Synopsis:
Tree is a blissfully self-centered collegian who wakes up on her birthday and gets the eerie feeling that she's experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she once again magically wakes up and must relive the same day over and over until she figures out who murdered her.

A Dugnutt Cut aims to trim a few poor jokes here and there and shift around some scenes to create a greater emotional climax in the conclusion of the film. It's not too heavy of an edit as the film isn't too bad, but I feel its a much stronger film .
Intention:
I wanted to shift some scenes around near the end so that some plot lines are tied up, as they're erased in a reset earlier on, as well as cutting some fart and burp jokes.
Other Sources:
Happy Death Day (2017) Blu-Ray
Release Information:
Digital
Cuts and Additions:
- regraded film to look a lot less dull, brighter with less of a yellow wash
- cut "why are you looking at me like I'm taking a dump on your mum's chest"
- cut the burping and farting in the diner
- cut the Doc telling her about her scar tissue and that she should be dead, as it never comes up again and is only referred to in the sequel (and will be reused there in an edit)
- added deleted scene of Tree confronting the Doc about the mask
- moved the English Professor break up and Dad lunch to the end of the film
- cut the final phone call with Dad, as shortly after she sees him anyway
- cut Carter saying she;ll have to sleep in his roommates bed
- cut the Groundhog day reference, too self-referential for my liking

What the theatrical cut should have been.
The narrative of the movie has been saved.

As usual, Bobson's choice in movies to edit are great. I'm a big fan of their style of making only minor edits and rearrangements to further enhance a movie that is already good. The small rearrangement of the big "positive change" scenes felt right for the narrative, and the removal of the few scenes with really gross humor keep you from getting distracted or pulled out of the movie (and I agree with them about the Groundhog Day reference, why make people think about that while watching your film!?). Though you can't but think that the scene at the restaurant has been moved in the back of your head, simply based on the dialogue. I wish the editor had more to work with there!

The grading also makes the film look better overall, though I do wish the bitrate was higher. I didn't notice any obvious cuts in the audio or video made, so this works for a first time viewer or someone who's seen the original. It looks great on my 21-inch monitor, but it isn't quite high quality enough for a big TV. I would chalk this up as another win for Bobson Dugnutt, and I'm looking forward to the edit of the sequel mentioned, I trust I will agree with the changes being made!
