Your intention for this fanedit:
- This version is not an extended “best of both worlds” cut. I wanted to try something a little different using the wealth of footage out there. I chose the title Deja Vu because in my cut, Superman turns back time right after the Metropolis battle. Then events repeat in a different way, starting with the villains released in the Paris sequence. Ultimately, Superman must face his problems rather than escape them by turning back time again.
- Each of the 2 timelines is edited differently, with scenes and parts of scenes from the Donner Cut and the theatrical Lester Cut. Many scenes are completely re-edited, some are basically unchanged. Much of the music and sound has been remixed to make it more consistent with the original John Williams score. It is not meant to be a replacement for either of the 2 official cuts, but a totally different, alternate version of the movie.

I just recieved the DL version of this edit and so ill keep this short becouse ive never done one of these reviews before,i was very impressed with the cuts the editer has done with this film,i like how he made the film look like it was to films into one,really felt like i was watchin the film again for the first time… thanks again litemakr keep up the good work!!

I’ve seen both the original Lester cut of this movie back years ago when I was getting back into Superman (and for the record, hated it and fell asleep during it) and was ecstatic when the Donner cut came out last year, but this cut is something special. The combination of both films, taking the best from each one to create a new set of circumstances is genius! I only wish I’d thought of it first!

Bravo, LiteMakr, very well done! I commend you for your original idea, which allows to put in as much footage as possible from both cuts without them affecting each other’s continuity. Out of all the movies I’ve downloaded from this site the past week, yours stands out as one of the best. I especially loved the brilliant editing of both Kal-El’s father *and* mother watching as he decides to sacrifice his powers.
I only have a few nitpicks about this edit, and they’re mainly to do with the second half. First, you cut out the very funny lines “Gee, Mr. White, that’s terrible!” “That’s why they call them ‘terrorists’, Kent.” Also, I would’ve loved to see a mix of both Lester and Donner cuts of the Fortress of Solitude fight (yes, I liked the Superman logo-net and ‘psyche-him!’ sequence). Some of the edits in the film are not as smooth as others, and the encode unfortunately suffers from the Chroma Upsampling error (easy to see during the heat-vision sequences). That said, these are very minor pickings and I’ll forgive them in favor of the very orginal theme.

Oh yeah, one question for you: why did you not include the ‘magic kiss’ at the end? Now, Lois knows Superman is Clark Kent (something that affects all future films).

Hi, thanks for the comments everyone, I haven’t checked here in a while. I am glad people are enjoying the edit, it was a LOT of work, but definitely a labor of love. In response to Visor, I really dislike the magic kiss scene. Not so much theidea, but the way it was scripted and shot. I like the bittersweet idea of Lois knowing at the end. Since this is an alternative cut, I don’t mind that it doesn’t connect to the sequels.

K, got a hold of this cut now (via RapidShare — uncertain what caused the previous issue)…
I think this is very fun and creative. There are some small edits I was very appreciative of — changes to Lois falling from the Planet building, the removal of the super-breath from the Metropolis battle, and — if I’m recalling correctly — the removal of the toilet flush sound from the Fortress.
Unlike the other Superman II re-cuts, you’re not looking to replace Superman II, you’re just giving us a fun, new take. And you achieve that. This is especially perfect for those who like the Lester cut (I’m actually not part of that crowd…even as a young boy I didn’t like much of the Lester cut [the pink bear scene was always bothersome, as were lots of other parts...yet somehow still loved the film overall. Kids are very forgiving]). The addition of Lara in the Fortress scene when Superman has is powers removed is utter genius. The re-edit of the White House scene (in your second half), with the quicker pacing, is also terrific.
What doesn’t work, however, is that since Superman is aware that he turned back the world to avoid the evil villains coming to Earth, having him release them accidentally the second time around kind of implies that Superman is a complete doofus. If there was some way to have them escape OUTside of Superman’s involvement with the Paris bomb in the second go-round, that is to say, if something somewhere else occurred while Supes was in Paris, then perhaps this major plot point could be overlooked. But, hey, this is still a fine piece of work. And, it should be pointed out, you’ve done some really smart, tight editing.
