Synopsis:
By removing Edward Norton’s voiceover, FIGHT CLUB gets to be a much more introspective and artsy film.
Intention:
Shortly after seeing Fight Club in the theater, a friend commented “Imagine how awesome it would be without any of the voiceover.” He was right.
Release Information:
DVD
Editing Details:
Edward Norton’s voiceover has been completely removed, making this a much more introspective and “arty” film. I believe it puts you even MORE inside the head of the main character. It’s kind of hard to explain, really. You’ll have to check it out.
The narration is completely in the center channel of the 5.1 mix, so I simply faded out any instance of it. I had to use the soundtrack to fill in a few musical holes, had to do a bit of foley work (new audio for the Ron Popeil infomercial on TV, whistling as Jack is leaving his job with the shopping cart), and had to trim a second or two off a couple of shots (very minimal and unintrusive).

Apart from video quality (and sometomes audio editing) being below standard (the edit is from 2008), everything else is well done.

The idea for this is remarkable. Since the narration is such a big part of the original film, I’d thought it wouldn’t work that well, but it does. It actually changes the style and even the genre of the film.

Every fan of the original should experience this edit.

This is one of the first fanedits I saw many years ago, and it made me realise how irritating the voiceover is in the original. I cannot watch Fight Club anymore, this edit is definitely superior for me. The AV quality isn't the best, and sometimes it's obvious the voiceover has been removed, but these are honestly minor gripes compared to the improvements this edit makes to the original.

I was absolutely amazed how well this worked. The narration is so ingrained into this movie and yet when it’s gone it makes things... weirder and stronger. Theatrical Fight Club is still superior but any Fight Club fan needs to see this fanedit.

The editing was smooth overall but sometimes it got really noticeable when the center channel would go out. A lot of these awkward silences helped the scene though so no big deal.

The first thing that comes to mind when starting watching this edit. Is the feeling of knowing a secret about the movie. Since i've seen the original more than a couple of times.
But just after 10-15min, the movie opens up and it feels like you're watching the movie for the first time. Not having the narration, opens the movie up. And you get to see so many other things in the movie.
This is my new way of watching this movie. The editing is 10/10, the movie narrative of the movie actually got stronger.

I really recommend this movie to everyone who is a fan of the original movie

I did enjoy this edit, it's just a shame the video quality is not very good.

No narration turns this movie into a completely different experience. It won't replace the 'original', but I'll be watching this version every so often whenever I'm in the mood to watch Fight Club again.

Let me begin with saying that I've watched the original dozens and dozens of times. This is one of my favorite movies and I'll never get tired of it. In that light, because of the lack of narration I often found myself listening closer... and closer... and watching closer... listening for that narration... and because of this, I noticed uncountable details in the video itself that I've never noticed before. Did you ever notice the toilet paper next to the toilet filled with used condoms? Did you ever notice the big metal thing that sits up on the refrigerator? Notice all of those clamp lights scattered about the kitchen? Or how about the saran wrap that lined the trays they were using as forms for soap?

This movie is so much more deep without narration. The story tells itself, it doesn't need narration. In the void of the voice over, I saw a rain forest of details that I never was able to notice because I was too busy listening to and analyzing the voice...

If you're a fight club fan, you must see this at least once!

Visual editing gets a 6 because it's a nice neutral number because there was absolutely zero visual editing. Audio editing gets a 10 because there were zero moments where the audio was choppy or felt edited what-so-ever. The narrative gets an 9 because there is no narration... those parts are missing, but 9 is still a very positive number because it helps the story intensely. Audio/Video quality gets a 10 because it's DVD quality or better. Enjoyment is easily a 10. I may re-watch this edit because it was so enjoyable....

But I could be bias (I am). This is one of my favorite movies ever, after all. :-)

Yiss! This edit is awesome! There was so much narration that this completely changes the film. You'll notice more details. The scene where he is at work, and glares at his boss feels more genuine and awkward, and you get a sense that Edward's character is somewhat of a dick. The plot twists are less jarring.

It really opens it up. The story is better told, and feels better paced and more epic. The story still makes sense, perhaps even moreso, and you will never got lost, even if this were your first viewing. This means that the narration was truly superfluous.

Watch it. This edit should have been more popular.
