Fanedit details:
The forum poll ran for 4 weeks, the decision was crystal clear: this time it was going to be SPACE. As usual the rules were strict:
1. has to contain space as an important part of the story
2. 18 minutes runtime
3. must have a logical plot.
The faneditors could choose from the entire universe of Science Fiction movies to create their shorts, cut them down to the essence or create a new plot by meshing them up. Blueyoda was the one in charge of this project, helping wherever he could with suggestions and advise, but was also in charge of allowing and disallowing submissions. In the end 8 fascinating works of fanediting art made it on the DVD.

Firstly, let me say thank-you to everyone that contributed into this project. While I may be an unknown on this site, I work as an independent film-maker. So I would like to offer my insight into this great collaborative work. I warn you that its not all good comments, but I admire your contribution and thank you for your work. The opinion expressed is my own and I only say them in hope that it can be of use to you as constructive criticism to improve your next works.
Wall-E Fantasy
This short started amazingly, and the blend between Wall-E and Final fantasy was superb. The editing was flawless and I was immediately taken into the world of the editor. However, being a fan of both films, it was difficult to get past the lack of an ending. You want it to go somewhere but just doesn’t. I know the editor only had so much footage to work with, but maybe he could have stuck the Titan AE opening on the end and blew up the planet just to finish things off?
But in the end, this is what I believe fan-editing is about. Taking two completely different stories and integrating them together to create a whole new story. That is its strength and for that reason, this is the short that takes top marks at successfully completing the main goal.
Alien Elements
It’s an interesting project and as a shortened version of AVP, it works very well. Unfortunately the other films spliced in seem fruitless and only drag the story, rather than add to it. The talking Predator was probably not needed. However I liked what you tried to do, I just think it was too similar to the original movie.
Humans are Limited
I never liked the original movie, and this condensed version didn’t sit with me at all. It was slow and I fast-forwarded through it, sorry.
Aggressive Negotiations
This is a condensed version of the Star Wars Clone Wars movie to fit into the format of the TV Series, and it achieves that goal very, very well. Everything is tightly edited and well-put together. The story is strong and there are no weak points.
Star Wars Phantom Documentary
This is basically a deleted scene with an introduction put in front of it. There was no plot or real technical editing here. And while the deleted scene was interesting, in my opinion, it wasn’t worth making this short out of it.
Mayflower Madness
A condensed movie or Airplane 2. Unlike the others, this is based on a parody, which means you are missing 90% of the jokes. I don’t understand why this was made, as you really need to watch the full film to get the full humour. There’s nothing wrong with the short and it’s technically well-made, even with the explosive ending. But a parody like this has you laughing every few seconds, and I would much rather laugh for 90 minutes that 15 minutes.
Klone
I scanned through it. I never watched Solaris and this short didn’t hold my interest either. Sorry, I couldn’t sit through and watch it. It might not be your fault, I just found the original film boring, and that might have affected my watching your short.
Humans are Limitless
This started as a music video, and then became a mismatch of scenes from movies with the transformers soundtrack playing underneath. I didn’t understand it and there was no plot.
Overall, I think the collection is okay. But I feel many of you are just trying to put a short together as quickly as possible just to get a film amongst the collection. The first constitution was about making new films using existing movies and splicing them together to create a new story. I feel that the goal has been forgotten and while condensed movies are nice, that isn’t what fan editing is about (in my opinion).
If it takes having an extra 6 months on the deadline, then that is what needs to be done. But original stories, and maybe some defined rules about what’s allowed (documentaries / music videos etc.) need to be made, as I see no reason why they are amongst a collection suppose to be called ‘short films’.

