The problem is the material he is cutting between has not been joined narratively so it feels disjointed.

Finally, Adywan’s Star Wars Revisited is a brilliant work, no question, but he has done what George Lucas failed to do. He has restored Star Wars to what is possibly the authoritative version. I would call that more of a restoration than a Fan-Edit. A Fan-Edit implies to me, maybe I’m wrong: A person editing a movie or movies to create a film with a new narrative.

  6. First of all: wow!

Action filled Marvel packed suspense for 50 minutes. Thank you

Editing was superb, especially sound. It flowed so well, and the music is there, epic and evident in many scenes that shift characters, and yet there is no disturbance. Truly awesome editing.

I got the feeling that we were supposed to take this as an episode somewhere near the end of a season (perhaps even the last episode?), a season that we haven’t watched before. If I roll with that it’s all good. But the difficulty to follow what’s happening (as it seems to require one to have seen earlier episodes (or the movies then)) drops this just short of 5 for me, along with the fact that there doesn’t seem to be any interaction at all between the different story arcs (Im asking a lot!).

    Editing: 5
Plot/story: 3 (as it is by itself, the accomplishment and planning of this must have been something extra, and the work on that is probably worth another 5!)

    Great edit!

    4 out of 5!

    Review by spelledaren — April 3, 2008 @ 7:01 am

  7. I know, KBM, that you know about my passion for this project. I downloaded it a week ago (or so) and watched it. Fifty minutes later, I didn’t want it to end. This is one of the most brilliant ideas I’ve seen. The best part of it is, because it’s Marvel, and they use real locations (not like Metropolis or Gotham or whatever), it is possible for things to be occurring in the same city and people never run into one another.

Please, oh please, bring this story full circle!

And as for a true fan-edit classing needing to have a narrative… Eh, I say it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

Jorge’s work is some of the strongest, he takes on projects that usually take the most time and have the least amount of “good” material, and he makes masterpieces. This is a 5 out of 5 edit for me.

  8. I really liked this one, and even though I don’t watch “24″, that didn’t matter. I got the references to the series. ;) I decided that I would watch this with my mother, who also likes all the movies used in the making of this one. This edit was fun and tied together well in the end. (I think it was Silver Surfer saying that everyone needs to make a choice that yielded the first “aha!” moment.) The only part I found odd were the Hulk scenes. I didn’t get the point of them being there, to be honest, and would love to know what the editor’s reasons were to put them in. But that’s a small niggle in an otherwise excellent project.

As my mother said at the end of our viewing, “well done, Jorge.”

    Review by Ripplin — April 19, 2008 @ 5:30 am

  9. thanks for the comment Ripplin. The explanation for the HULK is that this is supposed to be episode 3 and the HULK segments would play a bigger part in episodes 1,2, and 4. thye are little teasers and also a way to start strong and end strong. the adventures continue…

  10. Great piece of editing Jorge. I always enjoy watching your little experiments. This was extremely entertaining. However the story felt thin at times, and I saw opportunity to make this a more cohesive story. Most of these films that you utilized, I find to be complete crap, yet you turned it into something enjoyable. thanks. I’ll give this one a 4 out of 5. The video and audio were nice, and use of cuts and interesting edits were great. The story could have been improved slightly. Cant wait to see your next edit!!

  11. I Like this fanedit. You should try to make another now with Blade, Daredevil, Punsiher and Ghost Rider.

  12. I found the cross-cutting to be a little frantic near the end, but this is an undeniably fun edit. You can’t go wrong checking this one out.

    Review by Uncanny Antman — July 15, 2008 @ 1:27 am

  13. just finished watching episode 2 and 3.
both were absolutely fantastic, enjoyed them immensely
thank you for your hard work and sharing of the final product!

    Review by msimon7 — September 13, 2008 @ 6:12 am

  14. it could be because i’ve actually never seen 24 (and never plan to…) but i didn’t enjoy this edit at all. the storylines never seemed to connect and my brain stopped caring about half way through.

clearly others enjoyed this a tremendous amount and perhaps one day i’ll smoke whatever it is they are smoking! LOL

technical quality was great, but entertainment gets a 1/5 from me.

    2/5

    Review by joebshmoe — February 13, 2009 @ 8:29 pm

  15. This edit was very enjoyable for non stop action, but a bit confusing to start with as it starts in the middle of the action. Why you are editing backwards is odd. But great work though.

    Review by theguyver — May 15, 2009 @ 5:38 pm

  16. Very intertaining!
The none interaction between the stories is balanced by the good editing work.
All in all I spent a very good moment watching those 50 action packed 50 minutes and I liked the experience.

    Review by TMBTM — August 17, 2009 @ 10:51 pm

  17. wow this edit is a prime example of “pure fun edits”

since i can’t argue about plotlines or anything, i just wanted to say: i even enjoyed the fantastic 4 parts and with the constant clock ticking and world ending-pictures it was a real cool experience

    8/10

    Review by Sunarep — November 28, 2009 @ 12:53 am

  18. Although the cuts from each individual movie where excellently chosen, as a whole the stories didn’t connect to each other in a meaningful way. This might be true to the style of 24, but haven’t seen much of the show since I don’t really like it. If only the stories had something to do with each other. Everything else came off perfectly.
    Thank you. 6/10 (editing: 9/10)

    Review by Derelict Mind — February 5, 2010 @ 6:06 am

  19. Well it really was just the essence of the original movies. Just super heroes kicking ass! It even felt too action packed at some moments. Overwhelming to be exact. but it was entertaining all the way through. those were some mediocre movies and you made them feel cool, and that’s an achievement! the 24 concept was a really interesting idea, but the films had no real connection to each other. xmen were doing their own thing, spiderman was doing his own thing…… the video quality was nice, noticed some audio cuts here and there but nothing too bad. the whole 24 feeling was really spot on. the only thing that i really have a complain for is the lack of hulk. just a couple of seconds of him with no point at all? you should have made him a part of this episode or not included him at all in my opinion. Overall a good edit, had fun watching it 8/10 Good job!
