OK, now i’ve seen this (there’s no other word for this) masterpiece, i’m just absolutely fucking impressed…see, the thing is, i first watched the movie and then found the pdf with all the pictures of the changed scenes and stuff…and i think for more than 90% i didn’t even realize, that there’s something different…just amazing. I wished there was a german version though, i mean i’m used to watch movies in english, but most of my friends here in Austria aren’t and i really would like to show your work to them. As a long time Star Wars Fan, i have only one question: How the hell is it possible that GL and Co. weren’t able to get to the point like you did? Really man, keep on making SW Fans happy…looking forward to your Version of ESB…so long.

Even though you are male, I am male, and we are both straight, will you have my children anyway? Amazing job. I know that many, including myself are grateful. A New Hope certainly had the most desperate need for this major overhaul. I personally would be pretty content to have your version of 4 and then a nice blu-ray original version of 5 and 6, assuming Lucas ever gets around to releasing that and doesn’t spaz out again first in a vain attempt to eradicate the world of the originals. On the other hand, your handiwork on Empire sure would be nice! Especially after teasing me with a trailer for it!

Definitely an awesome edit that makes the SE far better than it originally was. Now, granted, I would have been happier had some more of the SE features been taken out (I’m looking at you, pointless lengthy ride into Mos Eisley), but this edit integrates them much, much better. And damn does the hyperspace blue look amazing as they escape the Death Star. The fight between Vader and Obi Wan is now just ridiculously great. It needed that BGM; I just never realized it until I saw this version. I can’t say I miss the Jabba sequence, though I’m sure someone could have animated it better to actually resemble the puppet, instead of just some sort of lumpy blob with eyes.

The extra edits added by adywan that some people have complained about – seriously? They were seamless for the most part. They added to the movie instead of cluttering it up. George Lucas couldn’t add in his crap without making it so obvious a blind man could see them; adywan, by contrast, makes them fit wonderfully. And a lot of them are nice touches, like the hyperspace sequence.

However, a few nitpicks:

The jump when Luke activates the light saber for the first time still is noticeable, but I assume there’s only so much that can be done about that.

Obi Wan constantly using the title “Darth” during the light saber fight. That has annoyed me endlessly since the prequels and EU established it as a title, not a name. It would have been nice to have “Vader” dubbed in instead.

Otherwise? Freaking. Awesome. And yet George Lucas claims to be unable to do this.

Definitely the first disc to be included in any ‘ultimate fan edit’ set. Thank you for the time and effort you’ve put into this and for sharing it with the world.

this is without a doubt the best version of “A NEW HOPE” there is !!! (suck it, george … adywan rules !!!)

i don’t see myself watching any other version ever again … any body should have a chance to watch this.

but there is one little thing i would have loved to see: the reaction of C-3PO, when luke tells the hq that he
lost R2D2 in the final battle (it was a significant part ofthe whole scene … at least to me, since i was a kid)
… but heck this version rocks. the final battle impressed me the most.

but the lightsaber-duel between OBI WAN and DARTH VADER left me really “jawdropped”.
the new music cue really kicks butt and improves the entire dramatic tense of OBI WAN
dying on purpose.

thanks for editing out the “new” jabba”-scene (this CGI-jabba always bugged the hell out of me)

can’t wait for THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (but i will, since good work takes time). i already like the teaser a lot.

!!! 10 out of 10 for making a masterpiece a “über-masterpiece” !!!

btw, i inserted the destruction of alderaan into the movie, since i totally loved it …

If you have problems with the voice acting volume being to low this is how to solve it. Thanks to boon23 for the hint about surround sound.

Problem: Voice acting is low where you can barely hears the actors talking. Sound fx are nice and loud.

Reason: In my case it is because I do not have surround sound. I only have stereo.

Solution:

Download http://ac3filter.net/ and start AC3Filter. Go to the tab “Mixer” and increase the “Voice” volume. I think I fiddled with other things too but I don’t recall. As such I have put screen shots of all my settings on the attachment section at the bottom of this page, http://sites.google.com/site/tinpham/downloads/my-computer-setup (whoever benefits from this please post what setting were changed).

Then you use a player like VLC and it AC3Filter will intercept and fix the sound for you.

Again this is a great film and my co-worker loved that he could let his sone experience star warrs for the first time as the real star wars with updated effects and no alteration to the story.

Adywan, you have given me back a highlight of my youth. Finally got around to watching this the other day and all I can say is bravo. When I was a kid, Star Wars was a magical experience but since the Special Editions came out, the films have lost some of their spark.
Star Wars Revisited is now the definitive version I will be watching from now on, it made me feel the way I did when the original first came out, the lightsaber fight, the Ties vs Falcon dogfight and most of all The Battle of Yarvin are exciting again. George Lucas take note, why, with all your resources and money, could you not have “fixed” your own film the way this “fan” has?
Adywan, I bow my head to you and I look forward to Empire Revisited, the shots you have released to date look amazing. Please say it is not far away.

all the Adywan releases are prime quality. So probably, while turning it to a DVD, your programs mixed the channels wrong. You should not encode the audio at all (as it is 5.1 ac-3 already) and use this for your DVD. But you would be better off in acquiring the true SL release or even the DL release.

