Synopsis:
Bootstrap Edition consolidates the trilogy into a single movie, and rewrites the time travel rules from a paradox ridden headache of alternate timelines into a streamlined causal loop.
Intention:
My intention was to rid the trilogy of inconsistent time travel rules and contradictions that fill the original movies with plot holes.
Additional Notes:
The new edit is a non-linear narrative. That's part of the fun of it, I think.
Special Thanks:

Editing Details:
I put all of the events in chronological order, regardless of which timeline they were set in. Then scenes were slowly whittled away if they caused plot holes, contradictions, inconsistencies, etc. All references to cut sequences and alternate timelines were also removed. Putting the events into chronological order was necessary to skip over certain timelines. Multiple versions of scenes are integrated, usually favoring the more dynamic perspective.
Cuts and Additions:
- All events are shown in chronological order
- Most audio is crossfaded to cover up cuts and changes
- Movie begins with the train chase at the end of Part III
- Removed some clips of Clara
- Added new opening credits consolidating the cast and crew from all 3 movies. New credits are based on the original opening credits of Part II. Uses stock footage of clouds to emulate the opening to Part II.
- Removed Doc and Marty examining the family photo. All references to the photo are removed after this point.
- All fading "Ripple Effect" shots are removed. All visual evidence that Doc's constant theorizing that the universe is doomed or changing is never explicitly shown. In this timeline, they are always successful in preventing or correcting it.
- The 1950s scenes from Parts I & II are mixed together and frequently overlap
- Removed scene of Marty writing letter in the diner. Instead, he is shown putting in Doc's coat pocket, and what it says is not made clear until later.
- When Marty is in Strickland's office and backs into the window, the scene outside (George opening the car door) is roto-scoped with a later shot, since he was already shown opening the door. Part I scene of George opening the door is used.
- Earth Angel dance is shortened, removing all the fading hand effects, etc.
- Johnny B. Goode scene alternates between Parts I & II
- Marvin Berry doesn't call Chuck Berry. This is the only shot during the song that caused major continuity errors. In Parts I & II, the desk is facing opposite directions.
- The time circuits are cropped to hide that Part II Doc and Marty arrived from the 1980s. Later edits imply that they arrived from 2015.
- Original ending from Part II fades out, and Part III fades back in at Doc's house
- The parts of Doc's letter requesting he not be saved are removed. All the gravestone scenes are removed. Instead, Marty just goes to 1885 to save Doc.
- 1980s scenes start at the Lone Pine Mall. "Twin Pines" sign is not shown.
- Act I Mall Scene is mixed with Act III Mall scene from alternate perspective
- Marty's surprise at his changed house and improved life are trimmed so that he just appears overwhelmed and relieved, rather than surprised at the changes.
- Biff is absent from the 1980s scenes
- Opening of Part II with Elizabeth Shue is used. Shot of the three characters in the car is cropped to exclude her.
- Scenes from the end of Part III removes Jennifer on the porch and the race with Needles. Instead, Marty just runs home, then returns to the wreck with Jennifer.
- The "You're Fired!" fax is removed. This happened to remove a continuity error in the original, and we don't see the kid motion at the camera either.
- Hell Valley scenes are not shown, since in this timeline they never happened.
- Doc and Marty arriving in 2015 excludes Jennifer, uses alternate shots, and greatly reduces the dialogue. As they fly into town, the movie fades to black.
- No future scenes were included. The whole reason they travel to the future in the original is to change history, something that can't happen in this FanEdit version. While I did create a future sequence, it was far too clunky and awkward to ultimately be included.
- Shows THE END title from Part III
- New end credits created by consolidating all of the end credits from the trilogy
- Most audio is crossfaded to cover up cuts and changes
- Movie begins with the train chase at the end of Part III
- Removed some clips of Clara

While this edit has some interesting ideas and the intercutting between BTTF 1 & 2 is impressive, the narrative is incredibly muddled and unclear. It's still enjoyable, because BTTF is great, but telling the story this way doesn't make much sense to me. I feel this could have been a lot shorter if the goal was to highlight the Bootstrap Paradox.

