This was hilarious and often brilliant. It has a couple flaws, but it’s very entertaining (BIG SPOILERS follow).
Technical quality – 10/10 – can’t really comment on A/V issues as they were supposed to be there.
Editing – 10/10 – just incredible.
Presentation – 10/10 – the cover art was great and the menu was nice. Brody at the theater was a clever and idea and pulled off well.
Entertainment – 8/10 – so brilliant. The added scenes from Jaws 2, the tourists arriving, the redesigned beach attack, the flashbacks during the scar discussion, Jaws shaking the shark cage, that orca whale at the end that took things personally, the new music, and all the other stuff I haven’t mentioned… just brilliant! There are only two things I didn’t like: firstly, sometimes when songs played or even at other times the sound effects were muted. Regardless of whether this is something that is in “grindhouse” movies, it’s very annoying. Secondly, the music during the beach attack. Just didn’t work for me. Otherwise, incredible job. You had brilliant ideas and you transferred them to the screen even more brilliantly.
Overall – 9/10

I absolutely loved this! The only thing I thought odd at the time was the insertion of some Jaws 2 clips - why would Brody have another marine biologist check out the dead orca when Hooper is already on the island? - but it became clear at the end and was just perfect. It looked appropriately grimy and had some great additions - the opening music was excellent and the 'missing reel' really worked. Loved the deleted scenes that were incorporated, such as finding the first victim on the beach. It won't replace my DVD of 'Jaws', but of course it isn't meant to. But this is probably the version I will show to family and friends for a laugh. First rate!

Awesome! I thought Jaws was an ok movie when i first saw it...but was never a huge fan of it, can't say why really it just never struck a chord with me like some films do.

But I downloaded this after seeing "The War of The Stars" and so wanted to see the Sharksploitation to complete the grindhouse doublebill.

I love this incarnation of the film - and the look of it, the added music and altered ending! awesome! I watch this version over and over, its just peachy!

overall 10/10

This is a GREAT deal of fun. Our esteemed editor has really captured the tone of 1970s B-flicks here...with an obvious nod to the Tarantino/Rodriguez Grindhouse release of a few years ago.

The menu, the drive-in intro, and the film’s music and editing (and all the cracks and pops in the “film”) are all incredibly impressive and a lot of fun. Stand out scenes include the titles, the opening attack, the shark hunt scene (hands down my fave), and the climactic moments at the end.

The minor issues I had with this come down to story. This seems to be a running problem in fan edits. “Consequences” is a word I’d like to see more fan editors become better acquainted with. The surfer girl/water skiing scene just fades away with no consequences. Also, each day has an on-screen "Day 1," "Day 2," etc. appear. This adds nothing to the story, and--as the characters aren't working against the clock--it is simply distracting and DEtracts from the story. About half way through, perhaps later, we get documentary-style footage telling us about sharks and such. This comes in way too late in the movie and didn’t seem necessary to bridge the two parts of the frolicking people in the beach scene it interrupts.

Story weakness was my fear for the (brilliant) ending. See, I had watched pieces of the movie before sitting down watching all of it, and I was delighted to find that the new ending is indeed foreshadowed. And foreshadowed very nicely…and called back beautifully. I actually applauded.

The weaknesses are minor. This is hands down the smartest, funnest, most technically strong and most creative fan edit I've seen to date.

Watched it! Loved it!

I thought I would hate this Edit when I first heard of it, as Jaws is one of my favourite films, but I absolutely loved it. A great way to merge the deleted scenes without drawing too much attention to their lower quality. I always liked the deleted scenes and it's good to finally see them in the film.
I also loved the music choices and how they were used, all except one. As much as I love Unforgiven III, I didn't think it fit. Maybe after seeing it a couple more times I'll change my mind on that.

Overall this was great. An excellent take on a classic film. Thanks The Man Behind the Mask.

[SPOILER INFO!] Well that was just good fun TMBTM! I love the old fashioned angle on this plus the grindhouse effect. Except why the killer whale!! Ahhh! I will admit it came as a surprise though. I was wondering what was going to happen since the gas tank in mouth setup had been cut. But on that note, the one part of the movie prior to the end that confused me and seemed out of place was the killer whale stuff that you added in midway.

