The masterful film adaptation of Joan Lindsay's novel received a director's cut in 1998, adding a couple of minor scenes but also removing seven minutes of odd shots, scene trims and an entire subplot. While the theatrical version is available on DVD it seems that Peter Weir went the way of George Lucas, with the only source seemingly being a cropped and generally far inferior transfer.
This edit integrates nearly all the excised footage (barring around 8 seconds) back into the director's cut to make the longest version yet, with image adjustments made to the restored scenes in an attempt to make them stand out less. In some cases shots ordered differently in the DC were put back to the original way over the TV soundtrack, new edits were occasionally required to blend footage from the different sources as smoothly as possible.
