Original Release Date:

Fanedit Running Time:
121 minutes
Available in HD:
Synopsis:
The Inferno TV Composite is an extended cut of The Goonies, adding back 3 new scenes that were exclusive to the TV Cut of the film, aired in the 80s. 8 more minutes of footage has been added back in, sourced from the Blu-Ray, DVD and a TV Recording from the 80s.
Intention:
I wanted to put the ever-debated Octopus scene back into the film, as it's referenced in the theatrical film with no context, and many have faint memories of an octopus scene. So I thought to remake this TV cut, without all the censorship.
Additional Notes:
The film has been cropped down from 2.35:1 to 1.78:1 to allow for the new DVD/VHS quality scenes to fit a little nicer as a lot of image area would be lost as the 1.33:1 footage would have 75% of its image lost. So the comprimise was to make the film 1.78:1. Any shots needing specific cropping or spacing have been done accordingly.
Other Sources:
The Goonies Blu-Ray - For the film and the deleted scenes
80s VHS TV Recording - For a small portion of a deleted scene not included on the Blu-Ray
Special Thanks:
Special thanks to jdlc83bkny for sharing the VHS recording
Release Information:
Digital
Special Features:
- Director, Cast and Crew talk Deleted Scenes and Storyboards (9:04)
Cuts and Additions:
- Added the Goonies stopping at a shop right after leaving the house, and meeting Troy, Andy and Stef a little earlier
- Added the Goonies talking outside the Fratelli's hideout about the location, and Data showing off a gadget or two
- Added a giant octopus attacking the Goonies as they approach One Eyed Willie's ship
- Added Sloth and Chunk talking about Sloth's uniqueness as they traverse the tunnels

Nice to revisit in extended form after not watching for a good few years, definitely pick up more than when I was the age of the target audience! Shame about the poor quality of one restored scene but that is hardly Bobson's fault, likewise some of the differences in audio from the different sources too.

Found the cropping to 1:78:1 worked most of the time but there were quite a few occasions where it was obvious; probably have preferred a version which pillarboxed the deleted footage, particularly when it was obviously different from the rest already.

Would have to rewatch the original again to see if I prefer it or this one but that for putting this together regardless, let's hope that the story of discovery and restoration of lost footage for other films (including Goonies director Richard Donner's "Superman" 3-hour cut) will be repeated here too.

GOONIES is one of my all time favourite Movies.
I watched it so many times, that my first version on VHS died over it.

So, when there is a chance to see a fuller Version, i jumped for it and this edit is done very good.
Yes there is this once VHS Scenes that sufferd but and when you can let go you will have the joy of seeing something integrated that is otherwise lost.

Great Movie, Great edit and another example of fixing a classic to make it better.

Another great edit by Bobson Dugnutt. A few scenes suffered from low quality, but of course, the editor isn't at fault.

I somehow went my whole life without watching this movie so decided to make this my first viewing of it. No comments other than it was the usual great job of editing the scenes back where they belonged like they never left.

I was watching my mate on twitch the other night and we got to discussing goonies and we decided to give it a watch! But rather than chuck my copy in, I suggested this edit, and I am SO glad I did!!

We were both howling with laughter, because lets face it, The Goonies is an ultimate CLASSIC! But it was so good to see the restored content! As soon as something was new I was able to pin point it due to watching the Blu Ray version regularly! And it was really enjoyable watching scenes that I had never even seen before. Always baffles me when they add cut material into different TV versions!

I loved this edit from start to finish, the video editing is brilliant, there really is only one scene that has a degrade in quality, but its edited in so well, it makes no difference really. The audio, I don't know if it was just me, but certain parts seemed to be louder than others and I had to turn it up, then turn it back down again. Either way it wasn't too distracting.

This will now be my go to version of the film, nothing felt out of place or that it should be cut. Well.... maybe the dancing octopus... but... who doesn't love a dancing octopus? I'd have definitely put it back in, just adds that extra bit of zany to an already WHACKY movie!

Loved it! Thanks again Bobson for a top notch edit!

There's nothing new or intelligent to say really. It's a bit of extra footage that adds onto the classic film and doesn't look out of place. Classic extras for a classic film.