Heres my review of Consecution 4: Space
TMBTM – Wall-E Fantasy: Great concept, well excecuted but lacks a solid ending. I deeply admire and respect your ability to mash up different sources so seamlessly TMBTM, well done sir! 8/10
ThrowgnCpr – Alien Elements: Another great concept that gives AvP a new spin. I loved the talking predator even if he had no mask but retained the vocalization HUD
sorry its the Predator fanboy in me. 7/10
Adabisi – Humans Are Limited: Loved it. As a fan of the original I can recognize that it drags into arty farty territory. This edit speeds up the meat and potato’s and makes for a quick ride to the good stuff. 9/10
Gaith – Attack Of The Phantom: I dont fully understand this one. I gather that it is poking fun at Lucas and co for making a 5 minute plot into 3 films and filling them all with useless eye-candy. 5/10
Uncanny Antman – Clone Wars: Well edited condensed Clone Wars film. This cut retained all the good stuff while trimming the crap. I didnt miss “skyguy” at all. 7/10
M77 – Mayflower Madness: A funny condensed version of Airplane 2. Too bad this was just one big rehash of Airplane. I liked the effort but didnt find the humor very funny (subjective) 6/10
Elbarto1 – Klone: I of course like my short but refrain from reviewing my own work
Blueyoda – Humans are Limitless – I loved this peice. Like all interpretive art, you run the gamut from love to hate. from confusion to understanding. while I cant say I fully understood it, I certainly loved it. humans are cocksure, foolhardy syccophants who (regardless of interstellar intervention) still manage to destroy themselves through the technology they create. many subtle personal references throughout – the b.y. avatar on the screens the xxxfelavie on slim pickens h-bomb and the quick cut imagery – result in total sensory overload which gave me chills throughout. I am sure I am in the minority here but I very much enjoyed this effort and feel you have crafted a peice of art in video form. 9/10
Overall I feel this was a fine success and while hindered slightly by the vague theme/limitations I feel everyone involved did a great job and delivered a varied/entertaining peice of pulp for the community. well done team. looking forward to the next project.
thank you

Wall-e Fantasy
Nice little short and well edited, but it felt like it ended halfway through the story. 7/10
Alien Elements
Lots of motion blur in the video. Nice idea and well edited, but no real central characters to speak of or care about really hurt this one. A few nagging inconsistencies that bothered me as well. And the whole thing takes place on Earth. Which, I guess technically, is in space… 6/10
Humans are Limited
Not going to rate my own edit.
Aggressive Negotiations
Well edited, but the narrative can’t stand on it’s own and would be fairly confusing without knowledge of the greater Star Wars universe. 5/10
Star Wars: Episode II.I
Audio was out of synch with the video. Switches to black and white randomly. Not sure what the point of this one was. 1/10
Mayflower Madness
This was great. Provided some much needed comic relief. Lots of continuity mistakes but that’s part of this type of comedy. Fits perfectly, whether it was intentional or not. Some of the editing could have been better, though. 9/10
Klone
Very well done. Nice condensed version of Solaris. Loved the ending. Unfortunately, more motion blur in the video and dialogue coming from all 5 channels instead of being isolated to the centre. 8/10, but easily a 10/10 without the technical issues.
Humans are Limitless
More blurry video. At this point I’m starting to think the issue is somewhere in the authoring process. Made me laugh in spots and I liked the general concept but it felt more like a bunch of youtube clips mashed together than a cohesive narrative. The music video at the beginning felt horribly out of place and I hate that song (but considering this is blueyoda I’m guessing that’s the point) and the cut-off -in mid-sentence ending is just strange (again, I’m guessing that was the point). Good editing but 5/10 because it made me angry (which I’m sure was the point).
Menus
I liked the old school Atari 2600 look to them, but the font was so small it was barely legible and there was a lot of blank space that could’ve been used.
Overall, I’ll give the project a 6/10.
