Major Cuts/Edits/Changes

  • 01. Added a new title crawl (developed from an After Effects “Star Wars title crawl” sequence originally created by Taolar)
  • 02. Major cuts/edits to the Anakin, Padme, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Mace, General Grievous, and Palpatine characters
  • 03. Tried to edit the Obi-Wan/Anakin relationship to be more akin to a elder brother or friend relationship (much less of this constant “my young padawan” or “yes Master” crap)
  • 04. Count Dooku is no longer “Darth Tyranous” and has absolutely NO connection to the Sith – he is still a Jedi (abit a rebel Jedi) in my Prequel fanedits
  • 05. Dooku’s lightsaber has been rotoscoped purple instead of “Sith red”
  • 06. Removed the subplots of “Jedi not being able to marry” and “Anakin keeping his marriage to Padme is a secret”
  • 07. Re-edited Anakin’s post-nightmare talk with Padme to heighten their relationship and remove poor acting
  • 08. Removed scene of General Grevious arriving on Utopa and speaking with Sidious
  • 09. Edited the “Jedi spying on Palpatine” subplot to better reflect the Jedis’ suspicions of Palpatine, increase Anakin’s anger toward the Council, and remove any mention of the “Chosen One” prophecy
  • 10. Added the deleted “Plot to Destroy the Jedi?” scene back into the film
  • 11. Trimmed the “Opera House” scenes a bit to remove Anakin being caught about spying on Palaptine and to remove the dialogue regarding midiclorians
  • 12. Added the deleted “A Stirring in the Senate – Bail’s Office” scene back into the film
  • 13. Re-edited the “Mace VS Palpatine” duel (along with the following “Anakin’s choice” scenes) to remove redundant elements and increase drama
  • 14. Re-edited the “Order 66″ sequence to include the Clonetroopers attack on the Jedi Temple and Anakin’s encounter with the younglings
  • 15. Rotoscoped Yoda’s lightsaber to be purple
  • 16. Removed Obi-Wan/Yoda’s attack on the clonetroopers outside the Temple
  • 17. Added additional children screams to the audio during the hologram playback of Anakin attacking the Jedi Temple
  • 18. Completely removed the “Yoda VS Sidious” duel from the film
  • 19. Re-edited the final battle into a single duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin
  • 20. Removes Padme “losing the will to live” reference
  • 21. Padme now gives birth to only Luke
  • 22. Cut and re-edited the “Birth of Darth Vader” sequence to remove overtly ’stupid’ plotpoints
  • 23. Replaced the shots of the WIP Death Star from Vader’s final scenes and replaced it with the planet Coruscant
  • 24. Film now ends with Padme, Darth Vader, and Obi-Wan/Luke sequences
  • 25. Added “Faneditor’s credit” to the end credits

  1. This is now my preferred cut of the film. I’m interested to see the editor’s take on RotJ to align the continuity with this and the edits of Leia’s birth.

  2. 9 / 10

One of the best-ever fan edits of Episode III I’ve ever had the pleasure to see. Intelligent cuts made the pace of the film flow tremendously better, and even the addition of a couple of deleted sequences were much welcome. Of all the things I enjoyed the most, it had to be the final duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Edited into one continuous sequence, I was fairly gobsmacked at how much better it played out.

Only two things did not work as well for me: the first being (after the insertion of the first so-called “Birth of the Rebellion” scene) the jump to Padmé’s apartment (with a sudden passage of time) and, more importantly, the Emperor not appearing on Mustafar to collect the wounded Anakin. Other than those two points, everything else about this edit was near perfect.

  4. I Really Loved the Phantom Menace edit by Jasonn. I Also liked this one except one thing that bothered me is that there is no Leia at the end :(

  5. Great job JasonN
I also would have left Leia at he end (or totaly cut Padme naming the twins) but I know your reason for that.
    :)

  6. Excellent cut!

No Yoda VS Sidious is great!
No Qui gon jin special training, good choice.

