Continuing my appreciation for the Pirates of the Caribbean films, especially the sequels (On Stranger Tides does not count), I've decided to make an extended Edition of Dead Man's Chest.  This fan edit would be for people who appreciate Dead Man's Chest as much as i do.  I don't know if it's me but even with all it's flaws and I believe it's overlong, I still find enjoyable this film, full of very funny, dramatic and epic moments, and extra scenes would help a lot to feed this universe it wanted to create.  These are the scenes I will try to add.  It's important to notice some of these scenes don't have completed special effects, so I will probably left some bits out of these extended scenes or leave them out entirely.

-Extended talk between Will and Beckett about why the East India Trading Company is in the Caribbean.

-Extended scene where Jack is searching for a bottle of Rum.  We see one of the crew members is not happy with Jack and we see Jack messing around a little bit with the animals.

-Extended scene where Governor Swann gives Elizabeth a Gun while they are trying to escape.  We learn Beckett knows the Governor has contacts and that might be a problem for him.

-Extended scene with a little bit of drama where Beckett says to Elizabeth he wants Jack's compass.  After that, we see one of the guards was sleeping, explaining why Elizabeth could enter to Beckett's office.  Funny part in my opinion.

-Extended scene with Jack in the Pelegostos Island where he implies the Pelegostos eat their own children.  Sounds horrible, but in the context of the scene is actually funny.  After this, we see a little bit more of Will and the crew in the cages a little bit longer.

-Extended scene where the crew swim for their lives after they break the cages.  They begin to laugh because they don't believe they are alive after falling so high, but then the chase continues after one of the members dies from an arrow in his chest, thrown by one of the Pelegostos.

-Extended scene where Jack tries to escape, cutting the rope in his ankle, after the long fall.

-Extended scene where Will talks to Jack about the Letters of Marque Beckett is sending to him in exchange for his compass, but Jack is not interested and manipulates Will to his own benefit.

-Extended scene where Gibbs talks about the Kraken while they go to Tia Dalma's House.  In this segment, we learn that Davy Jones doesn't want to kill Jack, but to punish him with his worst nightmare, stretching on and on forever.  This scene was cut in the film and then this detail was explained in At World's End as consequence.

-Extended scene where Elizabeth tries to convince the crew of the ship where she is hiding to go to Tortuga in a ghostly way with the Haunted Dress, but does not succeed.

-Extended scene of Will talking to Bootstrap after the lashes he received.  Bootstrap reveals that crew members of the Dutchman live forever and become slaves, but also they suffer from dementia and begin to forget important memories.

-Extended Dice Game.  This time we will there was actually a previous Dice game before the one we see in the film.  In this Dice Game, Will wins the game and wins his father's freedom, as well we see how Will Discusses with Jones about fate.  This particular scene is important because helps to make more sense why Will was concerned about Bootstrap joining the game and him losing it.  Without this scene, we don't know Bootstrap was freed, and after they end the game, looks like Bootstrap did not lose anything of value because he was already bound to the Dutchman.

-Extended scene where Jack humilliates Norrington and talks to Elizabeth about the Letters of Marque.

-Extended scene where Davy Jones summons the Kraken.  Davy Jones seems angry about Will taking his key and Bootstrap believes Jones is going to punish Will, but then he reveals he is not going to punish him, but to kill him.

-Extended scene where Will tries to get help from one of the crew members after the ship is destroyed, but they are killed by the Kraken.

-Extended scene where Pintel and Ragetti talk about the pronunciation of Kraken.  Then we see a little bit of Elizabeth and Norrington talking about Isla Cruces and it's story.

-Extended scene where Jack tries to convince Will he can't trust Norrington, and Norrington tries to convince Will he can't trust Jack.

-Extended fight sequence between Jack, Norrington and Will for the key in the beach.

-One shot is added which has to do with the scene of Elizabeth talking about Isla Cruces' story.

-Finally, an extended scene where Norrington gives Beckett the Heart of Davy Jones.  We see Norrington will be promoted and Beckett has the intention of adding the Dutchman to his fleet to begin his war against piracy.  This plan can also be noted in the Map painted in his wall.

