Synopsis:
George Miller's Furiosa, with fewer explicit ties to Fury Road, and a modest reduction in runtime.
Intention:
For me, the most interesting part of Furiosa's story is what happens between the end of this one, and the start of Fury Road. The film doesn't explore this at all, which is fine, but by ending the story right when Fury Road begins, it creates this idea that the middle period, where Furiosa is actively working with Immortan Joe just doesn't matter, and can be hand-waved away. By removing the Fury Road bookend, that sense of mystery and intrigue is restored (for me).
Special Thanks:
Spence for previewing.
Release Information:
Digital
Cuts and Additions:
Removed history man introduction.
Removed chapter title (1).
Removed Furiosa being called by name at the beginning in two places.
Removed Furiosa chewing the fuel/water line.
Removed the nighttime sequence during the chase.
Removed the "We're gonna make it!" moment between the bikers.
Removed chapter title (2).
Removed history man telling Furiosa to make herself useful.
Removed wide shot of vehicles in the transition (no longer needed).
Removed blood sausage interlude.
Removed Scrotus and Rictus introducing themselves.
Removed title for Gas Town.
Removed Smeg punching in numbers on the device.
Removed chapter title (3).
Removed Rictus talking to the workers and getting them amped up.
Removed Rictus examining Furiosa.
Removed the mechanic talking about the various components they'll use for the war rig (two engines, 2000 found parts, etc.)
Removed introduction to the bommy knocker.
Removed Jack's introduction entirely and Furiosa seeing him. [Furiosa has no introduction in Fury Road. I think it's more interesting if we also aren't given information about Jack by the script].
Removed gratuitous reaction shot after Furiosa takes down the glider.
Removed chapter title (4).
Changed dream sequence #1 to use some of the images from dream sequence #2.
Removed dream sequence #2 and Furiosa waking up and nearly stabbing Jack.
Removed title for The Bullet Farm.
Removed Furiosa telling Jack "We're good" after they escape the bullet farm. (Note: I do love the symmetry with Mary telling her "We're good" after she rescues young Furiosa; but it feels like some urgency is lost if we pause in this moment).
Removed Furiosa and Jack discussing the plan after escaping the Bullet Farm (eg. how they'll get to the green place). [Instead, we stay with Dementus to keep the momentum]
Removed chapter title (5).
Removed scene where Furiosa is shown "the vehicle". :)
Adjusted timing on final spoken lines ("this is our first fruit...but it's not for you and me."). [Movie ends here; cut to credits]
Removed Furiosa leading the wives into the war rig.
Removed Fury Road clips from end credits.