I love this fan edit but had issues with hearing the voice acting over the sound effects. Especially during action sequences like where the Falcon is stuck in the tractor beam. Did anybody else have this issue and if so how is it fixed? I tried this on multiple computers (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Ubuntu Linux) all with the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I watched with VLC and HP’s own built in DVD watching tool.

The version I downloaded,
Size 1.75gb Approx (iso which burned on to DVD came to abotu 4.2 gb)

What can I say that hasn’t been said? I’m late in coming to this site. Two things: the re-arranging of the scene at Obi Wan’s house seemed really awkward as did some parts of the re-arranging of the final battle.

That’s it, I’m done with perceived flaws.
I’ve seen it multiple times, my kid has seen it multiple times, and we will continue to see it multiple more times. It’s just great.

Just watched this again over the weekend. Absolutely unreal. Adywan has created a better, more complete and more satisfying version of Episode IV than any of us could have ever dreamed of. In the process, he has redefined the meaning of the fanedit and set a whole new standard for the community. For me, the icing on this extremely delicious cake has to be the Battle of Yavin. Using some jawdroppingly authentic homemade special effects, he has clarified the geography of the battle, adding a whole new level of tension and excitement as the Death Star slowly closes in on the imperiled Rebel base. Because of this, the emotion of the sequence is also ratched up a few notches and is relentless in bringing us to the edge of our seats as Luke destroys the Death Star at the absolute last possible millisecond. And if the sight of a loyal wookiee getting long overdue recognition for his heroics doesn’t bring you to a tear or atleast make you a little misty-eyed. then you are one cold-hearted cynic indeed.

So, cheers to Adywan, a lone Brit who has put the whole Lucasfilm Empire to shame from the comfort of his living room!

Cannot wait for Empire!

Wow! I loved the subtitle track that tells me all the edited things. But without knowing any of the edits I would say that the most noticeable changes were: huge improvement to the animations in the cantina scene and the missing cgi jabba. Thank you so much for those! I appreciate that the action is intensified, it makes it a bit more in line with the prequel trilogy. I bet this is the version that Lucas himself uses to masturbate.

Download the Purist Edition. Nearly all of your problems with the edit are addressed – no added music, no new TIE fighter or Death Star reveals, Ben’s hut scene restored to theatrical edit … I think that’s about all the differeneces from the standard “Revisited” version.

Wow, I don’t know how you managed to create all that stuff you did, but what a monumental effort! Like a few other people, I didn’t like a few things (the Tie fighters appearing in the final battle) but wow, you’ve made so many amazing tweaks that we all need to be asking what on Earth they were thinking when they did the Special Editions. You made so many cool little changes that I’m sure I missed half of them, but then I guess that’s why watching this seemed to smooth because I wasn’t drawn to looking at little flaws.
The only real problem is that we all have to wait so long for your Empire Revisited! I can’t even bear to think how long we have to wait for Jedi. *sobs* Now that’s something I REALLY want to see fixed by a guy with your talent, I personally think it needs WAY more doing to it than A New Hope or Empire.

Well, if I could give more than five stars for effort, you’d get 10. Call me hard to please, though, but there are some things I just don’t think are improvements, and some things I think are inferior to what you’ve replaced. Some of the alterations you’ve made just aren’t necessary, because literally perfecting every perceived flaw doesn’t necessarily improve it. Making the Death Star interiors completely monchrome, tinting the inside of the escape pod blue, tinting the Death Star gun area green when lasers fire and other things like that annoyed me a bit. I did love the Greedo face animation and the Cantina is vastly improved, but for every improvement you’ve made, you’ve also committed the “crime” so many of us have accused Lucas of doing, which is making changes for the sake of it, and adding things just because you can.

All the instances of added music spoil the scenes you’ve mixed it into… the sabre duel, the Death Star conference room, they were better without it. The re-editing of the scene Ben’s house doesn’t work, because it breaks the flow of the original edit. If you had the longer takes to work with, what you were trying to do could be achieved, but it doesn’t work as it is. The big TIE reveal is over-crowded. Technically you’re brilliant, but you’ve overcooked it. The electricity on the torture droid isn’t necessary. And colouring Vader’s dark red eyes black… why? They weren’t accidentally red before, and the end of Episode III does kind of show why they’re red from the inside.

Ah well, I’m sounding harsh, and I don’t mean to, but as I said, for every improvement, there is an additional flaw. Less is more I think, like fixing jump cuts with R2, adding the Falcon firing back, adding hyperspace outside the cockpit, removing repeated Stormtrooper/Rebel soldier deaths and so on… now those things, as an editor by profession myself, I really appreciate.

Cheers bro, its funny how a few little changes can make a big difference. Though the few changes that were major were amazing. The only complaint I can think of is not including that wolf guy in the cantina when they first go in.

I’m not a big SW fan but this edit made me feel like a kid again. Can’t wait for ESB and ROTJ, particularly ROTJ since that’s my favorite one.

THIS DVD IS AMAZING! It’s the Star Wars Special Edition that we all wanted but Lucas won’t give us. All the fixes are great, and the new additions and effects are top notch. Some people are undoubtedly going to be a little put off by some of the changes, but lucky for them the purist edition is available as an alternative! You have no reason not to treat yourself to this amazing labor of love that Adywan has been so kind as to bless us with. This truly sets a new standard for Star Wars home video releases, so George Lucas had better be taking notes!
