This definitely is my go-to version of ANH.
Technical quality - 10/10 - Sharp video, crystal clear audio.
Editing - 10/10 - Completely seamless.
Presentation - 10/10 - I loved the menu.
Entertainment - 10/10 - I'm not a SW nerd, so I probably didn't notice half the changes, but the ones I did, I loved. The cantina scene, new Star Destroyer shots, lightsaber duel, and ending battle were magnificent especially. The movie looked much more updated and could be enjoyed more than ever before.
Overall - 10/10

Well, there's not much to add to what's already gone before me. I am blown away by the amount of work that went into this. The attention to detail is so impressive, I'm sure I only caught a fraction of things that have been added or improved upon. Most notable for me were the removal of Jabba and the addition of new but still in-keeping graphics for the planning of the attack on the Death Star, plus the hologram at the Rebels HQ. The only areas I would have changed were the SE addition of Biggs before the attack (unnecessary, as the scenes with Biggs at the beginning never made the film and he was only referenced in passing) and the new edit of the scene in Ben's home. It worked better before, quite frankly. Luke is obsessed with finding out who this Leia woman is and how he can help her. In this edit, he finds out and seems disinterested. Still, I know that when my nephew wants to watch 'Star Wars' for the first time, this is the DVD I will pull out. It really is that good.

Lots of different comments about what was added and what was taken away. I imagine that if one tried to please all of the fans then there would be more than a hundred different versions, at least.

First, my likes:
1. Removing Jabba. Yes! I always felt that this revealed Jabba too early. He was a mysterious, unknown figure in the original trilogy and then you finally went to his palace (suspension building as C3P2 and R2-D2 go in) and finally meet the disgusting overgrown slug. This was completely ruined with a poorly done CG character (whose texture did not even look like it did in the third movie) and having Han step on the tail of the man who just sent an assassin to kill him does not make sense.
2. Removing the puerile robot humor on the entry to Mos Eisly. Thanks!
3. re-cutting the battle between Obi-wan and Darth Vader, it actually felt intense!
4. turning Vader's saber on after Obi-wan, and making Obi-wan turn it on earlier (thus eliminating the "jerk"). Noticed that right off.
5. All of the fantastic work on the lightsabers and lasers (Obi-wan's lightsaber no longer flickers like it's failing or something!)
6. Chewie's medal, just brilliant.
7. The overall crisp look of the film. It made me excited about Star Wars again.
8. Planet added to Death Star scenes.
9. New graphics for Death Star plans.
10. More TIEs.

Things I didn't care for:
1. The re-sequenced scene at Obi-wan's hut (maybe I just remember the old way too well but it seemed slightly awkward)
2. The new music added to Obi-wan and Darth Vader's battle, it seemed a little too modern to fit with the old Star Wars.
3. Some of the re-sequenced shots in the battle---like making Luke's "getting cooked" not appear after he'd just been "trusting his feelings", again that could be just because I remember the original so well.

If anyone agrees with these, check out the "Purist" edition Adywan made. I'm currently helping seed it. Sadly I am a mixture of Purist and the full-edit, I don't care for the new music, mainly, but like the new graphics and battle elements.

In any event, this was a great watch and has made me enjoy Star Wars again. I only watched the 2004 DVDs once and was disappointed and thought that perhaps I had outgrown Star Wars. This turns out to not be the case, it was Lucas that had deserted me.

Just got around to watching this and downloaded the DVD version. What can I say what has not been said before....it was awesome, no wait someone did say that before!

It is a fan edit but done so professionally it in my opinion looks better than the 2004 DVDS, the 2011 blu ray will be hard pressed to surpass this in terms of picture quality and sound.

The colour are so bright especially the lightsabers which have been done to perfection.

Love the tie in with Episode III when Vader and Obi-Wan fight.

All the new CGI shots of the Death Star are great too, love the end fight and how that was edited.

Some may say it is still a special edition version and as such not a restoration of the original, but to me it is so much more. It is like getting the original film, remastering it, adding scenes and improving on scenes, not adding scenes for the sake of it. (something Lucas IMO needs to look at doing) and making a great improved version of A New Hope.

STAR WARS: REVISITED by ADYWAN

Wow, just wow. This is the first time I’ve ever watched a fan edit, and it’s simply amazing. The color, the lightsabers, really everything ADYWAN has done is incredible. Everything that has ever nudged me in the wrong direction is gone. I especially like the inclusion of “Imperial March” (even though it felt odd to me at first, which I realized is simply because of my repeat watchings of the original) and the extended Death Star battle, which really helped to remind us that, contrary to popular belief, the Empire does not want the Death Star to be destroyed.

Only one thing annoyed me and that was the use of “Battle of the Heroes” during the Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader fight. While I think it’s a completely awesome piece, it has a high level of epicness that feels out of place here. Though I 100% approve of editing the duel to have a faster pace, as it always seemed to me like the black sheep of the saga’s lightsaber duels.