Hey, what about the extended stuff between Will and Cotton's parrot on Pelegostos?

That one is not included in the deleted scenes i own D:  In Fact, i didn't know that scene ever existed D:

This is the first clip i'm showing you of the Extended Edition.  Here Mr. Gibbs tells more information about why Jack is afraid of open water and about Davy Jones and his locker.  I had to use music from the first film and then used the tracks from the original scene where i felt they belong.

In this scene I added a shot of Jack trying to go up.  For that shot i used chroma key effects because in the background there was only blue screen.  I might adjust some little details in that part but i feel it works, it gives the feeling there is some solid background.

After Jack falls, he tries to free himself from the bamboo with a knife.

Here is another clip.  In this scene we can see a little bit more of Davy Jones talking to Bootstrap before beginning to summon the Kraken.  For this scene, I had to put some shots to cover the unfinished special effects where it was needed.  Followed by this, i had to do some cuts here and there to take out those unfinished effects.  Finally I added the music from the original scene.

This Project is almost done.  Every scene has been added to the film properly.  I just need to make some adjustments to the sound effects.  Some of the scenes don't have sound effects or don't have music.

It's cool to see more POTC works.

So, what's the approximate final running time?

The Total Length is going to be 2 hours and 45 minutes.  Without credits, it's 2 hours and 36 minutes.  It's 15 minutes longer than the original film :)

It is important to note there is not a continuity with At World's End Extended Edition.  Some scenes were cut in Dead Man's Chest because they felt they were not esential to the story, so they fix this including that information into At World's End.  For example, there is a scene where Gibbs talks about Davy Jones Locker and what awaits people who go there, but this was cut and instead they pass the torch to Tia Dalma, who says what they will see in Davy Jones Locker to Pintel and Ragetti.

Norrington is promoted and given the sword Will forged to him in Dead Man's Chest, but this was cut.  In At World's End, we see Norrington is recently promoted and given the sword.

The Dice Game, in my opinion, the most important scene of this extended Edition.  I replaced some lightning sound effects, I added some music where it was needed (although basically most of the scene was already edited with music) and the sound effect of Davy Jones walking with his pegleg.

This fan edit is ready to be rendered. It will probably uploaded by the weekend.  Here is the cover which my good friend Masirimso made for me :)

I'm dealing with some troubles with the quality, so i haven't finished the fan edit yet, but this will be fixed soon.

Some of the Deleted scenes of the film have issues with the sound because they are shown in a raw way.  In this Deleted scene, for example, there was a lot of background noise, particularly a lot of water, but with my humble limited skills of sound mixing, i have rebuilt the sound for the deleted scene. Raining, strong wind, lightning, snoring, footsteps, chicken, goats, the ship's cracking from inside, knocking sound effects and music were all mixed by me.

Sounds incredible!

How about uploading the same clip but with just your soundfx. I'd be interested to hear it.

Sorry, i don't understand your request

I'm thinking on uploading a clip of another scene to show the differences between the original raw one and the later one modified by me.

This was a tricky scene to work with the sound because there is a lot of noise in the background, as you can hear in this sample over here.

http://https://vimeo.com/171136980[/video]

In my version, I tried to modify it by adding a background sound to match the noise in the original raw scene. I had to add the splashes in the water sound effects because of the swimming and the body falling dead, i added a "spitting water" sound effect for Gibbs, water spilled, arrow shot and piercing the asian guy (which was in the other video but i forgot to delete it to note the difference), and new music all mixed together.  I had to cut the part where Will says "take cover!" because it could not be saved, the sound of the original deleted scene in that part was too poor.

Probably not the best example of rebuilding sound, but in my opinion now it has improved.  Some other scenes have been modified too in order to fix the sound effects.

I mean... in your project timeline, silence the original movie soundtrack (The dialogue etc), then you'll only hear the soundfx you added to the soundscape. Then upload that to Vimeo.
