Editing Details:
Other than the cut-list, I also re-framed the film to 2:35:1 (maybe 2:20:1. Somewhere in that vicinity) and altered the colors and lighting to suit my tastes. I wanted the shadows to literally be on the verge of swallowing the characters when appropriate. To have the feeling that you never know what could be lurking only feet away. It may feel almost too dark sometimes (hopefully not, but it depends on your settings) but I wanted to get closer to a live action film, where you don’t necessarily see every detail at all times.

One note to picture quality…the original DVD has several places where the transfer is less than perfect. Some edge noise and color banding are often evident. Re-rendering (and the color correction) has made this more obvious in a handful of places. I did what I could to minimize it, but apologies if it is irritating.
Cuts and Additions:

Edits include: (But not limited to)

Replaced the two WB logos (regular shield and animation dept version) with a single longer one.

Removed entire opening sequence for later use. Film starts with ‘mob meeting’ scene, then goes to the opening credits.

Altered animation and dialogue to remove Batman quipping, “No, you’re anything but good” to thugs.

Altered animation and dialogue to remove clumsy exposition between Batman and the thugs about Amazo.

Removed Amazo punching Batman in the chest hard enough to throw him back 50 feet. He now throws him instead.

Altered animation (two shots) so that Batman does not dent a steel container when he slams into it.

Removed Nightwing’s line, “Packs quite a punch for a toaster on steroids, huh?”

Removed more exposition, this time about Nightwing and the previous Robins.

Removed Nightwing and Batman talking about batarang attack on Amazo.

Removed Nightwing’s line, “Did you know he could fly?!” (And fixed animation slightly so that Amazo/Nightwing don’t fly straight through a girder.)

Removed Nightwing asking for (and getting) advice from Batman on how to attack Amazo.

Altered animation and dialogue to remove Nightwing telling Amazo, “This might sting a bit!”

Altered animation and dialogue to remove Nightwing’s line, “Lasers! He’s got lasers!”

Altered animation and dialogue to remove Nightwing’s lines about putty in the eyes/plastique.

Removed Nightwing telling Batman that, “The shots came from a rooftop. A sniper! A good one.”

Removed close up of Jason Todd’s Robin costume.

Removed Red Hood’s line to himself, “Okay then. Nice night for a run.”

Altered animation and dialogue to remove Nightwing’s lines, “He’s very good!” and “We got him!” Also fixed Nightwing’s eyes, which were drawn oddly off-model for one shot.

Altered animation and dialogue to remove Robin’s riddle.

Added to Ra’s flashback/explanation about Bosnia by using the opening sequence of the film. Restructured, and also altered animation to fit several moved pieces of dialogue so that it fits in with the rest of the flashback material. Removed all footage of Batman racing towards the warehouse.

Altered animation of Ra’s entering the Lazarus pit to fix a transparency goof.

Added in orange tinted glass for shot when Jason jumps through them. (To match all the surrounding windows.)

Removed Joker asking where he knows Red Hood from.

When Red Hood holds his knife to Batman’s throat, re-animated to flip orientation of knife to fix continuity.

Altered animation and dialogue to remove Jason’s “We’re both just a couple of walking armories.” And Batman’s “Maybe so…”

Added in missing bathroom tiles during fistfight. (The space was meant for animation purposes but must have been overlooked.)

Altered Batman’s final takedown of Jason: Originally, Batman waits until Jason fires, then (seemingly) dodges the bullet and throws a batarang that somehow sticks in Jason’s gun barrel. Now, Batman instead waits only until he hears Jason cock the gun, then destroys it using some more of the plastique that took down Amazo at the start of the film.

After the explosion, removed Batman finding Joker safe and well in the rubble. Instead, we just hear the echoing, distant laugh of the Joker as the camera pulls back from the destruction. I preferred to only imply that he may have somehow survived rather than showing it blatantly.

Removed Ra’s watching the Gotham news on his jet, and mention of The Joker being returned to Arkham.

During the end credits, added Bill Finger’s name with Bob Kane’s to the “Batman Created By” listing. Where it rightfully should be.

Bruce Timm needs to see this edit. He would be proud.

Can’t add much that hasn’t been said. As I said elsewhere, the original was great. But UA’s edit is definitive.

I saw this a few years ago and forgot to leave a review. It was one of the first fan edits I ever saw, and it was a great intro to the community. Thank you, Uncanny Antman, for your work on this. Amazing job! Your changes to the plot made a big difference.

