BOON23 says “I just finished watching HELLBLAZER and it seems I am turning into a JORGE fan. This is one great fanedit. To me it is a vast improvement over the original, much darker, much better, not at all embarrassing (which I found the original was). From start to finish I was very well entertained, the movie has a good flow and pace to it and it is much more about Constantine than the original.
What I didn’t like so much: the sex scene didn’t add anythign to me, although it was well exectued and I didn’t like the subtitled bar part. This one lasted too long for me and since this subtitling was nowhere else in the movie it felt misplaced to me. I could have doen without both these scenes. Still: Bravo!!!”

dhr001 says “Just watched this. Impressive. I didnt understand the why the sex scene was included, but then i suppose it sets up for the bar scene, and later in the hospital.
I actually liked the subtitled scene, but maybe the lettering was a little bright.
Overall i didn’t even really miss any of the scenes you cut. It wasn’t till the end where i realized i hadn’t seen the bug demon, and i guess that makes it a successful edit. 2 thumbs up “

DoctorM says “Indeed, this is a great edit and the sex scene works well.
It helps integrate the deleted character. Otherwise you wouldn’t understand why he has a soft spot for her.
As far as the subtitled scene, that’s fine too. I’ve seen films with scenes in clubs where they subtitle the characters because the music is too loud. I had no problem accepting it here.
I didn’t care for the difference in quality of the deleted scenes (or the changes in audio levels), but we’ve all been there. Necessary evil.
All we can hope for is a better official DVD with this material (maybe they’ll release an extended edition.)
Funny thing, I had figured we’d get an explanation of when he is surrounded by the winged demons. It always confused me and I finally dug up the answer.
For those that don’t understand the cloth on fire killing them, it’s from a cut bit just after he gets the dragon’s breath from Beeman:
Quote:
Whoa, don’t want to get a flame near this.
Piece of the shroud Moses wore to
the mountain.
That would have helped. 2 lines and you fill a plot hole. Who cuts these films????
Anyway thanks for the great edit.

jason600 says “This is the first FanEdit that I have watched. I am a big fan of the Hellblazer comics, and was extremely disappointed with the original film.
Jorge has done an amazing job of editing this film, a lot of the things that annoyed me with the original are gone, and by focusing on John throughout the film it makes it a much more watchable and interesting experience. The story now draws you in, in a way the original never did. It has a much darker, more serious feel to it. It’s just a shame that the deleted scenes Jorge has used were of a poorer quality than the rest of the film.
Jorge has done what I previously considered impossible, he has taken a crap film called ‘Constatine’ and turned it into a great film called ‘Hellblazer’.
My rating of the original: 4/10
My rating of this FanEdit: 8/10″

DragonAngel says “I actually kind of liked the original, but I missed absolutely nothing that Jorge cut in this version. The stuff about the staff wasn’t important. Adding in him having sex with the demon, that was important. (At least I don’t recall that being in the original.) I think this version is better than the original. If forced to give a rating I’d give it a 4 or 5 out of 5.
If I watch the movie again, it will be this version.”

Most noteworthy was how you fixed the ending with the gum, the original made it look like an anti-smoking ad. Seriously man, I cant thank you enough, I now love this film!”

I have the original Constantine on DVD BUT I would like to download your version of the movie, so is it possible if you could make it available for download on a torrent site ie, The Pirate Bay.org website I would appreciate it and I can evaluate and comment on it.

JORGE – I really liked this. I watched Constantine back on its original release, but not since – so I’d largely forgotten the details. Your version is seamless and well put together. Very professional. I liked it. It seemed darker than I recalled and the pace was a little slower. I hardly noticed the difference in quality for the cut scenes. Loved your new opening sequence. For the record, I had no problem with the sex scene – without it – why is Constantine attached to this creature?
There only seems to be one rather quick cut, but for all I know, that could be in the original. I shall watch Constantine shortly to compare.

I watched Hellblazer last night and I liked it!
Jorge has delivered again!
I remember that after watching the original movie, I felt like it was too long and not very good and I hoped that they will not ever make a sequal to Constantine.
After watching Jorge’s edit I felt like: Wow! great comic book movie, I wish they’ll make a sequal to it.
The only question left in my mind after watching this edit was: Where did she hide the spear after Constantine gave it to her?
The “seeing” ability they portray in the movie is not acurate at all. There is no hell wind and all sorts of crap like that. Each one of us can “see” with a little bit of practice.
Here’s a nice exercise you can try at home:
Go into a darkened room, sit in a comfortable position in front of large mirror. Light two candles, and put them on each side of the mirror, so that they will not be directly in your field of vision.
Relax yourself, breath slowly in and out, and once you are in meditative state, ask to see your faces from previous incarnations.
Now close you eyes, almost all the way, so that you can hardly see anything, and stare at the third eye of your mirror image.
To not try to focus on anything, let your mirror image become unfocused.
After a while, your mirror face will disapear and you will see ghost like images of your face from previous incarnations.
You’ll probably see more than one face. (I’ve seen about ten).
This takes a lot of energy so attempt it only when you are alert and relaxed. If you try it when you are tired, you will only fall a sleep.
Good luck!

