Loved this muchly.
Whilst the first 2 Alien movies are undisputed masterpieces, Alien3 has always been closer to the Venus de Milo, you have to embrace it's flaws and love it despite what's missing. 15MaF has given the old girl one of her arms back.
Although I always liked the original (so many great performances from great character actors and a really interesting premise) The Assembly/Producers was always the way to go because it felt more like a fully fleshed out movie. However, no care and attention was made in compiling that cut, the effects were sub-par, the lighting could fluctuate wildly and although it was a better movie it wasn't necessarily a better viewing experience. Some of the changes in the Assembly were essential for narative coherence, but some felt like they just had footage that they wanted to use.
15MaF has kept all that made the Assembly essential whilst reinserting the missing goodies from the theatrical cut. That would be enough to make it the 'go to' version, but the fixes to the effects, colour timing etc mean that it now hangs together as a coherent whole.
