Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original: It’s shorter, most of the silly sequences are removed. This film now gives the Devil his due, in a matter of speaking. It’s a dark superhero movie with less silly, campy moments. Here are the list of edits
* Shorter running time (1 hr. 56 min.)
* The opening scene of DD in the church is removed. The film begins with Matt in the court room with Quesada.
* Origin story is spread out throughout the film and is much, much shorter.
* The Matt/Elektra playground fight is a lot shorter and a lot less ridiculous.
* The Kingpin’s hip-hop introduction is cut.
* That horrible CGI shot of DD kicking Bullseye is a lot shorter.
* That horrid Evanescence song is removed from the Elektra training scene. It is now replaced with “Session” by Linkin Park, which fits the sequence very well. Before everyone moans about Linkin Park, this song is instrumental.
* Most of Matt’s voice overs are removed, except for the stuff towards the end.
* This is kind of trivial, but it always bothered me: When Ben Urich hits delete on his keyboard to erase his story, he taps it once and erases the whole story, rather than holding it down. I have now changed it so it looks like he holds the button down. It’s stupid, but it always annoyed me.
* A few little cuts and trims and re-ordering of shots, to keep the pace and make everything work.

This is a good edit but I have a few comments.
1. After the Matt/Elektra fight when he checks his watch and realizes that he’s late you can tell that there’s a cut. It’s not a sharp cut but it is noticeable.
2. When Foggy calls Urich when he’s at the morgue the sound goes out for a few seconds and then the Linkin Park song starts and we cut to Elektra’s training. The audio also goes out at the very end of the film when Urich says “Go get’em Matt” or something to that effect. After he says it the sound goes out and we see Matt nod. After he’s nodded the sound comes back.
3. I know you think that the Linkin Park song works better but it doesn’t. As I was watching it I couldn’t help but feel like the movie was on mute and the song was playing on the stereo. The song just didn’t fit right but the Evanescence song, which I like btw, did fit right.
4. You list two running times here, 113 minutes and 116 minutes, but the film actually runs for 111 minutes and thirty-five seconds. Just as the end credits start to roll the film ends with the end credits missing.
Besides that I thought it was a pretty good edit.

I just finished watching this. I am one of the minority that actually liked the original movie, but I do think this edit is an improvement. It tells the story more directly and the tone is more serious.
I appreciate the shorter origin. I enjoyed the scenes of the young Matt exploring his new abilities and taking care of the bullies, but they don’t drive the story and their absence is not missed.
The editor’s idea of what is “silly” must be somewhat different than mine since he did not remove the scene of Bullseye on the airplane with the annoying old lady. Yes, it was funny in a sick kind of way, but like the scenes of the young Matt, it contributed little to the story and I would have been glad to see it gone.
Finally, I am not a big fan of the original music in Elektra’s training scene, but I don’t think the new music is much of an improvement, except that it is instrumental. Part of the problem was that it was just too loud. There must be some perfect piece of music out there, but I don’t know what it is.

Evanescence sucks. I suggest just a random action song of sorts for the Elektra scene. Anyhow thanks for getting rid of Evanescence.

congratulations on making this film bearable.
i liked the atmosphere you teased out of the movie andonly wish you had gone much further: cutting out even more of the ridiculousness and gooey romance. starting with the courtroom scene and leaking the backstory slowly truly worked.
impressive.
and very brave: having to watch this movie over and over, closely, might have done you permanent harm.

This is less silly, but as long as Ben Affleck plays Daredevil it can never be really good. You tried and I think this was an ok version. Better than the original.