Overall, this edit is definitely worth watching, though, I feel this review probably isn’t going to get anyone to watch it because it seems everyone already has. This is what the Special Edition should have been, though, I’m split between this version and the original theatrical. As a film fan, I would have to go with the original. But as a Star Wars fan, I would have to go with this edit. Because of that, I give STAR WARS: REVISITED 10/10

One of the few fan edits that truly deserves the praise it has received. I can't really find any fault with it worth complaining about... except that it makes LFL look like a bunch of amateurs with their constant screwing up of these movies whenever they try to "fix" them. I mean, the 2004 DVD set made this movie look like junk, with all the artifacts and the idiotic lightsaber issues. All that is fixed here. And the space battle sequence over the Death Star is even extended. Amazing.

My dad grew up watching the Star Wars films, so when I was young he introduced them to me as well. When the re-releases came out in the nineties, my dad and I waited hours outside of theaters on the opening days. Then, when the prequel trilogy came out it was the same story.

Of course, in my later years I realized how disappointing episodes 1 and 2 were, and I stopped caring so much about Star Wars altogether.

But then I got this movie, and it has completely reinvigorated my love of Star Wars. Thank you so much Adywan! I can't wait for Empire Revisited, or the other four movies for that matter.

Wow. Just wow. This has to be the greatest Fanedit I have ever seen. I really wish this would get an offical release. I mean it. My words cannot describe how great this is. If there is anything I disliked about it, I guess it is the removal of the Jabba scene. Yes, I am one of the 5 people who enjoyed it. Oh well, nothing big. Fantastic

This is a WONDERFUL edit of A New Hope.

The audio quality, cuts and transitions are excellent; the video quality, cuts and transitions are excellent.

I didn't understand at first why the severed arm in the Cantina was changed to a flipper, but after reading about the changes on here -- "replaced the hand with the hoof like one we see him with in other shots" -- I went back and frame by frame watched for his hand, and... sure enough, his hand is a flipper, not furry nor with fingers: http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/8645/26467704.png ...so with that I say, well done all around!

In any event, I can't seem to readily locate a copy of the Purist edition (which I would like to have, for the sake of completeness in my collection.) It appears to me that the links currently provided at FanEdit.info only have the single layer and dual layer formats of the the standard Revisited version. The is a torrent out there, but it doesn't have any seeders at the moment. Can someone direct me (via pm is also acceptable) to a .dlc of the NTSC format Purist edition?

The audio was good. The video was good. The cuts were seamless. I just dont think there was enough work put in to give more than 5 stars. A good example of a great edit would be Terminator 3: The coming storm, done by Uncanny Antman. Im a huuggge star wars fan and this didnt cut it for me. If the star rating is based on my opinion and liking of the edit, then I did what was asked of me.

I gave this edit a low rating because it was almost the same as the original. Sure, many good effects were put in such as adding extra tie fighters and making the lightsaber blue instead of a greenish tint. But, it wasnt enough to warrant a rating over 5 stars. The changes seemed to be merely touch-ups to the original.

In this very case, I'm a man of few words. I have seen the special edition trilogy on vhs, I saw them again on the 'other' special edition release on dvd, and now Adywan's... ANH Revisited has earned its spot on my shelve right next to his 'official' brothers and sisters, and the other fanedits (ESB 30th anniversary theatrical edition comes to mind).
10/10 hands down! Soooo, Ady, any news on a more detailed ESBR release? :)

Wow. Where to start? How do I begin to write a review on an experience that has given me a feeling I haven't had since I was a child. Watching Adywan's edit I felt like I was seeing Episode IV for the first time. This was the first Fan Edit I've seen, and I can easily say that Adywan has gotten me hooked.

First off, Adywan has done a masterful job of color correction. My jaw dropped in the first 5 minutes, and stayed there until the lights came on. Really, there are just so many things that I loved about this edit that I can't list them all. I'll just highlight a few of my favorite parts;

The Cantina scene. Amazing, well done really. It really captured the feel of the Cantina that I think other edits are missing.
The Greedo scene was awesome. At that point I was just juiced because I knew I was in for a treat.
I loved the shots of the Death Star with the planets.
Adding the wormhole in the falcon's cockpit was a touch of genius!
The final battle was just simply fan-f*%#@!g-tastic. I'm running out of adjectives here, this edit is so good.
And the fact that Chewie gets a medal? Priceless. Adywan has thought of everything.

I'm so very happy that this was the first Fan Edit I saw. I can't say enough. But I can sum it all up;

This is THE definitive version of Star Wars Episode IV. WATCH THIS MOVIE!!

Thank you Adywan, for such an entertaining experience. Your hard work is an inspiration to us all. Please edit Empire Strikes Back!

