Synopsis:
Deathly hallows part 1 and 2 combined into one film, and made to feel more colourful, upbeat, positive and more in line with the earlier films. Harry, Ron and Hermione go on a quest to find and destroy the horcruxes and defeat the dark lord. There are setbacks along the way, but we no longer have to endure torture, suffering and scenes of depression.

We all know the situation is bad, we don't need it to be rubbed in. These heroes are fighting to save their world, we need to believe their world is worth saving. We need to feel hopeful.
Intention:
The mirror shard subplot is being removed, It doesn't really aid the main story. The whole doubting Dumbledore thing is being minimised, it doesn't serve anything. The heroes using unforgivable curses is removed. Grindelwald, godric's hollow, harry's wand breaking, not really necessary and being removed. The camping is being heavily reduced, and will stay in one place because it was so long and drawn out. The golden snitch was only really there to give harry one last look at his parents and sirius, but his focus should now be on his new family rather than dwelling on what he has lost, so these elements are removed. Dobby's death is way too overblown so it's reduced heavily. Mcgonnagal is rather bigoted towards Slytherin students, as we all know, they are not all evil, so that part is removed. The exploding bridge is unneeded so is removed, along with the extended battle scenes. These are not entirely relevant to the primary story and are just fanservice really.

Tremault’s combined edit breathes new life into the series' dark finale by stripping out unnecessary bleakness and restoring a sense of hope and adventure. This edit minimises drawn-out camping scenes, reduces Dobby’s prolonged death sequence, and reframes the journey to focus more on the trios’ camaraderie and determination rather than despair that way the story remains streamlined, allowing the central Horcrux quest to shine as an inspiring fight for a world worth saving. Additionally, the colour grading is adjusted to reflect that sentiment and make the film feel visually closer to the earlier, more vibrant instalments, giving the final battle a tone that feels more triumphant than grim. Those are all things that I agree with.

The things that I disagree with are unfortunately reflected in the story of the movie mostly, by removing certain plots the movie is left with showcasing the main storyline which is really lazily/badly written and it becomes more noticeable (such as Voldemort giving respite to Hogwarts in the middle of the attack, or he having time to casually chat with Snape about his wand not being technically functional for him even though he is obviously crushing Hogwarts and lastly not checking himself if Harry was dead etc...). The edit itself is superb (for one thing that I will mention), but it makes the movie's bad plotlines stand out more and makes the movie less enjoyable for me (that is why the narrative and enjoyment ratings reflect that).

Cuts that stand out narratively and technically. The first one is the name of the movie itself and that is "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" and we see the intro and explanation for Deathly Hallows in the edit. But only two of those are in the edit and they help the plot of the movie develop for both Ron and Hermione (as Dumbledores parting gifts for the trio) but Harry is left out even though he may have the most important one. The missing resurrection stone in the final scene makes the movie edit end with sort of a cliffhanger or kind of a bad script for Deathly Hallows. Also, it makes Harry's Horcrux act as an extra life (like in Super Mario) in itself which I don't agree with. (it could have been only shown in the woods prior to Voldemort killing him).

Second is cut which is more technical but also narrative based is the Gringotts entrance scene that removes the use of Imperio curse. (I get what was the vision for that, of heroes not using unforgivable curses). The trio enters Gringotts even though Griphooks audio/line is heard of goblins not believing them, and in comes the manager all drugged-like (without used Imperio curse on him) and takes them into the vaults. Later on in the vaults, he is still in an inexplicably drugged-like state and dies to a dragon. For a person watching this movie for the first time, this would be raising a lot of questions, but for a re-watcher like me I understand, but it is still a plot hole in itself.

Overall this version of Deathly Hallows offers a refreshing take on the trio’s journey, providing closure with a balanced mix of intensity and optimism. Thank you tremault and well done. But for me, if the things I mentioned are not in the plan to be corrected I respect your vision, just for me personally I won't be returning to this edit for rewatch.

I have edited my overall score since the movie title was an oversight that was promptly corrected so my point for Deathly Hallows is moot now. Thank you tremault.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I appreciate the narrative issues you brought up. These are things I thought a lot about and could never really come up with any satisfying alternatives. It was a case of torturing myself until I finally had to accept a sacrifice one way or the other. In the end I had to concede, the deathly hallows is no longer the title so I felt they were not really an important element, the symbol was just something that they were grasping at straws for some leads of some sort. I thought about removing Hermione's story in Xenophilius' house.... but was unsure if it could work...
Regarding Bogrod... I honestly didn't feel the imperio curse was portrayed accurately anyway. When 'Moody' talks about the Imperio curse in the goblet of fire, he seems to make it quite clear that the imperio curse is near undetectable, so Bogrod's behaviour is already inconsistent with that. I tried to remove him entirely for a good while, but i had to settle as I never would have finished it.

