Maybe it is an easter egg or maybe they made it as on THE ISLAND, where the director's commentary is on the ROM part of the DVD as interacitve feature.
I am looking very forward to this. I love L.A. story, it is my favoure Steve Martin movie (I like it even better than Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid).

My favorite Steve Martin movie is Leap of Faith.

I really liked to LA Story too.

Unfortunately, L.A. Story's commentary was an advertised, never delivered feature. (At least, that's what all my researching back when it was released pointed to.)

And The Island? ...my copy has the commentary as a selectable feature. What's this business of ROM only? Weird!

Maybe a difference to the German release.

That's pretty funny. I read a review where they mention the commentary. You'd think if it was absent from their disc they would have mentioned it.

Also reviews of the re-release complained that there was no commentary like the first disc.

Maybe it's one of those things, everyone thinks they had it, but it was never there. Or perhaps just on advanced discs sent to reviewers.

Btw, I'm currently posting ongoing detials on OT.com, but I will officially announce in the next day or two with full details. I was just hoping a rescued commentary track would be one of them.

Yeah, I guess advance copies may have had it...the ones that claim to have had it never seem to have any hard evidence though.

And hell, way back when, before the re-release, I was sure I had it too. Went hunting all over for a "proper" copy. :)

(I'd love to find out I was wrong though. A commentary would be great!)

I'm hoping someone steps in and hooks us up.
If so I'll definitely sync and add it to this since so many people got burned.

"This house is nearly 20 years old!!!"

I love this movie. Can?t wait to see it. Doctor M would you mind posting the link to OT for the details...?

According to DVDTalk Forum's list of defective DVDs:

L.A. Story - Special Edition
[Artisan]
Problem: Director's commentary is advertised on the back of the packaging, but is not on the disc. Please leave a post if anyone can verify this.
Solution: None.

Also: I'm in need of a sound effect for this edit. Does anyone have a lightbulb popping (like on the sign)?
The only time it occurs in the movie is with music in the background and I need a clean version.

my run for the front.
There is still a little bit of cleaning up to do on the poster art, this is also a low quality version of the picture I work with.

Maybe very standard, but effective, I thought.
Just tell me what you think.

I finished cleaning up the dirt now. Perhaps you can spot the differences.

Good cleanup of the compression artifacts. Was the picture I sent you in that bad of a condition? I have a better quality BMP that the jpg I sent you was from if you'd like that.
Heck I can snap you a new image at higher resolution too.

The RUOK line of dialog could be bigger (about double if it will fit).

I don't know how I feel about the Digitally Enhanced bit. It is funny but it feels like a rip-off of ADM's logo.
It IS what I always felt his text should have said though.

And while it feels generic, I wouldn't want you to change the FAN to say Dr. M.

I was thinking, maybe we could use it as a generic FanEdited.com logo that can be made available and any member here can use. Sort of a badge of quality and solitarity or something.

Btw, I wouldn't mind "A Doctor M Release" put on the front like you did for the Matrix films.

"Fan edited enhanced" makes no sense to me. It is the one CI created for all fanedits, so I used it.
The picture was in a terrible condition, but I think the one I have now is ok already. But If you think I lost too mcuh detail, then send me a better one by all means.
As for the rest: I am on it.

Oh I thought I sent you the other pic... emailing it now.

Edit: I figured you'd read it as
Fan Edited: Digitally Enhanced For...

But if others are using what you've got as it is, that's fine then.

This could be it.
I send you the full version, so you can see all the text better.