I'll clarify this from the get-go:

I'm not a big Star Wars fan. I haven't even seen all the prequels, and my "first trilogy" DVD box set (the editions that include the original cuts) is yet to be opened.

So, why did I watch this particular FE (and make it my first comment here)? Word of mouth, of course, and the fact that it got promoted in "a totally new Star Wars experience" terms (read: "curiosity"). So, how did I like it?

For starters: it's the same old experience. It's ANH and feels like ANH. Which is, of course, a good thing for all the fans worldwide. What I consider fatal flaws within the movie and the saga would not only be really hard to fix in a fan edit, but would result in a totally different thing that fans would no doubt hate. But let me say that this feels like ANH much more than the 1997 SE did.

And, as per Adywan's work itself, the word is... WOW! This is way more professional than lots of "real" movies out there. As I'm not as familiar with the source material to notice most of the changes, having watched ANH no more than four times (three the original, one the '97), I had to double-check to try to find the stitches all the time. Unsuccessfully. This is seamless! It's an injustice Adywan is not working as a film editor for a living (in case he isn't, of course). Fans of the saga may spot little things they would prefer to be done other way, as it's usually the case with the "fanboy" genre, but it's all fine with me.

However, since I don't favor CGIed up revisionism, this has not become my favorite ANH. The good old, analogic, model-ridden 1977 original still comes on top. Yet this comes second, and it's far superior to the official Lucasfilm tinkering.

As such, seen not as great SW but as great craftsmanship, I rate this:

Video: 10/10
Audio: 10/10
DVD menu/extras: 10/10
Improvement: 5/10 over the 1977, 10/10 over the 1997 SE

totally agree luggi83 - this edit is so amazing that I'd like as many people as possible to see it, yet sadly a lot of people I know who are real star wars nuts but they don't speak english as fluently to watch these movies.... maybe if revisited gets more and more popularity there will be more than enough possible languages, a fanedit so popular that it gets fanedited by others so to speak :D

looking forward to ESB:R more than anything else concerning star wars

OK, now i've seen this (there's no other word for this) masterpiece, i'm just absolutely fucking impressed...see, the thing is, i first watched the movie and then found the pdf with all the pictures of the changed scenes and stuff...and i think for more than 90% i didn't even realize, that there's something different...just amazing. I wished there was a german version though, i mean i'm used to watch movies in english, but most of my friends here in Austria aren't and i really would like to show your work to them. As a long time Star Wars Fan, i have only one question: How the hell is it possible that GL and Co. weren't able to get to the point like you did? Really man, keep on making SW Fans happy...looking forward to your Version of ESB...so long.

Adywan,

Even though you are male, I am male, and we are both straight, will you have my children anyway? Amazing job. I know that many, including myself are grateful. A New Hope certainly had the most desperate need for this major overhaul. I personally would be pretty content to have your version of 4 and then a nice blu-ray original version of 5 and 6, assuming Lucas ever gets around to releasing that and doesn't spaz out again first in a vain attempt to eradicate the world of the originals. On the other hand, your handiwork on Empire sure would be nice! Especially after teasing me with a trailer for it!

Definitely an awesome edit that makes the SE far better than it originally was. Now, granted, I would have been happier had some more of the SE features been taken out (I'm looking at you, pointless lengthy ride into Mos Eisley), but this edit integrates them much, much better. And damn does the hyperspace blue look amazing as they escape the Death Star. The fight between Vader and Obi Wan is now just ridiculously great. It needed that BGM; I just never realized it until I saw this version. I can't say I miss the Jabba sequence, though I'm sure someone could have animated it better to actually resemble the puppet, instead of just some sort of lumpy blob with eyes.

The extra edits added by adywan that some people have complained about - seriously? They were seamless for the most part. They added to the movie instead of cluttering it up. George Lucas couldn't add in his crap without making it so obvious a blind man could see them; adywan, by contrast, makes them fit wonderfully. And a lot of them are nice touches, like the hyperspace sequence.

However, a few nitpicks:

The jump when Luke activates the light saber for the first time still is noticeable, but I assume there's only so much that can be done about that.

Obi Wan constantly using the title "Darth" during the light saber fight. That has annoyed me endlessly since the prequels and EU established it as a title, not a name. It would have been nice to have "Vader" dubbed in instead.

Otherwise? Freaking. Awesome. And yet George Lucas claims to be unable to do this.

