Additional Comment:
I hate Rodney Dangerfield. With a passion. He is not funny. Never was. His annoying presence stands out even more in Caddyshack next to comedic greats like Bill Murray and Chevy Chase. I have no idea how Dangerfield managed to make a successful career in comedy. But I don’t understand the appeal of Nascar either, so maybe it’s just me.
I would’ve loved to cut him completely out of the movie, but you need him for the final match against Judge Smails. To create tension during the match, you also need Judge Smails to hate him. So unfortunately, he has to pop up from time to time and go through some annoying hijinks. I’ve reduced his presence as much as possible while still retaining the plot. I think the movie is better and funnier for it.
So, say goodbye to Al Czervik: The original Jar-Jar.

Boo!!! It’s your choice not to like Dangerfield, but all I can say is that you’re wrong!

Caddyshack: No Respect edit by Adabisi
I had a problem writing up this review. Let it be known that I was 100% against the idea for this edit and I still am. The sub heading title of “no respect†sums up my view for this nicely. This edits focus is mainly on removing as much as Dangerfield’s presence in the film as possible. What I find especially aggravating is the amount of hatred the editor clearly has for this actor and not just in this film, but life in general.
To say Dangerfield was never funny is a strong slap in the face and a huge insult to one of the most legendary comics there was.
I always liked Dangerfield and I will agree with the editor on one thing:
You’re right I have no idea how people like Nascar either (I would rather glue my eyelids shut than watch that), but hating Dangerfield and saying he is not funny technically is saying you do not like comedy.
At any rate let me put the personal attack aside and let’s move forward…
Essentially it is almost ripping the heart out of the film and smashing it underfoot. Surely you cannot take a classic and remove some great material and still have something good can you? For the film’s sake you can. What is present still shines through and a testament to just how good this film is. You have an all star line up of actors, a well written script and they all have talent. This is a rare occasion when everyone brings it to the table
and no one is really outshining the other, a very nice blend.
However, Dangerfield hands down had the most over the top scenes in the film and in this case that was a good thing.
The issue I am having is that I love this film. Even with what Adabisi removed I still love the film. This creates a level of enjoyment while watching and his cuts did not bother me for this reason. Sadly this means his edit works. I think it was a bad move, but in terms of general flow it worked fine.
I will chalk it up this way, if this was shown on tv and edited for time only, you might end up with a print such as this one
If you saw Caddyshack before and loved the film, you might get the same feeling I had while watching this (what is left was still very good and held the film strongly). If you never saw it, you might find this to be really funny and in that case I strongly recommend you seeing the full version because you are missing on some classic moments
Tech:
The editing and sound were perfect with no issues in the slightest. The picture looked a
little grainy and I know this was from the dvd transfer. The film is presented in a matted widescreen ratio (which the region 1 US special edition uses) as the film was shot full frame open matte (so if you need that one get the old 1997 barebones release)
The dvd has chapters and a generic menu
in closing:
Giving this a rating is where my biggest problem is going to lie
For editing, video and sound
This gets a 10, I noticed nothing at all.
For menus this gets a 2. It was a generic still shot with a play button and that was it.
I cannot rate on anything else because personal bias comes into play.
Consider this an alternate version of the film, but in no way superior to the original
Overall rating gets an 8 from me, but not because I want to

caddyshack is such a familiar movie now that without rodney it is… different? it changes the feel a bit, but keeps rodney’s best bits.
still, it might not replace the original for me… a solid idea and execution, tho. 8/10

Rkerekes13’s critique:
I’m sorry, ADABISI, but this has got to be one of the meanest fanedits I’ve ever read about. Reducing Rodney Dangerfield’s presence in this movie has got to be one of the biggest mistakes anybody has made as far as fanedits are concerned. I have to agree with tranzor: hating Rodney Dangerfield and say that he’s not funny and never was is almost the same as saying that you don’t like comedy, which proves that you obviously have certain taste in comedy that YOU think is actually funny, which, I’ll admit, I have as well, but toward different types some of which you may not find appealing to you. Besides, Bill Murray’s had funnier roles than the one he had in this movie, and Chevy Chase, well, I’m sure he’s had some funny moments, too. But with all that aside, it’s alright for you to not like Dangerfield, but you shouldn’t hate anybody, living or dead. I know because I, myself, used to hate John Ritter, but now I don’t anymore. I just think Ritter seemed more of a TV actor than a movie actor, but other than that, I’m okay with Ritter, now. In conclusion, I think that this fanedit’s a clear insult to Rodney Dangerfield and Rodney Dangerfield fans everywhere.