Review by Adabisi — December 29, 2009 @ 7:33 am
Well that’s the second consecution I am going to review and first things first: it cannot touch the Batman Consecution
I have to agree with on of the previous posters that a consecution should be more than a collection of compressed movies, a consecution should combine different elements (like Infodroids fabulous “Bruce Wayne: Depths of Darkness” or even if it is a recut it should be like “Mayhem and Mistletoe” where you experience two different scenes from a movie as one styled up in a sin city like fashion
overall I’d give this consecution 6/10 even though i would like to rate it higher (special congrats to the menu design, it was great) but there are a few gripes i have.
now to the fanedtis:
Adabisi – Humans Are Limited
While technically flawless this was an edit i more or less skipped through, since in essence it is just a compressed version of a scene from 2001 – so it wasn’t that interesting to watch. Compressing a scene should be done if the movie itself is flawed because of pacing/bad humor etc,. all the michael bay problems one can think of – since 2001 is more or less a perfectly shot/balanced/paced movie – any cuts or separate scenes might be nice to look at – only way to tackle movies like 2001 is to either remix it (looking at jorge
) or grindhouse them (TMBTM) or something i will adress when i come to the next edit
6/10
Blueyoda -Humans Are Limitless
This is an edit I’m really torn over – i can’t say I enjoyed it, but the concept at the beginning, this idea got me so excited that I beg blueyoda to start a full featurelength fanedit mixing Transformers and 2001! Please Please Please!
The beginning was very weird with the computergraphics about optimus prime, but the whole idea of combining the monolith with the allspark was funny and an interesting concept. The Music Video was not really a great addition and after a while the whole thing fell apart. While Megatron/hal is a funny idea it was more like a fun video but not like a real fanedit that changed the story – Megahal 9000 was proclaiming his reign during the interview and nobody reacted
5/10 – but the concept would get a 10/10
* Elbarto1 – Klone (using Solaris (2002), Sunshine (2007), Event Horizon (1997) – 17:58
The depressing story of a lost and hallucinating astronaut.

Gaith – Star Wars: Episode 2.1 – Attack Of The Phantom
I don’t think i understand this edit … well the audio was a little messed up and while i enjoyed the interviews at the beginning, where Lucas and Company where basically talking about what we guys here at fanedit.org do, the whole “deleted scene” stuff was just.. meh…
4/10
M77 – Mayflower Madness
Haven’t watched this one yet, but I have the same problems with it that i have with “humans are limited” – a best of … well that’s the stuff for clipshows not fanedits. but i’ll give it a try, maybe it will work
ThrowgnCpr – Alien Elements
Now here the fanedit spirit starts to shine through. While AVP is not a good movie it can be edited to an enjoyable one. The beginning was a great blend between AVP and Fifth Element and the Alien Symbol in the middle as the “fifth element” made me smirk. The Predator appearance is a bit choppy, it is an interesting thought, but there probably wasn’t that much footage. I liked how the editor avoided the whole arctic plot and just said “a pyramid was discovered” – i was a little disappointed that the predator didn’t talk to lex at the end, would have been a cool idea to insert some lines from fifth element
I didn’t like the predator vision especially in the beginning
7/10
Uncanny Antman – Clone Wars – Aggressive Negotiations
It’s uncanny antman, what do you expect? This was a way better star wars experience than the initial “episode”/”movie” of the clone wars and having the whole “snips” etc. talk removed really helped the experience. I’m still no fan of the cartoony “obi wan drinks tea while negotiating” but there’s only so much an editor could do.
I must say the ending was perfect, using the dialog to make it anakins decision to take asoka is just great, it felt more natural and to the star wars geek in me this is the official version of the asoka meeting now
10/10
TMBTM – WALL-E Fantasy
Well well well…
This was the first short i watched and at the start i was a little pissed, because I thought the editor would just cut wall-e down to 10 minutes (i didn’t read the description on the page). Then the movie got a little darker and i thought “is this deliberate or is there an error with the color filter and even though one could tell that the dark “evening” atmosphere was added by an editor it was still neat – when the final fantasy ship landed this edit became a “holy *peep*” experience and yeah what can i say: this is the true spirit of consecution fanediting. Congrats to this great piece of editing.
And while i can understand some people complaining that it felt chopped of, i was so happy with every second of editing that everything past the spaceship landing was a treat
Congrats to TMBTM!
