Review Detail

Been about 5 years since I saw the original, couldn't remember it great detail apart from not feeling entirely engaged with the fantasy world. For whatever reason that was not the case when watching this edit, while the story is pretty simple the visuals and soundscape are plenty to keep me interested, I can remember there being far more narration previously but its absence improves the atmosphere.

Returning to the original Skeksis dialogue really emphasises their other-worldliness, I didn't use a subtitle track (to help in this regard) and didn't find myself confused by the story, though someone who had never seen it before may feel differently. The one negative was that the re-instated audio is often a bit tinny, as if played through a low-quality speaker, with the transitions occasionally noticeable. Also, about 20 minutes in, the Skeksis talk in English amoungst themselves; when they are communicating with outsiders this makes sense, but at this point I'm wondering if it's an editing oversight as I think the meaning is still clear.

It's been long enough since I've seen the theatrical version to say for certain whether this edit is better, but I am pretty sure that it is!
