The intro song… You wouldn’t believe “Also Sprach Zarathustra” could be transformed into funk / psychedelic (by Eumir Deodato), but alas, it actually works.

Every scene where a monolith appears becomes quite interesting. The new score really changes the vibe, and the edit is a great “alternative” experience. Quite unique.

Visually, I don’t mind the added grain, dust, dirt, and contrast. But I’m really not a fan of the vertical black lines. I’m fine with the somewhat random lines, but the vertical lines that remain constant on the same place for minutes? I’ve seen old film footage, and the lines should be random. The permanent lines are very distracting.

Also, the overall reduction in visual quality was made on purpose, as stated by the editor, but I get it may be annoying to some.

A great slogan for the film, in the words of the editor: “Drug use will be neither confirmed nor denied.” Good one, funny.

Disclaimer: I’ve given my input to the editor before release, regarding only one scene; my name is mentioned on the “special thanks” section by the editor. However, this has not distorted my review.

Well, you see, the vertical lines move in the fourth dimension. It's just that us humans can't grasp anything beyond our primitive three dimensional thinking.

Jokes aside, I think you're right about the lines. I wanted the movie to look like a really, really bad film print that's had a bad day, and the vertical lines were added in to make that effect while still making the film visible enough that it wasn't too distracting. But it sounds like the still scratches are doing the opposite. I'll see about updating the edit in the future to remove the still scratches when I find the time to do so.

Thanks for your input, and I'm glad you enjoyed the rest!
