Hancock: Tonight, He Comes
Updated
Synopsis:
A much darker version of Hancock: loads of silly humor and over-the-top action scenes were removed as well as Mary’s superpowers. This is the sombre story of a superhero dealing with his inner demons.
Intention:
To present a much darker version of Hancock by eliminating a lot the silly humour and over-the-top action sequences. Also, to remove Mary’s superpowers from the story. It’s now a much more sombre story of a superhero dealing with his inner demons that mirrors the classic story of a god falling in love with a mortal and the consequences involved.
Additional Notes:
I thought this was a decent movie right up to the point where the audience finds out that Mary is a superhero as well. They lost me with that, so I removed it. Now Mary is just a mortal human. There is also a much darker story here, and by eliminating a lot of the silly jokes and Michael Bay-esque CGI-laden action sequences, I hope I’ve brought it out.
This is my first attempt at “turd-polishing”. My other edits were just different takes on movies that I already considered to be quite good. I don’t think this is a great movie now, but I think it’s much better than it was.
The title of my edit refers to the original screenplay which was supposedly a much darker story. And yes, I’m well aware of the fact that it now sounds like the title for a really bad porn flick.

Saw this a while ago. Was an improvement over the original for sure, and has a good idea at its core, but unfortunately cutting Mary's superpowers doesn't work that well, especially the scene where Hancock fights Mary.

Pretty good edit. Hancock was a mixed bag - great premise, starts out well enough, some funny stuff, turns to shit fast but still holds your attention. This edit doesn’t entirely fix the movie but it’s much better than what it was. The handling of the last third was well done but left something to be desired.

It did simply not convince me. Started so well and then got so much worse, even than the original.

i enjoyed the first half of hancock in theaters. adabisi’s cut is a welcome change! still severely limited to the bipolar pic that was hancock, this is a great re-imagining.