Removal of “Ive got the high ground” works very well, because with no dialogue in that spot, the cutting off of Anakins legs becomes a surprise … similar to “captain obvious” lines, this had hurt the action by giving the audience a heads up that the action is about to come to a conclusion.

I read the reviews here before downloading, and i thought i would not enjoy the ending because of the listed removals above.
Namely, cutting the Emperors scene on Mustafar and also cutting Leias birth.

I was pleasantly surprised however to find out that i very much support these cuts! I found upon watching that they both worked very well. First of all the cut of the Emperor on Mustafar works just fine because we have an equal scene of them returning to corusant with Anakin all burnt up arriving on a hover stretcher. I dont think anything is gained by seeing the Emperor actually going to find him. So that worked for me. Second the no Leia birth works fine because we dont need to know this information yet. The prequel trilogy is a spoiler for Empire strikes back by showing us that Anakin is Luke Skywalkers father. I dont think that particular spoiler could be avoided because its one of the basic points of the prequels. However leias origin doesnt need to be spoiled at this point in the over all narrative. I know its not a real spoiler because everyone already knows she is lukes sister, but in the narrative i feel that it works not showing her. I didnt miss it when it was gone and the shorter end sequence was welcome. It was much more to the point. Setting up luke on tattooine i think was the essential part and thats whats focused on. Just because we dont see leias birth and adoption doesnt mean it didnt happen.

Also the shorter Vader standing up after getting his breather works well.
Also switching the Death Star for corusant is fine by me … but i dont think that its needed .. what is gained by the switch? There can be millions of reasons why a Death Star could take a long time being built for the first time and then a short time being built the second time around. (Politics, Economics, Technology issues ect.. ect..)

Because im a perfectionist im not ready to say that this is the end all for Episode 3 cuts. For example jasonn’s Episode 1 and the phantom editors episode 2 are currently my preferred ep1 and ep2’s. Im not even looking for another ep1 or 2 because i have those.
However this episode 3 is only 98% of what im looking for, and i still think there is room to tweek and that a slightly better film is still possible.

Note, this is still an awesome cut and should not be overlooked!
Yes you! if you are thinking this edit isnt good enough for you, think again, this is a great edit and you should watch it.
This edit goes very far in its cutting and redeeming of this movie.

Things that could still be worked on to gain my own particular liking would be…
removal of seeing the little buz droids.
somehow fixing Windu vs Sidious i dont like the jumping around by sidious and the stand off at the window still bothers me its either the dialogue or something else but it still doesnt work for me, and sadly i do not have a suggestion for fixing it.
I dont like that there is a hologram of the Emperor and Anakin available to Obiwan and yoda to watch … shouldnt that conversation have been private?
Also the word younglings is still mentioned a few times im not sure if its removable.
I think its possible to tweek either the order of the scenes or the dialogue at the beginning regarding Anakins fall to the Emperors side. I have not seen it yet, but apparently CORGICAR’s cut of the film does that and improves on Anakins narrative that way.

One other thing i would have liked would be padme dieing at Anakins hand. She wakes up for only 1 second to say something to Obiwan and also she names Luke … i think her dialogue could have been removed and made to appear as though she was dead from the time of Anakins choke. I feel that would have been more effective.

Anyways this was a great cut, dont worry too much about what i think could have made it better (unless you plan on editing this again that is), its still 98% of what im looking for and its a great cut.

10 out of 10 AWESOME job! Congrats!

  7. You can read my review of JasonN’s Attack of the Federation edit of TPM for an exact copy of my review of this movie. I loved this edit through and through.

My one niggle is showing Coruscant instead of the Death Star, but I understand the reasoning behind it, so it is whatever for me.

10/10 for a movie I can watch without getting mad…thank you!!!

  8. Oh, and another thing…

The way JasonN ended the battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan was freaking awesome! The whole fight sequence was edited into one battle, with the stupid saber-twirling and force use taken out, but the way he ended the battle actually threw me for a loop…I LOVED it!!!

If I could give it ANOTHER 10/10 just for the way the fight ended, I would!

And, I thought keeping Leia out of the picture was a great decision…I could go on, but I would be here for hours lol