Review by Sunarep — December 29, 2009 @ 4:42 pm
sorry for double posting:
Forgot to mention Klone, which was a very enjoyable yet again suffering from the compressed-edit problem, but the mixing with the sunshine footage was well done and it felt a little more rounded than the 2001 edit
7/10
Review by Sunarep — December 29, 2009 @ 5:04 pm
Great work you guys. This makes 4/4 consecutions that I have really enjoyed watching. 8 / 10 for the whole project.
Wall-E Fantasy: Sweet! I was so pleased that the FF parts worked so well! Nicely done sir! 8 out of 10 for excellence in editing, even if the story is somewhat lacking.
Alien Elements: Hehe, funny start, even if parts of it didn’t look exactly right. Really good choices from the AvP movie I think. A little rushed, a little weird, but totally enjoyable. 7/10.
Humans are Limited: I like this, but it’s basicly just a parrt of the movie. I mean, it’s a great great part, and has a different ending (that I like), but I like it when people try to do something more of their own. 6/10 for me.
Aggressive Negotiations: This works really well as an episode in the series. It feels complete! Not a big fan of the animated SW though, and it’s not creating something new. But I really liked the feeling we got from it all, so 7/10.
Star Wars: Episode II.I: Odd…not a short story! And sync issues. Sorry. Liked a little bit of it, for 2/10.
Mayflower Madness: hehehehe…had some laughs, and it tells a story from lift off to ending. Still felt like scenes don’t always tell a cohesive story, and Striker just is there suddenly. The new end made me smile! 6/10.
Klone: I was really digging this, but got a little confused. This might be the intention, but I lost that good feeling I had. In total I settled for 7/10, just missing out on an 8 for me.
Humans are Limitless: I think I’m a BY fan. I just love what you do with some shots, but at other times you’re so damn weird! I wonder if this could have been shorter? More to the point? 7/10 anyway!
Menus – awesome, extra info on the editors was fun too. Good work everyone!
Review by spelledaren — December 29, 2009 @ 5:17 pm
Wall-E Fantasy by TMBTM: I liked this quite a bit. I really enjoyed the original Wall-E until he got off the planet, so for me the ending actually worked very well. And the opening text was helpful in appreciating the ending. The mixing of the two sources was done very well. My only disappointment was the lack of 5.1, something that really would have put this over the top for me. By the way, I also thought for a moment that Wall-E was running away, rather than chasing after the humans, but overall it still worked fine for me. 9/10
Alien Elements by ThrowgnCpr: I was lukewarm on this one, but only because I’m not an AvP fan so it’s not my cup of tea. Certainly not Throw’s fault. I liked the atmosphere in this, and the 5.1 really helped sell the atmosphere. I thought the mixing of The Fifth Element with the Predator worked reasonably well, and it was very clear to me that the AvP scenes were supposed to be in the same location as the previous Fifth Element scene. I also noticed one flash frame (if that’s the right term) right near the end as the ship was leaving the planet – there was an extremely quick shot of the woman survivor, which was so fast I had to rewind to see if I had just imagined it. 6/10, although I have deducted a few points for my lack of interest in AvP. Otherwise I’d probably give it 8/10.
