Synopsis:
Cue Rod Serling voice: "Tony Soprano is a man lost in a world of his own making, trapped in the one place he can't escape: his mind. Is a man more than his name? Can he make his own path even as the path is forced before him? Only so much can be done when the world pulls you to your seemingly-inevitable destiny... in The Sopranos."

This is a coma-only edit of two episodes from Season 6 of the Sopranos, telling the story of a salesman who can't seem to find his way back to the world he came from. Something is happening, but he's just not sure what, and finding out might be the last thing he ever does.
Intention:
Watching the Sopranos again, I was inspired to cut together a quick 25-min "one-off tv episode" about a man in a coma and the world he experiences while he's unconscious. Season 6 of The Sopranos, to me, tells the story of a man struggling with the weight of his life even as that life slips away from him, and how he desperately wants to let go of the burden but can't bear to. I think it works very well as a standalone story, and it's a fun quick little edit, my first one. It took me about 10-12 hours to get it all smoothed out, mostly because I was learning the Premiere Pro program as I went, but now I'm excited to make more!
Special Thanks:
Very special thanks to Wraith, DonkeyKonga, and ArtisDead for being super cool and welcoming me into the community. The back-and-forth's I shared with them really helped cement how much I wanted to stick around, review others' work, and follow through with the edits I'm planning, so thanks for encouraging and educating me!
Release Information:
Digital
Cuts and Additions:
Added the IFDB disclaimer to the beginning.
Created a hospital opening using scenes from non-coma moments to bookend the episode.
Deleted anything else that is not directly from Tony's coma dream. This means any time we cut to the "real world" of New Jersey.
Connected all coma scenes using overlap audio from the "real" world where necessary
Bridged the two episodes using the credits music from S6E2, Moby's "When It's Cold I'd Like To Die"
Added new credits reflecting the edited cast and crew
Added an instrumental version of the Sopranos theme, Alabama 3's "Woke Up This Morning," over the credits.

You know an edit has promise when you're pissed you didn't think of it first. This is a great edit. The editor's hand is invisible and the story has great flow. The only thing I would've changed was removing the shot of Tony in the hospital from the opening. It would give the viewer a little more mystery as to exactly what's happening as it progresses and then have the reveal at the end. And, very small point, it looks like the end credits are a different AR than the main feature - there's horizontal black bars as the credits roll that aren't there on the feature. Highly recommended to fans of the show or anyone who likes fanedits that are a little out there.

Thank you very much for the feedback! I will try to fix the issue with the black bars at the end :)

As a extremely casual viewer of the Sopranos, I hadn't gotten that far into it . After catching up via friends and such, I mainly understand the gist. After watching this edit, I felt like I really don't need to take time and view the actual series. A great job at conveying everything so clearly. Thanks.

I'm happy you enjoyed it! There really is a lot more to the Sopranos as a show, so if you get bored and want to give it a chance I highly recommend binge watching it :) Thanks for the review!

I never finished the Sopranos after season 2. I'm not a fan of mafia movies/shows.

Thankfully this edit is probably even better without any knowledge of the show. It's a pretty perfect edit. The narrative flows well, and has just the right amount of eerie to make you feel something is 'off'.

Funny how viewers interpret things differently. The previous reviewer said he'd have preferred a bit more mystery. Imo the opening show is what makes the edit special. It doesn't try to be mysterious, but tries to show you what it's like to be unconscious. It shows you the helplessness and doesn't try to trick you. In a way this edit reminds me of the movie 'the Father' which also tries to give you a glimpse into a broken mind.

Highly recommended, and I craved more after the 26 minutes were over. I agree with previous reviewers on that end, but imo that only means a 10/10 is deserved. Creating a craving for more is not an easy thing to accomplish. Well done Jason!

Thank you very much for leaving a review, and I'm glad you liked it! I wonder if there's some more I can do to expand the story without compromising the original idea.

This is an interesting curio....

Top marks on Technicals.

The fact that this not only works as a mini yarn, but actually engages the viewer is interesting indeed.

The narrative flows believably, given the context, and the isolation of this material allows one to appreciate a gentler side of Gandolfini's performance as an actor...something which is not common in the series proper.

It is no criticism on the editor that enjoyment and narrative are scored 9s. I felt that I want more, but alas there is no more.

Definitely worth a watch and thanks for extracting this mosel of extra TONE.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a review! I'm also a bit sad there isn't more footage, when I had the idea I was positive it would be an hour long haha