Overall great edit. I had to give you 8/10 though due to killer whale confusion.

Behind the times as usual, but my goodness was this worth the wait. For this review, bear in mind that I watched WotS first. I do know this one was released first but...what can you do?

As with War of the Stars, a lot of the cuts here worked fine. The only scene I remember missing was the whole "You yell barracuda...but you yell shark" scene, but everything else flowed fine. The opening credits to the first attack was very effective. The end, which I won't spoil (since it wasn't his sled) floored me...I disctintly remember being ready to fall asleep (not because the edit was boring...it was quite late when I watched this) and the end had me cheering. I really wasn't sure how you were going to end it, but it was brilliant. I'd also like to applaud you for the placement of the missing reel...that was really the only scene I didn't like in Jaws, and now it's gone. Cheers!

Two additions I didn't really care for: the scene with Quint harassing the kid in the music store and the alternate version of Hooper's arrival with the guy babbling all over the dock. The first didn't really add to the story, and the second was just annoying. The version that was used in the film was better in my opinion.

Overall, an excellent effort. The presentation was great, video and audio were suitably crappy (in a good way). As with War of the Stars, if the original Jaws had been released in a similar form to this, it still would have been a decent film. Maybe not the summer blockbuster it had become, but still a damn fine effort. Speaking of which, a damn fine effort from TMBTM once again,

Really enjoyed this one. There were a couple of negatives about it for me (too much [sometimes distracting] grain, music choices I personally didn't like), but overall, top notch stuff. Some of the additions were pretty funny, too. And all of it was clever, which people fully expect in a TMBTM edit. :) Anyone who's a fan of the original, or even just wants to see a fun, original movie experience, should by all means watch it...right now! Seems I rated it long ago and forgot to review it (typical of me), and I think I gave it 9/10.

Finally watched it and I was very pleased with what I got. Great feeling for what works and how it could play out...just so entertaining. And the fact that this really feels like a new movie is something special. And both this one and the original are worth seeing more times! Won't give the full 10, as it wasn't perfect, but a 9 and a work that TMBTM should be damn proud of.

Wow. This is a truly amazing fan edit. it is clear that you put an immense amount of time and effort into this. The addition of footage to Quint's story about the USS Indianapolis actually seemed to make the proceeding whale cries more eerie somehow. The ending was absolutely shocking and i burst out with laughter. This edit is flawlessly executed, it feels professionally unprofessional which is not an easy feeling to accomplish. 10 out of 10, sir. I enjoyed this more than the original.

Everythings been said...I will add just two points, 'I think it is too long for a mockery' still trying to working that one out...The music, it's great the cage building scene is teriffic.....in fact that just leaves me the #10 star at the top to click on.

Darned good cut! It's as if we're peeking into an alternate universe where Steven Spielberg ended up making a schlocky B-movie instead of a classic. In this universe, Jaws was likely met with success, but the film lacked the staying power to propel Spielberg beyond B-movies. Instead, he'd likely go on to direct such films as "Quest for the Stolen Ark" and "Private Ryan Must be Saved!", never getting much critical acclaim but building somewhat of a cult fanbase for his low-budget, crass, but endearingly cheesy films. Excellent edit all around!

Simply awesome!
I'd still like a second audio track though, using the alternative "surfer girl" scene and with music strictly from the 70's or prior.

I’d still like a second audio track though, using the alternative “surfer girl” scene and with music strictly from the 70’s or prior.

After so much hype I expected something that would suck me right in, but that never happened. While I can see the fun, I think it is too long for a mockery.

My first review, I have to say I LOVED this edit...Loved the suprise ending and the Benchley touch with another fishy er mammal character. This Grindhouse experience ties a lot together and gives the audience a whole other experience to the Benchleyverse that was unexpected. Only wish would be to use period music rather than music of today. Bust still awesome.