Humans are Limited by Adabisi: I thought this was very cool. Basically a short story about Hal vs. the Humans. When I got to the end, my first thought was that the short couldn’t possibly be over. But after thinking about it for a moment, I loved the alternate direction it took. Well done. 9/10
Star Wars Episode 2.1 by Gaith: I think this was based on the EP 1 deleted scenes doc, but applying it to The Phantom Editor’s EP 2 instead. I liked the bits from the doc, with talking heads discussing how hard it is to cut and then showing clips that are in the theatrical, but presumably gone from The Phantom Editor’s edit. However, that part felt too short to me, and I really didn’t want to watch the Asteroid Chase scene, even if it made sense in context of The Phantom Editor’s edit. I think the idea was interesting but would have liked something different in execution – perhaps just more talking head clips intercut with the worst bits of the movie, rather than making it about The Phantom Editor. Also, the Asteroid Chase scene had a few random B&W bits I was confused by. Usually color vs. B&W is used to indicate deleted material vs. non-deleted, so I assume that’s what was being done there. 4/10
Clone Wars – Aggressive Negotiations by Uncanny Antman: Pretty good stuff here. Embiggens, indeed
A nice action packed piece that kept me engaged. The sound was a 5.1 upmix , so if you’re using a 5.1 system, make sure to adjust your levels accordingly. 8/10
Mayflower Madness by M77: Loved this! A nice change of pace to throw some comedy in the mix. Although a few jokes fall flat, I really enjoy this type and period of comedy (original Airplane, Police Squad / Naked gun, etc.). Ending was perfect. And out of eight shorts, we get two with HAL and one with ROC! 9/10 – loses a point for a lack of Shatner
Humans Are Limitless by Blueyoda: I don’t think I’m the audience for this. The opening narration was fine. I didn’t mind the idea of the rock video (even thought I don’t like the song, it didn’t bother me) except for one thing – seeing the band was a big minus for me. Replacing the band with more clips would have worked much better, as the band just dragged me out of this. I felt the rest of the music worked really well. The idea of combining Megatron and Hal was cool, but no one reacts to Megatron, and the interviewer continues to refer to him as Hal. It just was too jarring. The end bit with the BY logo also dragged me out of the film. I wanted to like this but just ended up frustrated. 4/10
Klone by Elbarto1: Nice work here. I always liked the Clooney version of Solaris and this was really enjoyable to watch and listen too (liked the music quite a bit). Another 5.1 upmix here, but I just made another levels adjustment and it worked fine. 9/10
Overall – 8/10. I actually liked this better than the Batman Consecution, mainly due to the source material. Except for a few misfires, I thought this was a really successful project. And the DVD is well done, including a really nice Alien intro/theme, Consecution Trailers, and info about each editor. Too bad Adabisi didn’t get an avatar! Thanks to all

Space Consecution: A Review by Mollo
As the DVD menu opens there is a really brilliant opening title sequence to the menu. This sets the tone for the project perfectly.
First up is:
Wall-E Fantasy by TMBTM
There is quite a contrast in the production design of Wall-E and Final Fantasy but the editing is very good, seamless. There are some excellent special effects created by TMBTM, which integrate the two sources very well. As for story, it is slight and felt like it ended too soon. That is a good thing right? 8/10
Alien Elements by ThrownCpr
A lingering opening credit starts an atmospheric short. The arrival to earth is done perfectly. Also the ending is beautifully cut. The opening Predator introduction where it talks feels a little rushed. Also the Predator POV’s felt odd. Over all a good effort that shows moments of real perfection. 8/10
Humans Are Limited by Adabisi
I was expecting some more radical changes but there are none. It feels like a very long teaser trailer for the original. Still the editing is crisp and it has a story to tell. The ending worked well but some more time could have been spent on an opening and ending credit sequence. 6/10
Aggressive Negotiations by Uncanny Antman
Not being familiar with these animated films posed no problems. This is a fun an action-packed addition. It is seamlessly cut and more importantly I enjoyed it. The Jedi do seem totally invincible against all that hardware, so an element of threat is missing. I mean after the opening battle they are not even out of breath. 8/10
Star Wars: Episode II.I by Gaith
Is this the first documentary to make a Consecution? There are syncing issues and I am not sure what the point of the short is as the asteroid chase is featured in the theatrical? I am unsure how to rate this but as a part of Space Consecution it feels out of place. 2/10
Mayflower Madness by M77
It is always nice to has some comedy injected into the proceedings and I think it is harder to pull off. There are a few rough edits and most jokes fall flat in my opinion. The ending was what was needed. The decision to do an out and out comedy was a good one. 6/10
Klone by Elbarto1
This begins very well. I like the credits, very subtle, nice font and seamless. This short FanEdit grabs you and sucks you in. It works on a higher level and I really enjoyed it. I loved towards the end the dream and the integrated footage from Sunshine. The sound design was faultless too. Great ending. Great work Elbarto1, you should be very proud and pleased with yourself. Your skill and talent is ever growing. 10/10
Humans Are Limitless by Blueyoda
…and so to the last of the short FanEdits. Very nice opening logos with brilliant sound design. This begins so well and then turns into MTV?!!!? Maybe a better song would have helped but I think not. What am I watching? I struggled through but it simply appeared as a collection of images strung together with endless music and sound bites. Logic appears absent. Then Blueyoda purposely throws a spanner into the works by using his own icon. The final credit bears no repeating and is hard to take, for that alone I feel that this is the real shocker of the set. Still very good technique and sound design. A story would have helped. 5/10
As a whole this is not a bad collection of short FanEdits. It shows a lot of evolving talent particularly by ThrownCpr, Blueyoda and Elbarto1. Uncanny and TMBTM continue to prove their mastery of this medium. The brightest star for me is Klone by Elbarto1.
