Originally Released: November 2012

Original running time: 143 minutes approx
New running time: 118 minutes approx
Cut time: 25 minutes
Started Edit: January 2014
Completed Edit: November 2014

Synopsis and Purpose of Edit:

Join Daniel Craig on his third outing as Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007, where he finds himself embroiled in his most personal adventure yet.

With an invaluable hard-drive stolen, containing the names of every undercover secret agent operating in the field, Bond finds himself in a race against time to recover the drive and save the lives of his fellow agents. However, what he uncovers is a plot which goes much deeper into not only MI6, but also into a personal vendetta which could have horrific reprecusions.

The purpose of Skyfallen is purely to streamline this 50th anniversary movie in an attempt to tighten the pacing somewhat. Also, it's to rein in some of Bardem's overacting in the part of the main villain, Silva, and hopefully make him a bit more threatening in the process. Subtle edits are also attempted to give it that "classic" Bond feel, including use of music from other Bond movies.

Cutlist:

- Gun barrel sequence moved to the start of the film

- Cut Bond's quips about not needing the wing mirrors as they are broken off

- Pre-credits chase sequence shortened (including removal of blatant "product placement" dialogue about the VW Bettle cars falling off the train)

- Adele's Skyfall title song removed and replaced

- Very brief shot of the bulldog figure on M's desk, cut (we see this again later)

- cut slight product placement shot of Bond drinking Heiniken whilst he's "enjoying death", in bed with a woman.

- cut Eve's line "Then you better keep moving"

- Trimmed scene at airport where Bond witnesses Patrice arriving in Shanghai. Bond’s attempt at disguise, by keeping his sunglasses on whilst inside the airport at night makes him far too conspicious. Now you just see him from behind.

- slightly trimmed Bond’s witnessing of Patrice killing the security guards, only by getting Bond into the building more quickly (rather than seeing him walking all the way from his car to the building entrance

- Trimmed some of the build up to Bond's confrontation with Patrice directly before their fight

- Cut Eve giving Bond a shave, now she just turns up says what is needed and the scene ends with Bond saying "I like to do some things the old fashioned way"

- Rearranged scene where Bond arrives at the casino to edit awkward one-liners between Bond and Eve

- Trimmed some of the dialogue between Bond and Severine

- cut Bond's fight with Severine's bodyguards and the encounter with the komodo dragon

- Added music (by David Arnold from Die Another Day soundtrack) when Severine is waiting for Bond on her yacht

- Intro to Silva's character heavily trimmed (in an attempt to rein in the over the top nature of Bardem's performance)

- Re-edited scene where Silva shoots Severine. Added music from David Arnolds's Casino Royale soundtrack and
Bond now appears as if he actually cared for her and is bothered by Silva's actions

- Trimmed scene where Bond catches up with Silva in the underground tunnels. Silva now wastes no time with talking and just detonates the bomb. Thereafter trimmed the scene of the underground train coming through the hole Silva has created.

- Re-edited scene where M is giving her speech about defending MI6, cutting her recital of the Tennyson poem.

- Trimmed Aston Martin DB6 scene

- Scenes at Skyfall when Bond, M and Kincade prepare for the arrival of Silva and his men are slightly trimmed, including no more "A-Team" style montage and traps

- Silva's arrival restructured with extensive sound replacement work, meaning no music playing through the helicopters outboard speakers. Again the intention is to make him more threatening and serious

- Entire battle sequence at Skyfall is trimmed. This includes less importance placed on the Aston Martin being destroyed

- After the helicopter crashes into Skyfall, reframed scenes so it appears only Silva and Bond have survived. Silva's henchmen die in the explosion.

- Removed scene where Bond goes across the ice and then encounters Silva and his remaining henchman

- Silva's death trimmed

- Rooftop scene where Eve shows Bond what M left him in her will, now has added music from Casino Royale in an attempt to lend the scene more emotion and that classic Bond feel

- Eve's formal introduction as Moneypenny to Bond, slightly trimmed.

- Added Within Temptation's cover of Adele's Skyfall to end credits.

I always love reading the cut scene lists and yours didn't disappoint. I couldn't get why the reviewers loved this movie, it just feels far more Mission impossible than bond.
In recall that the whole hard disc plot device was kinda forgotten by the end of the film, is this the same with this edit also?

Thanks yoshif8tures... hopefully the cutlist will live up to expectations ;)

Yeah, I'm afraid the whole hard disc plot device is indeed forgotten by the end of the film, and there was no way I could see to remedy this... of course, in some parallel universe there is a spin-off movie to Skyfall, entitled "The MI6 Agent Hunt".

Great cut list. Knew someone would get rid of the Home Alone spots.

Thanks Zarius... yeah, I never ever cared for the "traps" scenes. I literally started thinking of Mike Post's A-Team theme! lol

Thanks reaper... perfect Bond edits???? nah, I reckon I could have done more with QOS: Bond's Revenge in hindsight, but hey, thanks for the praise :)

Hope you enjoy Skyfallen.

This looks great! You removed all the stuff which bothered me about the original without altering what worked. Very eagerly anticipated!

Thanks Ranger :) perhaps great minds really do think alike.

I checked this out at lunch today, but it looks like there isn't an IFDb listing yet for a review. Until then, I'll say it's a definite improvement.

Spoilers follow

It feels more serious and a lot of the "mum" stuff feels less on the nose. It's still deeply flawed imo, through no fault of the editor. Silva, while toned down, still has a ridiculously complicated (unnecessarily so) plot. I often refer to Nolan movies as Rube Goldberg plots and this.feels very much the same. As stated, the mum subtext (if you could even call it that) is toned down. I wouldn't have minded all references changed to the traditional "M" but that may have been too tall a task. Overall I enjoyed it. The cinematography is still the highlight of the movie for me, but I could see watching Skyfallen again. The same could not be said for Skyfall.

Oh cool it's already up on the regular site, getting it now!

i was thinking about doing a QOS fanedit of my own some time, but at the moment im still doing the crow salvation (im stuck doing all new audio for car chase scene) so maybe when i finish that.

Just a heads up to thank everyone for their reviews on Skyfallen so far. Really glad to see you've all enjoyed it thus far. For taking the time out to review the edit, you guys all rock ;)

I listened to the Commentary last night and it was very interesting! :-)

Thanks so much for the hardwork on that (4 times to record?!). I'm addicted to film commentaries and this was easily of a professional standard (Fan commentaries when done badly, can be horrendous :-D). One thing it highlighted was the complete replacement of the sound during Silva's Helicopter arrival at Skyfall. I had no idea from listening to the fanedit, great job. Also the time and space issues you fear during the approach to the church aren't noticeable at all IMO.

Hey TM2YC, many thanks for your comments. Anybody willing to listen to me rattling on for 2 hours deserves a lot of credit I say :)
I honestly don't know why I struggled so much on this commentary. My head just wasn't in the right frame of mind before I attempted it the 4th time. Then I just seemed to get into a rhythm quite easily.

Sound replacement work... sigh... a faneditor's nemesis, but hey, I'm always up for the challenge and I'm glad the helicopter scene worked out okay. Also reassuring to hear that the time difference is not noticeable during Bond's approach to the Chapel.

Again, thanks for listening and I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

My thanks to Neglify for his thoughts on Skyfallen :) Always a pleasure to hear you've enjoyed the edit Neg.