Excellent edit, much more fluid than the original. Loved the dark colors and the little changes made to story, keeping the suspense about the Red Hood identity was a very smart move. Enjoyed it a lot.

First off, I'd like to thank Uncanny Antman for helping me when I reached out to him. He responded quickly and kindly to my request, which I think shows some excellent character.

The Batman: Under the Red Hood is one of the best DC Universe Animated Original Movies. It is one of those rare situations where the adaptation is better than the original source material.

Now, Uncanny Antman takes this great movie and almost makes it perfect. His edit is easily the definitive version of this film. He masterfully replaces the original opening sequence with the mob meeting, then reedits in the original opening later in the movie. This edit alone drastically affects the movie and makes it exponentially better. Not only does it make the movie more of a mystery, especially for those unfamiliar with the Batman Mythos, it generates more of an emotional impact later on in the film. Additional cuts such as toning down Nightwing's cheesy banter and making the final confrontation scene more realistic also positively affect the movie. Although I think Neil Patrick Harris did a decent job as Nightwing, his quips are relentless, so taking a chunk that cheese out really helps the movie. Also, UA's edit of the final confrontation makes Batman's actions way less superhuman and more like... well, Batman! That's a good thing.

I think my only complaint about this edit is how the original opening sequence was edited in. The placement in the movie was perfect, but it's execution was a little awkward at one point.
*Spoilers*
The scene is when Batman confronts Ra's Al Ghul and learns about Jason Todd. The original sequence played at the beginning of the movie has Batman racing on his motorbike to save Jason, with the music especially dramatic when showing batman on his bike, then slowing down to show a struggling Jason. UA's edit works well here for the most part: UA edits out the Batman on the bike action, but keeps the scenes with Jason, which adds to Ra's explanation of the events that occurred. However, there is an instance where the music is in a crescendo as Jason struggles to get to the door, then as the music gets dramatic again (which I think originally cuts to batman on his bike), it now cuts to Batman and Ra's standing there. Batman squints, then Ra's closes his eyes... I just found this transition awkward and it took me out of the moment a little. I think it would have been better just to let the Jason scene continue to play out instead of cutting back to Bats and Ra's. I think I understand why UA did that though. There's only an animation for Jason starting to crawl to the door and for Jason reaching the door, with Batman on his bike originally in between these moments. So it may have been awkward to have Jason suddenly appear by the door. I will say on my second viewing of this edit, I was less irked by this. However, I still think it could be handled a little differently

I know this might have been a bit nit picky, but this is seriously my only complaint about this edit.
*end of spoilers*

Beside that, I seriously loved this UA's take on this movie. This will be the version I will be showing to others. Uncanny Antman truly made a great movie excellent. Now do yourself a favor and watch this.

Now my only wish is for Uncanny Antman to make a HD version ;)

First off not many times will i rate a edit 10 out of 10. But this one deserves every bit of it. Red Hood is one of my favorite Batman animations. I never really thought of it having much dead weight or any real issues. It was just a epic batman animation including the original Robin all grown up as Nightwing, there are shout out's about Batgirl being paralyzed by the Joker and just a ton of great nods shown to the source material which doesn't happen alot. That being said I went into this edit a little apprehensive about it after reading the cut list but I have to say UA did an amazing job. The edit seemed a little short at first but when i looked at it, with all the cuts and trimming the edit comes in at just over 1 hour and 11 minutes. Which seems way short, but even the most recent of today's DC animated movies only clock 1 hour and 15. Not only has UA managed to speed up the pacing he removed what at the time didn't seem like over burdening exposition. All these cut's are done perfectly and with extreme grace.

All and all this is the best animated Fanedit I have seen to date.

First of all, I wanna say that I like so much the original release of this film, mostly because the comic in which is based really sucks, and the film made the film look good.

UncannyAntman's UTRH is an unique experience, Specially the edit of ratio aspect, looks good, is closer to a theatrical version.

The changes in somethings are awesome (the orange sea, instead green, the plastic instead the batarang, the blood in the assasination of Black Mask's henchmen, and (thanks god) Nightwing's speeches).

The flashback scene actually gave me chills, the original version did not did to me, but this made me scare the s*** out of fear.

What I could say, the comic arc sucks, the original release is a good film, this is the piece of a master, you must edit films to Warner... OMG, I forgot it, the change of WB logo; Incredible!!! I didn't notice the change.