I enjoyed Space Consecution and that is the main thing isn’t it?
Review by Rock Savage — January 8, 2010 @ 10:38 am
Finally watched all the epidodes and listing them down in order of enjoyment.
WALL-E Fantasy – 10 – Fantastic. I didn’t know what to expect and quite frankly, I enjoyed this more than WALL-E.
Klone – 9 – Great editing and visuals.
Clone Wars – Aggressive Negotiations – 8 – Uncanny editing. ‘Nuff said.
Alien Elements – 7 – Prettty good. Nice editing.
Humans Are Limited – 6 – Was OK. Enjoyed it.
Mayflower Madness – 6 – I love Airplane but I didn’t find this funny at all. Was happy when they blowed up.
Humans Are Limitless – 5 – Started off awesome but then was like a blender of different, unrelated images. Well that’s the impression I got.
Star Wars: Episode 2.1 – 1 – I don’t get it.
Review by zeppelinrox — January 12, 2010 @ 10:48 pm
This is how I see it:
Most of this (and other consecution editions) consist of material I may or may not have seen before. Therefore I do not read descriptions ahead of time and just sit back and watch what is presented. In doing so this gives me a total unbiased view of what I am watching. Does what I see make sense? Do I see a nice short story or understand what the editor is trying to accomplish? For some of the past consecution projects (namely Batman) a lot of the time I had no idea just what in the world I was supposed to be watching, until I read the descriptions afterward, then it made more sense. Luckily that did not happen here.
I am going to do this as a group project review and not go through edit by edit. I will say I did see some nice stand outs and some that, well… kind of remained in the background. I also noticed more creativity and nice visuals raising the fan edit effects bar.
I loved the menu system, however on my 27″ analog tv the font writing for each fan edit on the menu was almost un-readable. A slightly larger font size would have worked better
Still with only that minor issue, the edit was almost a balanced mix of ones I did enjoy and ones I did not enjoy so much. I am giving this consecution an 8
Review by tranzor — January 13, 2010 @ 6:27 am
I am a big sci-fi fan but none of the shorts here did anything for me. The wall-e/final fantasy was slightly watchable combo but ultimately pointless and Humans are Limited was a nice trim of the best part of the most boring movie in the history of cinema, but the trim felt equally boring and uninteresting. I give those two a 2/10 and the others 1/10. Don’t waste any of your precious life with this one.

Another Consecution come and gone, mixed results as always (with some standouts on show) but good fun to be a part of. Bring on Marvel Consecution.

I just wanted to put in my two cents on Gaith’s Star Wars 2.1 Deleted Scene edit. I thought it was hysterical. The joke is that Lucas and crew are talking about removing scenes that stop the flow of the movie or fall flat and Gaith intercuts with scenes that remained in Episode II that are completely idiotic. And when Rick McCallum says that George is ruthless with what he cuts out I almost died laughing.