Definitely the first disc to be included in any 'ultimate fan edit' set. Thank you for the time and effort you've put into this and for sharing it with the world. :)

this is without a doubt the best version of "A NEW HOPE" there is !!! (suck it, george ... adywan rules !!!)

i don't see myself watching any other version ever again ... any body should have a chance to watch this.

but there is one little thing i would have loved to see: the reaction of C-3PO, when luke tells the hq that he
lost R2D2 in the final battle (it was a significant part ofthe whole scene ... at least to me, since i was a kid)
... but heck this version rocks. the final battle impressed me the most.

but the lightsaber-duel between OBI WAN and DARTH VADER left me really "jawdropped".
the new music cue really kicks butt and improves the entire dramatic tense of OBI WAN
dying on purpose.

thanks for editing out the "new" jabba"-scene (this CGI-jabba always bugged the hell out of me)

can't wait for THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (but i will, since good work takes time). i already like the teaser a lot.

!!! 10 out of 10 for making a masterpiece a "über-masterpiece" !!!

btw, i inserted the destruction of alderaan into the movie, since i totally loved it ...

If you have problems with the voice acting volume being to low this is how to solve it. Thanks to boon23 for the hint about surround sound.

Problem: Voice acting is low where you can barely hears the actors talking. Sound fx are nice and loud.

Reason: In my case it is because I do not have surround sound. I only have stereo.

Solution:

Download http://ac3filter.net/ and start AC3Filter. Go to the tab "Mixer" and increase the "Voice" volume. I think I fiddled with other things too but I don't recall. As such I have put screen shots of all my settings on the attachment section at the bottom of this page, http://sites.google.com/site/tinpham/downloads/my-computer-setup (whoever benefits from this please post what setting were changed).

Then you use a player like VLC and it AC3Filter will intercept and fix the sound for you.

Again this is a great film and my co-worker loved that he could let his sone experience star warrs for the first time as the real star wars with updated effects and no alteration to the story.

Solution:

Download http://ac3filter.net/ and start AC3Filter. Go to the tab “Mixer” and increase the “Voice” volume. I think I fiddled with other things too but I don’t recall.

HOLY CRAP!!! I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said. This is absolutely incredible. I never dreamed such things were possible. On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 38.

This is an extremely well done effort. Can't really add more to what has been said, except that I enjoyed the menus and extra features. Also enjoyed the credits; especially the bit about your wife watching soaps! This is what fan editing is all about. Thank you.

Adywan, you have given me back a highlight of my youth. Finally got around to watching this the other day and all I can say is bravo. When I was a kid, Star Wars was a magical experience but since the Special Editions came out, the films have lost some of their spark.
Star Wars Revisited is now the definitive version I will be watching from now on, it made me feel the way I did when the original first came out, the lightsaber fight, the Ties vs Falcon dogfight and most of all The Battle of Yarvin are exciting again. George Lucas take note, why, with all your resources and money, could you not have "fixed" your own film the way this "fan" has?
Adywan, I bow my head to you and I look forward to Empire Revisited, the shots you have released to date look amazing. Please say it is not far away.

all the Adywan releases are prime quality. So probably, while turning it to a DVD, your programs mixed the channels wrong. You should not encode the audio at all (as it is 5.1 ac-3 already) and use this for your DVD. But you would be better off in acquiring the true SL release or even the DL release.

I love this fan edit but had issues with hearing the voice acting over the sound effects. Especially during action sequences like where the Falcon is stuck in the tractor beam. Did anybody else have this issue and if so how is it fixed? I tried this on multiple computers (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Ubuntu Linux) all with the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I watched with VLC and HP's own built in DVD watching tool.

The version I downloaded,
Size 1.75gb Approx (iso which burned on to DVD came to abotu 4.2 gb)
ReLeaSe DaTe 19.01.2008
ViDeo
  auDio AC3 448kbps 5.1 DOLBY DIGITAL
  CoDeC XVID
  FRaMe RaTe 23.976

What can I say that hasn't been said? I'm late in coming to this site. Two things: the re-arranging of the scene at Obi Wan's house seemed really awkward as did some parts of the re-arranging of the final battle.

That's it, I'm done with perceived flaws.
I've seen it multiple times, my kid has seen it multiple times, and we will continue to see it multiple more times. It's just great.

Just watched this again over the weekend. Absolutely unreal. Adywan has created a better, more complete and more satisfying version of Episode IV than any of us could have ever dreamed of. In the process, he has redefined the meaning of the fanedit and set a whole new standard for the community. For me, the icing on this extremely delicious cake has to be the Battle of Yavin. Using some jawdroppingly authentic homemade special effects, he has clarified the geography of the battle, adding a whole new level of tension and excitement as the Death Star slowly closes in on the imperiled Rebel base. Because of this, the emotion of the sequence is also ratched up a few notches and is relentless in bringing us to the edge of our seats as Luke destroys the Death Star at the absolute last possible millisecond. And if the sight of a loyal wookiee getting long overdue recognition for his heroics doesn't bring you to a tear or atleast make you a little misty-eyed. then you are one cold-hearted cynic indeed.

So, cheers to Adywan, a lone Brit who has put the whole Lucasfilm Empire to shame from the comfort of his living room!

Cannot wait for Empire!
