In the spotlight: 2009
2009
The year 2009 is history now. And what a great year it was for the art of fanediting. Here is the 2009 retrospect:
THE BASIC STATISTICS
- 108 TRUE FANEDITS were created and quality approved in 2009, which sets a new all-time record.
- 11 EXTENDED EDITIONS were created and quality approved, which is the lowest number since the beginning of Fanedit.org.
- in 2009 we had a bit more than 317.000 visitors, which is an average of 870 visitors per day. Taking into account that Fanedit.org in 2009 contained no download links, this is HUGE and just shows how the interest in fanedited movies is rising more and more.
- June 2009 was the most active month of the year with 126.000 page views
- on Monday, December 21, 2009 we had the most visitors of the entire year: 1616
RATINGS AND REVIEWS
- on February 20 the ratings sytem was changed from a 5-star system to a 10-star system by public demand.
- on August 15 the comment function was changed to a review function to support only things that people have to say about the fanedit.
- 3014 ratings were collected in 2009. With this big number of ratings the average dropped from 8.4 to 7.9, which still means that either fanedits are extremely great or people prefer to rate the good ones, because a negative rating requires a review on Fanedit.org.
- 1232 reviews were written.
- the most discussed fandit was just like last year STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 Special Edition REVISITED by Adywan. It is also the most rated and most watched one.

MONTHLY TRUE FANEDIT CONTEST
As in 2008 we had a true fanedit contest of the month. Unlike in the previous year we have changed the rules to further support great and respectable works and not just make a choice by user rating. For this reason we have a new group on our forum, the FE academy, who discuss every month which one is the most likely winner.
since the December contest is still running we can only present you currently the 11 other winners:
- January: The Lord of the Rings: Book I — The Return of the Shadow by Kerr
- February: Reflections by CBB
- March: X-Men: Trilogy by Wraith
- April: Red Dragon — Manhunter Edition by CBB
- May: Batman Begins: Dark Cut by JMB
- June: JAWS The Sharksploitation Edit by The Man Behind the Mask
- Juli: War Of The Worlds — The Extinctive Cut by CBB
- August: Sheriff John Quincy Wydell: Devil Hunter by Tranzor
- September: AMDS films by AMDS
- October: HALLOWEEN PART II by Modernknife
- November: Transformers (UA Edit) by Uncanny Antman
DONATIONS TO FANEDIT.ORG HAVE VASTLY DECLINED
FE is a small website. In 2008 we got a huge amount of donations that provided a big help and made us think we could switch to our own server sometimes, as with a growing community and more and more people being interested in the fine art of fanediting, a growing number of donations could have been expected. In 2008 we received 837$ including 87$ from the Amazon widgets, our only advertisment on the website. In 2009 we received a total of 490$, which is only a bit more than half of last year, but including 263$ from the Amazon widgets. The current result hardly pays for anythign more than the website costs and a few little prizes for the annual awards. It is a pity that we seem to be unable to make any progress here as all the money is and was solely spent for the website and its benefit.
CONSECUTIONS
The consecution series are collections of short fanedits by various faneditors, all creating a part of a specific theme. There are strict rules to each consecution to make the DVD release as consistent as possible.
In 2009 3 Consecutions were created:

ANNUAL FE AWARDS:
the first ever annual FE awards took place in March 2009 and were a great success. All the winners received real engraved statues. Overall this was a very worthy event that even in the small world of fanediting felt like a big one. In 2010 we will have the next FE awards.
PRESERV.CO.CC
The special editions were separated from Fanedit.org to get their own home and their own deserved attention, most of all because they were not fanedits in the first place, but custom created DVDs with rare and commercially unavailable features, authored to DVD with a lot of love and effort for the fans to store them and the world to never forget them. The new website also has its own forum:

FANEDIT.INFO
Because of our trouble with the MPAA in 2008, we first removed the download links from fanedit.org, next we put them on one of these downloads websites, which was a big mistake. Fanedits as we see them do not belong on warez sites. And the strange money-greedy politics of the website owners made our stay there very uncomfortable, which resulted in the creation of FANEDIT.INFO – the download links website for fanedits. Along with this the system was changed from true download links to dlc files, which require an addition program (jdownloader) to work, but also protect the links a lot better from deletion. FANEDIT.INFO was from its very beginning in June 2009 a huge success and seems to satisfy most people in easily finding exactly what fanedit they are looking for.
MOST ACTIVE FANEDITORS
Who made the most fanedits in 2009? Some of the long term fanedits made considerably less fanedits than in 2008, but others really had a run. Some examples: CBB made 16 fanedits in 2008 and “only” 6 in 2009. Jorge made 7 fanedits in 2008, but only 1 in 2009. Uncanny Antman made 10 fanedits in 2008 and only 2 in 2009. Mollo made 9 fanedits in 2008 and only 2 in 2009.
There are new big names in the list of famous and known faneditors: The Man Behind The Mask and Kerr
