A huge amount of work went into this, considering the limited material and the obvious constraints. The editor pretty much achieves all the intended fixes in the narrative. For anyone wanting to rewatch the Show, this is simply much better than the original.
Episode 1 -- The narrative works very well.
Episode 2 – I think Euron Greyjoy is the worst-written character in the entire show (not so much in the books). He is the strongest, greatest, sassiest fighter and has the best ships and armada; and that’s it for his character. No nuance, no arc, no progression – nothing.
Also, the out-of-thin-air 1,000-ship strong armada Euron managed to build in just a few months, on islands that have no trees. I’m of the opinion that the less we see and hear about everything related to this magic armada, the better the show gets.
Episode 3 -- The narrative works well.
Episode 4 -- The cut at 05m04 creates a continuity error, as Jon Snow "teleports" from the beach to the top of the cliff. This could be fixed by inserting another scene in between.
Jorah Mormont seems to fast travel from Oldtown to Dragonstone, a trip that should take many months. We last see him at the end of Episode 3 in Oldtown, then he’s already at Dragonstone at the start of Episode 4.
The small scene at 30m12 could’ve been cut. It’s the magic fleet again, fast traveling to the opposite side of the continent while having to sail all around said continent. The ship-to-ship fire catapults also feel very anachronistic and "soft fantasy-ish" compared to the rest of the series, a medieval-like setting with a bit of magic. Euron Greyjoy also fast travels; we see him in King's Landing in the previous episode, the trip to Casterly Rock should take months. Maybe cutting from the line "there are supposed to be more than this" directly to the dying Lannister soldier (without showing the magic fleet) would fix it.
At 32m16, the line "your brother and his new queen..." is another example of Tyrion being outsmarted by everyone else, something that happens (for some "unknown" reason...) only in the last two seasons of the Show. If the goal is to "remove the dumbing down of Tyrion," this line could’ve been cut.
Episode 5 -- The starting scene, of Tyrion being scolded for his war strategy, is another example of the "dumbing down of Tyrion." It could be removed. This scene also lacks narrative consistency, considering that this same Episode ends with a very effective strategic decision from Tyrion.
At 13m30s, the cut creates a small continuity error related to Arya apparently changing her entire outfit. However, I don’t mind; this cut is ingenious and works very well narratively.
The transition at 20m18s is very noticeable due to both the audio and video cuts.
Episode 6 -- Starting at 13m37s, there a lot of consistency errors and weird cutting, because different scenes were stitched together. One thing is certain, the dialogue and narrative work just fine, this is an example of how the Show could’ve been made if it had better writers.
Very ingenious placement of the attack on King's Landing; it works surprisingly well. The boat attack also stitches together two very different scenes. It doesn’t always work (there’s just not enough material to work with), but it manages to fix the “Dany Kind of Forgot About the Iron Fleet” thing.
Also, great work in fully removing the Mad Daenerys arc.
Episode 7 -- There was a lot of editing to stitch everything together (the transitions were seamless), and an interesting variation in the narrative to "give Bran things to actually do." Quite a shrewd change. This was also a great way to narratively explain the Night King’s interest in making things happen the way they did and his plan to get through the Wall.
Episode 8 -- Really effective editing around the Jon Snow reveal; it highlights the final twist a lot better than the original. For me, this section was the highlight of all 11 episodes – the end result was impressive! The stated goal to "make Arya and Sansa not appear to be so stupid" was well executed.
Episode 9 -- I believe this Episode has the least amount of changes; the original one was also the best of the two seasons.
Episode 10 -- With all fakeout deaths removed, the Episode is a lot more interesting.
Episode 11 -- The audio cut at 22m38s felt out of place. The original audio transition worked much better.
Also, there’s a serious issue with this scene. The previous examples of recorded voiceovers for Bran were very well executed; contrary to those, here the added Bran dialogue is just terrible. The edited flashbacks work very well, so the (kinda childish) narration is not needed at all. The idea and the visual execution is flawless, so they effectively tip of the audience to the twist. The voiceover / narration just spoils it all. “Show, don’t tell”.
At 23m54s, I don’t get the reason for the added VFX blood, it adds nothing to the scene and it looks really fake. Also, the reveal at 29m23s (a great idea, actually) is much better without the previous fake blood.
The Epilogue was competently stitched together (with limited material to work with), I like it a lot.