Wow. This is a first for me. Normally I go after Fanedits of films I thought came close to greatness (or sometimes goodness) that could benefit from a little extra work. This morning I watched Terminator 3 The Coming Storm and gave my first 10/10 for the vast improvements it made over the original. But even that left a film that wasn't great, just much better than the original.

Jaws was never a film that needed reworking. It is not a film that needs any sort of recommendation. Despite those two very important factors this is the only Fanedit I would actually give to somebody and say "Watch this. You have to watch this"! A radically different film despite the fact that on the whole it consists of the same footage and plot and doesn't drastically alter the story.

Spielberg makes great films because he understands the language of cinema. He is a master of the B-movie and gets to make them with ridiculous budgets (so it's a shame he hasn't made one in a while).

The Man Behind The Mask also understands the language of cinema and has taken Spielberg's highly polished B-movie and made it look like it probably would have without the studio budget, cobbling together material from other sources to bolster the film in a way that is totally consistent with the feel of the film (the list of sources boggles my mind). The lame shark effects actually work better in this version because of what TMBTM was aiming for. Sod showing a copy of this to Spielberg because he's already made a masterful shark movie. Someone should show it to Quentin Tarantino so that he'll know what Grindhouse should have been and why Death Proof was such a lame turd (loved Planet Terror though, which shares many similarities with this cut).

Two minor gripes - first, the scratching effect is overused IMHO. I loved the graininess of the footage and the blur that crept in from time to time, but the artificial artefacts and scratches were so crisp that they just looked false and forced. Kinda brought me out of the film a little. The other gripe is the use of the "missing reel" gimmick. The flow of the film suggests there's only one scene missing, which isn't much for a single reel (not too big a problem though).

Without wanting to give anything away I feel that the alternative "surfer girl" scene on the bonus material is the better of the two and will hopefully be included in a future release.

As it stands, I will be wasting no time in burning this to disk and handing it about to all my mates (who already own a copy of the original, of course) so that they can experience the sheer delight of this new cut of the film. I honestly can't wait for the next Fanedit (or Faneditor) to try something so bold.

JAWS - The Sharksploitation Edit by THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK

review by boon23

Prologue:
I feel I am a bit late to the party, yet I did not get to watching this fanedit until just today. The last time I watched JAWS is about 5 years ago, so I could get in fresh (which was for this fanedit not so necessary though). Now everyone so far was praising this fanedit, which kind of held my expectations for it very high. I was watching the PAL DVD.

As for all my reviews: this is just my personal opinion of this fanedit. I cannot tell anybody else, if he or she will experience it in the same way or the opposite. So my review is not objective and does not reflect the opinion of fanedit.org.

!!!!This review contains heavy spoilers!!!

The edit:
It's as special as it gets, from the very intro beginning (including a cute Rob Schneider scene) to the very ending (where I was almost waiting for someone to yell "Willy"). This fanedit was not at all created to be taken seriously and that is the fun of it. It takes a masterpiece of movie history and turns it not just to trash, but to an over-the-top watching experience that only works so well, BECAUSE the original is such a well known masterpiece. It has a few thrilling moments, yet thrill is not what it is about. This is about entertainment and surprise. Surprise what happens next and how. It contains loads of gruesome shark killings and also loads of painfully long and akward scenes. But the mix is just right. Now I could have done with less artificial dust that in dark scenes almost looked like it was snowing and I can't say this added anything to the movie that a washed out look would not have added probably better. Yet this is about the only true complaint I have. Other than that there is a scene with a sailor outside, where there is no background nice, which sounds a bit strange and the deleted scenes are a bit too clearly noticable. The orca ending came as surprise and was needed to really get the final blow to tell me that I am NOT AT ALL WATCHING JAWS.
This is a special fanedit and as such it is a piece of fanediting art to me. Daring. Creative. And an incredible load of work. I bow deeply to TMBTM for the concept and the final edit.
Did I love it? No. But I liked it a lot.
editing: 10 of 10
entertainment: 8 of 10 (original 10 of 10)

Image and video quality:
Video quality was good, the image has too much artificial dirt IMO. The deleted scenes were too clearly spottable.
Video quality: 6 of 10