Do you want to make a fan-edit? Are you unsure how far you can push the envelope? Watch this Bootstrap Edition for proof-of-concept. Compliments to QuackAtomic for creating a new experience out of very familiar material.
Editing is technically outstanding. Narrative is,... well, weird. We no longer follow the story from Marty's perspective (going back and forth in time), but chronologically. As outside spectator it feels jumpy to go from 1885 to 1955 to double Marty & Doc to 1985.
This edit doesn't replace the originals, it is an interesting interpretation for fan editors.

Narratively, this is a bit of a mess, particularly in the final act. It's not something that could be easily experienced if you aren't already familiar with the films, but for the most part it's well edited and quite a lot of fun.
I loved how the 1955 segments were edited together - great work there. The opening scene with the train was also a great start. Towards the end though things just got confusing, and I was finding it hard to determine whether the editor was going for an extremely non-linear narrative or just majorly screwing with the time line. It soon became clear after I realised that Marty probably wasn't a time travelling dog (would have been a hell of a plot twist though).
All in all, a fun alternative to the BTTF franchise. A bit messy at points, but it's not a big issue if you're familiar with the story and characters.

I have to agree with previous reviews. It's just too confusing. Which is a shame because if told in a linear manner, this could've been great.

I finally watched this edit today, and it was fantastic. The story works much better when it's only dealing with one timeline. I disagree with the reviews saying that it's confusing, I was able to follow it just fine.
One thing I will say, I think it might've been good to see a bit of 2015 so that we can see Doc and Marty going back to 1955, but it's not a big deal.
But yeah, this edit was great. I'm not the biggest fan of the original Back to the Future, it's not bad by any means but I don't see it as the perfect masterpiece that others do. I think this might be my new preferred way to watch these movies to be honest.
I can't think of all the right words, but I like how the time travel was handled, and overall I just really enjoyed watching this.

What could of been a long, boring 6 hour long edit has been turned into a fast-paced, fresh look at the trilogy.
The 1955 segment is the standout for me, seamlessly intergrating 1 and 2 without any harsh cuts.
Starting out with the train from Part 3 is genius, skipping what is arguably the worst part of the trilogy. And also skipping most of the 1985 stuff adds to the fast pace of the edit.
Overall, a great condensed version of the trilogy that twists and turns that is a lot of fun

QuackAtomic's edit is a great cut of the Back to Future series into an interesting and entertaining singular film.
A/V - Very clean. I didn't notice any pixelization at all. Sound was solid.
Visual Editing - Smooth.
Audio Editing - Smooth as well.
Narrative - To start off, I loved the opening disclaimer. It's little things like that, that I really appreciate in fan edits. The redone opening credits look great. The way the story is intertwined and rearranged is phenomenal, especially in combining the 1955 timelines. The pacing was good and the story flowed. The only negative things I can say are, I wish I saw more of 1885 to explain the opening and give a little more backstory and to have either visited 2015 or have the 2015 ending cut completely. That being said, condensing 3 films full of story into 2.5 hour film that still gets it's point across and is enjoyable, is amazing!
Enjoyment - I had a great time watching this edit!
Thanks QuackAtomic! :]X

Seeing a childhood favourite recut to something fresh was an exiting prospect and QuackAtomic has created a fun new version to enjoy. I had often imagined seeing the 1955 timelines from films 1 & 2 cut together and this edit satisfies. However, with all the references to the Sports Almanac and old Biff I was expecting to venture into 2015, but that is relegated to a rather jarring final moment before the credits as we see the Doc, Marty and Jennifer arrive in the sky over 2015 Hill Valley. Perhaps it would have been best to leave on the original 'joke' ending of film 1 rather than actually show 2015, or, perhaps with more editing, all reference to 2015 may have been cut altogether. A similar issue arises with 1885 as we open with the train escape and never go back. I was left waiting to return but we never do. Perhaps leaving that opening action sequence out altogether and leaving only an intriguing taste for the old west in the Doc's story at the end on the train would serve to leave us to imagine, similar to the future of 2015. Granted all this would be difficult as the timelines are so intertwined. But as much as I am still left wanting to see a full chronological cut of all 3 films it would be a helluva single viewing, so for this to manage to edit roughly 5 hours down to 2.5 and still be a fun watch is an achievement in itself. Well worth a watch for anyone wanting a fresh take on an old classic we all know so well.
