Synopsis:
Jason Voorhees is dead - killed at the hands of 12 year old Tommy Jarvis. Now, 6 years later an institutionalized Tommy is plagued by nightmarish images of the psychopath he killed. He is taken to a Pinehurst Halfway House in an attempt to reintroduce him into society. However, when a spate of murders starts up around Pinehurst, it looks very much like the work of Jason. But Jason is dead... isn't he?
'Jason's Legacy' is an attempt to streamline a movie which suffers from characters who are introduced solely to be killed off straight away. The idea is to refocus the killings on the inmates of Pinehurst as much as possible. Heavy colour correction also attempts to paint the film in the same light as Joseph Zito's excellent preceding chapter, 'The Final Chapter'. Happy Friday the 13th!

Intention:
I'm a huge Friday the 13th fan, but I've always had problems with Part V so I wanted to try and refocus the film and bring it more in line with how 'The Final Chapter' felt.

This was a very enjoyable take on F13 #5. The first time I watched this movie I hated it, mainly because of the twist ending. But on further rewatches I have grown to like it. It's not in my Top 5 for the franchise, it's in the middle. This edit aims to move it along and cut down the lame side-characters, keeping the story focused on the main group of kids. I thought that was well done and the story never dragged for me.
I definitely recommend this if you're going to do a Friday the 13th marathon and you don't want to waste too much time with Part V (unless you're some Canadian in love with the original).

Overview - Botched relaunch of the Friday 13th franchise, widely scorned by Jason fanboys. Root failure stems from atrocious writing, though inept, formulaic direction did not help, nor did primarily grade D acting which rarely rose above high school level. Last Survivor remedies those deficiencies by slight rearranging of the plot and extensive trimming.
Video - As would be expected of this editor, quality work here. Picture remains solid throughout. Blacks are stable, and this is a dark film. In rearranging, there is always the risk of shifts in light, especially outdoor lighting, yet there is none of that. One peculiar “error” occurs at 47.36 when the Paramount logo flashes. I take this is left in as a grindhouse joke but it is distracting.
Audio - Solid two channel audio, which is probably more than needed, when mono would have been fine. Dailogue always clear, as is every footstep, and every noisy mode of death.
Narrative - With wholesale editing, there is the risk of losing coherency. Logic does suffer slightly. It is hard to keep up with characters, who even in the original, were little more than the next meal. The whole edit has an outta control roller coaster ride feel to it, though I found that a good thing.
Enjoyment - Never my favorite Friday 13th episode, LS’s edit is a major improvement. His streamlined plot tries to vault plot nonsense with mostly good results (Though one might still wonder about the nonsensical camp for what? Horny teenage delinquents? Funded by our tax dollars?). Some will be disappointed by less kills, but Debisue Voorhees and her spectacular picnic spread remains. Great job, and my go-to for this film from now on.

I liked this edit a lot, it cuts a lot of unnecessary deaths and focuses only on the people at the clinic. With a trimmed story, dialogue and removed characters this is the definitive version of this film. I never really liked this movie, mainly because of the twist ending so the fact that I actually enjoyed it tells just how much it's better then the original in my eyes. With all the cut down lame side-characters, keeping the story focused on the main group of kids, I thought that was well done and the story never dragged for me. I definitely recommend this if you're going to do a Friday the 13th marathon and you don't want to waste too much time with Part V and this is definitely my go version in the future.

It's amazing how much a film can improve once you remove a bunch of pointless scenes.

I liked this edit a lot. It cuts a lot of unnecessary deaths and focuses only on the interns and the crew from the mental clinic. Anyway I think the edit could maintain the kid´s older brother´s death and the redneck death. It would show that "Jason" was stalking the interns and they relatives. But I liked this edit a lot, congratulations!

I loved this edit. I've always loved Part. 5 for its sleazy-ness. Its honestly the most Friday The 13th film of the series in terms of what you think of when you think of the series. It has the most kills, the most tits, the best tits I might add, and the most exploitation feel. I like it for all its faults and its honestly my second favorite in the series after Part 4. I feel that Part 4 and 6 are actually well made films, while 5 is enjoyable on so many levels to me for all of the things that make it bad. The lead actor honestly gives probably the best performance out of all of the Friday films and all the wacky side characters help to enhance his standout acting and give it a certain charm. I love this edit as a true follow up to Part 4, but it doesn't replace the fun sleazy feeling of watching the original cut. I love the original cut of Part 5 in the same way I love Part 8, its just good old 80's charming fun. Thank you for this edit, because now I can decided whether to watch Part 5 as a sleazy exploitation film or as an actually good slasher film. Both versions are great in my eyes.