"It wrapped up the story of the franchise really well without getting too dire and keeping the magical hopeful feel of the franchise." - my mother after finishing Tremault's fantastic edit of Harry Potter 7+8, and I have to say I agree.

Among the fanedits I have seen for various films, Harry Potter and the Hunt for Horcruxes stands shoulder to shoulder with the best. The base films, Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2, make you wonder where did the wonder and optimism go? It's a harsh contrast to the first four films. Tremault's work does an excellent job restoring this feeling to the film; from the gorgeous colour regrade, to restructuring the presentation of the story for a lighter tone and tighter pacing.

Visual editing is truly flawless throughout the film and I never once felt taken out of the experience in a way that affected my enjoyment. As far as audio edits go, there are less than a handful of minor edits that went noticed by me but nothing that should bother your average non-editing viewer - I have reported these constructively over DMs.

I'm really pleased with the narrative path cut by the editor. Many sequences were shortened seamlessly, and where scenes were cut entirely, the narrative flow worked well and felt and natural. Deathly Hallows Part 1 occupies only the first 1h10mins of this edit, with the remainder using Part 2 material. So a significant amount of scenes have been cut, but I did not feel I missed many of them. There is a part in the story where one character departs for an amount of time and perhaps that segment felt shorter than expected - with the passage of time not being as clear as in the original cut - but knowing what was cut there, I understand it can be hard to communicate this without that scene.

Overall I would say this fanedit is, for my mother and I, now the definitive go-to cut of the movies that were shot by the studio. Nothing can be done about how aspects of the story were adapted from the book by the filmmakers, but this edit makes the best out of the material available in my opinion.

A big thank you to the editor and this community.

Ok well I am sat here buzzing somewhat with the titles rolling. It can only be a straight 10 for this one. Justly deserved.

'Harry Potter and the Hunt for the Horcruxes' is just perfectly quaint as originally comprehended. What is it with people trying to fix thing when they need no fixing. I'm wondering if the choice of colour palette may have been made on the basis on concealment of the blood, now though. Therefore 'The Deathly Hallows' were casualties of ninnydom. Something to be fixed there for sure.

Pacing is nigh on spot on and some choppyness here and there in terms of plotting seems necessary to maintain that up beat feeling. It felt like the powers of good and badness were in one big game of quiditch. I'm putting this effort on par with triumphs in the field of 'There and Back Again' shortenings. Afore finding FEORG I was one of the lamenters of loss of book content to the demands of cinema. Yet now I understand. Cut, and cut again until there is enough left over to put back together into a sideplot showing or something. Totally great stuff hopefully will be able to do a Harry Potter marathon with this to finish in time for bed soon.

My review:
UPDATED 10.15.24

As a little history on my fandom: I've read all the books multiple times and love the movies dearly as well, except for the final film. Deathly Hallows Part 2 is bad to me. A disgrace. The final fight scene of them flying around the castle made me so mad. The book's ending is so so far and away superior. They skimped on their CGI/greenscreening too. It just feels so rushed and bad.

With this new edit, the colors are boosted and it helps reflect the faster pace of the editing here. I like it. To me, the faster pace works well with the more vibrant colors. Slow and dark.. now vibrant and quick. I like the change. Your edits are seamless.

Well done Trem on splicing together the two films and making it not feel like a long epic. Even at about 3 hours it goes by fast.

I found several audio and/or visual errors/issues that Trem corrected. My scores have been adjusted to reflect her latest version.

I remember me being miserable, when watching the OG Cuts in a row.
Both films are very bleak and stiff at points, and they do have some extra fat on the site.
So, I was very much up for this Version, which, I think, does the trick.

I really enjoyed the film very much.
It's lighter, it's brighter, and some of the side plots are gone.
I know the Full versions very good, so I knew what was missing, and I still think, this version might even be good, for someone seeing them for the first time.
Why? Because, you will get the Main Story Arc of the last epic Movies, condensed in a very well done way.

The cuts worked very seemingly for me.
I was warned about Flash Screens, but did not notice anything.
The music ques work as well, and sometimes even better than I expected.
Like in the Limbo Scene, when the Main Theme hits....chills!

I personally stop, when the three of them are on the Bridge at the end.
I do not care for the "25 years later" scene at all.

I had a great time watching, and strongly recommend it!