Really nice edit which is better than the original movie. The only two, but minor two points I would change are the songs from Evanescence. I would remove them. Thx for your work.

HELLBLAZER by Jorge
I did not mind the original theatrical cut yet nothing really stayed with me. Reeves and Weisz are charismatic actors so the experience was enjoyable and far from boring.
Jorge is one of my favorite FanEditors. Rather than simply correcting movies, he tries to inject a new narrative and his FanEdits are always challenging, seamless and exceptionally professional. He also has a great talent for creating striking titles.
So I watched Hellblazer and was impressed yet again with this editing wizard. This version is hands-down better than the original and I missed absolutely nothing from the Theatrical cut.
I liked the addition of Constantine having a demon F**k-Buddy and this added depth to a later scene were we see her again.
This FanEdit proves the possibilities of this medium because Jorge has produced something with far more subtelty and depth than the original incarnation. It is hard to comment on any changes in particular because the editing and sound design are so flawless that they are not noticeable so the FanEdit feels at one with itself.
Well Done and Keep Them Coming!

Let me start out with my scores. On a technical level, this definitely earns a 5 star review. If I didn’t know this wasn’t a professional re-cut, I never would have known the difference. In fact, the only thing I can think to criticize is the club scene. The subtitles were definitely too big and looked weird, and I think it would have helped to have someone actually say the lines and then mixed that in, because if they aren’t talking loud enough for us to at least hear the sounds of human speech (even if we can’t make it out), then there’s no way they’re talking loud enough to hear each other. However, if judged in comparison to the original, as to which is a more “definitive version”… I can only give it 3 stars. By this, I only mean to say that I found it neither better nor worse, just different. You very did a very nice job of turning a supernatural action flick, into more of a supernatural thriller. And I applaud you for that.
Personally, I enjoyed Constantine when I originally saw it on DVD (note: I was completely unaware of the comic at the time), and if anything was slightly disappointed because I thought it was sold as more of an action movie than it turned out to be. While I do believe that you’ve constructed a film closer in feel to the comic (I’ve read the first few trades at this point), I actually think you’ve erred on the opposite side this time. There are a few things that just felt out of place. First, are the 2 Evanescence songs (which I assume are the ones when John first goes to the bowling alley, and the one after the credits). They just didn’t fit the tone of the rest of the movie. Second is when Angela gets pulled out of the building, its cut as a chase scene (which is the original cut and no fault of yours, but I never really felt it worked) and I think it would work better if it was rearranged to be less “actiony”. Third, (and I’m getting down to nitpicks here) I think the gunshot sound effect with Satan bursts the doors near the end is over the top for this cut, It should be more subtle if at all possible. Finally, I think that the thriller aspect might have been heightened by beginning with the suicide instead. Maybe it’s just me, but I like when a movie sets its tone early. I think a cut from the suicide to John bitching about his cancer or the same girl (as far as the audience knows) in a confessional would have set-up a very “WTF” feeling. Now maybe there’s no way to really make that work considering the footage you have available, but it’s just an idea… version 2.0 perhaps?
So to summarize, good… different… not different enough. But that’s just my 2 cents, so take it for what it’s worth.

awesome. a little editing goes a long way here and this is a much improved version to the original. the deleted scenes really add to the story (and heat it up a bit!) and the ridiculous monster is cut. in addition, this seems a much more “internal” movie as we follow john. i connect with the character a lot more.

A good fanedit, improving a lot on the original. But it’s still not a great movie and that bar scene and sex scene really took me out of it.

perfer the slower pace to this film though i didn’t like the ending. the draggger story was introucded at the start then nothing until the end felt abit odd i wouldn’t have deleted the journey scenes. again the subtitles could’ve been better maybe you could have dubbed it so they were talking in some ancient hell language?
not bad 3/5

I hadn’t seen Constantine since its theatrical release but I remember I had been very disappointed at that time. This edit is definitely better than the original thanks to the addition of all the deleted scenes!
Thank you Jorge!

Three cheers for Jorge. He really went to town and his “Hellblazer” is a very strong fanedit of “Constantine”. I’ll have to go back to my copy of the original for comparison, but this may be the better cut of the film! No mean achievement. I like the addition of the subtitles during the club scene though it would have been nice had the voices been louder. i.e. just barely audible instead of completely buried in the music. I rather like the idea of Ellie and JC conversing in some other ancient “hellish” language (Tolkien’s Elvish might have worked too for a nicely geeky-yet-demonic touch since it’s a fully-functioning language). Still, providing the grit of their conversation was a good idea. Unlike JCPRuckus I had no problem with the two Evanescence tunes added to the soundtrack. I found them to work very well in the context of the mood of “Hellblazer”. Good choices IMO though the Dutch prog-metal band The Gathering might have been even better given the gothic-horror-novel feel of their 90s albums. Like joebshmoe I also didn’t miss the insect monster encounter. “Hellblazer” is definitely a fanedit I shall point others towards and one I will watch again next time I’m in the mood for an occult/action hybrid.