Audio editing and audio quality:
The audio editing was very good, there was one scene, where background noieses should have been added.
audio editing: 10 of 10
sound quality: 7 of 10
resulting in a 9 of 10 for overall audio

presentation:
The DVD comes with a still but nice menu with no sound. The presentation of a drive-in cinema is hillarious. The font for the intro and end credits is something to get used to. It's neatly animated in the beginning. The bonus features are nice addition, although not too much. The chapter menu is very simple. There is fitting cover art attached.
Overall the presentation of this fanedit is very nice.
resulting in a 9 of 10 for overall presentation

Final result: 9 of 10
I recommend watching this fanedit.

This is an amazing edit. 100% entertaining. The only complaint I would have would be the use of contemporary music. I think you should have only used rock tracks from the 70's. (This echos what French_Toast wrote above.)

I watched this last night with my wife and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The ending was absolutely perfect and 12 hours later, it's all I can think about. The whole movie is alot of fun and I just can't find fault with it. Though I haven't really tried to be honest. After watching this movie, you wont be trying to find fault with it, you'll just be happy and satisfied. HOW LONG has it been since you finished a movie and felt happy and satisfied? Thanks TMBTM sir. Excellent. 10/10.

It's a great fanedit, probably the best I have watched so far.
Nothing to add on the praise side.

But there is one major criticism I'd like to make : the overall lack of consistency in the choice of the music. Although each reworked scene work perfectly with the selected music, when watching the whole thing together, it annoyed me. Jaws disco theme is great and works well, but the heavy metal music, although great, brings me to the 1990s, not the late 1970s, and that's a major problem.

Well, I'll keep it short and sweet, incredible piece of editing!!! Just to let you guys know tho, links number 8 and 11 on the JDownloader Megaupload links are corrupt. I tried downloading the .avi of this about five times and those exact two files failed all 5 times, jdownloader couldn't extract those two parts and neither could winrar, might want to fix those links. I dl'ed the DVD because this is simply a masterpiece sir, 10/10!!!

This was an incredible edit! You really show how creativity can go a long, long way.
I love the music you added lol; the funky Jaws theme was used very well throughout.

Also, I don't think ANYONE saw that ending coming.

You, sir, TMBTM, are an incredible faneditor, and I'm really looking forward to your next release.

No technical review is warranted (although it is very professionally authored) as this is edit is just simply a ton of fun.

It's kind of like...you know how on the internet, everywhere you turn is some little parody edit of a film?
They tend to have a twist on the material with usually just the one joke at the end? This edit is like that, writ large. That sensibility, splashed across the canvas of Spielberg's Jaws.
A great idea coupled with a wicked sense of humor makes this a must see.

Is everything perfect? Nope. Do I care? Hell no. It's just too much fun.

Hat's off to you, TMBTM. An excellent release.

Eric Clapton tells this story about the first time he saw a young American guitarist at a club one night by the name of Jimi Hendrix. The next day, he phones up Pete Townshend and asks him if he'd like to get a bite to eat. They meet and sit down at a table. Eric looks at Pete and says "I just saw a kid who's going to put the rest of us out of business".

Now I know how Clapton felt. This is nothing short of genius. 10/10, easily. And the only other perfect score I've given is for Star Wars: Revisited, so you're in some pretty decent company. I can't say much without repeating what everyone else has said, but I absolutely howled when Warriors of the World kicked in. Manowar is one of my guilty pleasures and I loved that scene. The ending was just brilliant.

This really is what fan editing is all about and shows you just what's possible when high levels of creativity and technical skill meet. For me at least, this is the early front runner for Fanedit of the Year.

Can't wait for your next edit.

This was freakin' great. It really was an exploitation Jaws!

I love the famous part when Brody is looking concerned at the water while people pass in front of him, but then we realize what he's looking at, and it changes the whole idea of the motivation! Hillarious!

Just finished watching this edit. It was freakin awesome. I was slightly disappointed in the omission of Quint singing Farewell and Adieu, but man this was pure greatness.
