Downloads
Fanedit.org does not host any download links anymore. It might be illegal in your country to download and share a fanedit. When we are told about the availability of a fanedit on the internet, we will add the name of the place, but no links, nor the complete address. This is is to protect fanedit.org. If you do search for fanedits to download, you do this on your own risk and responsibility. We are a showcase for quality approved fanedits only and cannot be held responsible for people getting into trouble by visiting and downloading from websites that might host illegal works.
WHERE ARE THE LINKS THEN?
To stay as legal as possible, we do not give direct links to download pages, but there is a place that gives you exactly this information:
come to:
Please note that we do NOT tell you to go there and download anything. You do this on your own risk and responsibility.
Reminder: If you watch a fanedit, please be so kind to come back, comment and rate it. This is invaluable and very important feedbakc for the faneditors.
RELEASES:
Some of you still might find fanedits for download on other places. This page is intended to help and explain a bit about the various ways of downloading.
The fanedits come in different formats. For DVD it should be noted that there is PAL and NTSC. While all PAL players can play NTSC, a lot of NTSC players cannot play PAL, so take care of what you download. Region Codes don’t apply to fanedits, for all of them are region free.
Other formats are AVI, MKV and MP4, which can be played by some DVD players as well.
WMV can only be played on computers and x-box.
Quicktime movies (MOV) can be played on computers only, some can be played on an i-pod.
If your PC cannot play a fanedit, this is usually caused by missing codecs. The freeware player VLC MEDIA PLAYER (PC only) usually plays everything and does not need codecs. If you want to know, what codecs are required, you can use the program the program G-Spot (PC only) (try this link here) for detailed information.
Shrinking and authoring:
If you download a DUAL LAYER DVD you might think about shrinking it, to make it fit on a SL DVD, which is of course much cheaper, but be careful. Tools like DVD shrink are not producing great quality, especially when it comes to long movies (over 2h). DVD REBUILDER is by far the better tool for that, but when a fanedit exceeds 2h30 you should really think about burning to DL. Actually you should always keep the fanedits in the format you get them to provide the best possible quality. The faneditors took a long time to create these and reducing the quality kind of ruins their efforts to entertain you.
If you want to make a DVD from an AVI, WMV, MKV or MOV, try to use high quality tools for that, such as ConvertXtoDVD.
POSSIBLE DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS OF THE FANEDITS :
RAPIDSHARE is a filestoring service. It can be used by anyone, but premium members (who have to pay a monthly fee) get lots of comfortable advantages. Rapidshare hosts the files of premium members for the time being. No seeders are required and the files don’t expire. Also Rapidshare is extremely fast for Downloads. Free users however have to tolerate waiting periods. Links will be posted in the posts and there will be an announcement for availability at the top of the post.
Download ALL of the files in the same directory. Use an unpacking tool like winrar (PC) for .rar files. Use HJ-Split for 001 002 etc files. If you need a different software, it will be stated in the post. All passwords are written either before of after the links.
To find Rapidshare links, you need to visit websites that hold these. Rapidshare availability will be mentioned at the bottom of a post or in a comment.
BITTORRENT is a filesharing tool, which lets you download files that other people have stored on their computers and are willing to share. The service is free. However, it takes willing people to share and share alike for this system to work. Files expire soon when no one is left who has a complete source. To find Bittorrent links, you need to visit websites that hold these. Bittorrent availability will be mentioned at the bottom of a post or in a comment.
NEWSGROUPS are a special part of the internet that even pre-dates the World Wide Web. Once upon a time when the internet was still young there were special interest groups that shared information and kept in touch by using a bulletin board type system. The downloads are very fast and no seeders are needed. The service is not free, you need to subscribe to a newsgroups service. Files expire between 60 and 120 days. Newsgroups availability will be mentioned at the bottom of a post or in a comment.
OTHER FILE HOSTING SERVICES Of course there are plenty of other filehosting services, but none of them is currently used on a regular basis. Mediafire.com, Uploaded.to and other websites will be mentioned at the bottom of a post or in a comment.
Downloading through the newsgroups or through rapidshare (and other filehosting services) is considered safe in most countries, because the data you get is not shared with others, leaving you in full responsibility of your actions for owning the original DVD.
You should be aware that when you use a filesharing service like bittorrent or emule, you also give data to people that might not have the original DVD. This can in some countries considered as a copyright violation. Use such services on your own risk.
If you encounter a problem unpacking
Sometimes and because of different reasons, your download will not be successful right ahead. This happens. Still all the data on Rapidshare is not the problem, as we make sure to test all the files, unpack every DVD, and check all the URLs before posting them here.
But it happens that you get the message, that unpacking was not successful, be it for corrupt files or a wrong password. here is what you can do to still get this thing unpacked:
- Restart your computer and try unpacking again. (you probably won’t believe it, but this actually is the solution for most problems)
- Type the password manually. RAR files (the preferred archiving format used here) have a tendency to be very picky about spaces, dots, caps, whatever. Type it by hand to avoid any problem there. (this also helped a lot)
- Re-download the corrupt parts. Sometimes during downloads it happens that files get corrupted, but not often. Download these parts again, restart your computer and you should be fine.
- Download to a different directory to avoid errors through temp files on your computer.
for quickpar see THIS guide.
If this, and ONLY all of this fails, sign up here and post your problem below in the Comments section. Tell us exactly what your problem is and maybe we can find a way to help you.
PASSWORDS:
the passwords to unpack files are usually fanedit.org or fanedited.com (for older fanedits).

a md5 file (if present) is a checksum file to help you validate, if the downloaded files came down correctly. Run it through either HKSFV for PC (you may use this link here to get it) or MD5 for MAC (you may use this link here to get it) to check the files. If one of them is bad, you will need to download this file again.
