Synopsis:
Changes in v2.0:
Warning screen added to the beginning of the film.
Updated intro sequence with “WW” shield instead of “HP” shield.
Two audio tracks are now available in the video file, a 5.1 surround sound and a 2.0 stereo track.
Coloring adjusted on the spinning Knight Bus scene.
Added smoke effect to Great Hall post-Hogsmeade scene.
Trimmed the Fat Lady torn portrait scene to remove the duplicated line that was in the post-Hogsmeade scene. In my original edit, I left the duplicated line in to try to make it seem like Ron was overly excited about the Shrieking Shack. I received complaints about the duplicate line, so it was removed.

----

My inaugural fanedit and the first film in my set of Harry Potter extended editions. Certain deleted scenes have been incorporated that were not added back to the TV versions, or scenes created from other content to allow for the inclusion of a deleted scene. For PoA, all deleted scenes that have been released with the Blu-Rays have been reincorporated into the original movie.
Intention:
The intent of this project was to create a complete set of Harry Potter extended editions that mimic the versions seen on ABC Family/FreeForm, but are not exact duplicates. Certain deleted scenes have been incorporated that were not added back to the TV versions, or scenes created from other content to allow for the inclusion of a deleted scene.

Editing Details:
Prisoner of Azkaban was the first of the HP films that I approached editing, mainly due to the few number of scenes that could be added back. Despite this low number, there was some more delicate editing that I had to undertake and some learning that I had to do in order to accomplish the end result. The first scene was the blue screened Knight Bus spinning scene, which took some time to key out and erase cables holding Harry up. As I progressed through the edit, I found more that I wanted to do, like making Harry's face and hands change color when he ate the candy from Hogsmeade and creating a new scene from other clips so one of the deleted scenes could be added in.
Cuts and Additions:
- All deleted scenes have been added in (+ 1 new scene created)
- Added spinning Knight Bus scene with blue screen removed and spinning background added
- Added extended bird scene
- Added scene following the first trip to Hogsmeade
- Added Sir Cadogan portrait scene
- Added a new Sirius Black attack scene so the Common Room deleted scene would make sense when added.
- Added Common Room scene following Black's attack

For fans of Prisoner of Azkaban, this is a phenomenal edit. I've seen the film a couple times, and had great difficulty picking out what was edited here...it's seamless. In addition, the completed effects scene looks very professional, I would never guess it had been done by a faneditor. I also have to compliment the music use and synching, as it fits perfectly (unlike some edits which wedge in music that feels out of place). All in all, this is high quality all the way.

The only thing I marked down is the "enjoyment" rating, which is purely due to problems I have with this film. The script absolutely butchers the book, and this leads to events and revelations piling up quickly with lots of Hollywood conveniences that don't seem organic or have explanation. It's left to the audience to make lots of assumptions (for example why a student has the power of time travel in this movie only, why all these adults know Harry's parents, know the map, know each other, why Harry suddenly has godlike power in this movie only, etc, etc). There are so many pretentious shots and directorial flairs that don't serve the story at all (like showing the passing of each season with shots of the tree) and the accumulation just rubs me the wrong way. Some of the additions to this film (like the extended bird scene and night bus scene) actually make me like it less. I would really "enjoy" an edit of this film that attempts to trim more out, though really there's only so much that can be done due to the script and direction.

Still, I'm aware that this is some people's favorite HP movie, likely for all the reasons I disliked above. This is an edit which aims to give fans more of the film they like, and in that, it succeeds perfectly. Great job, JJ Potter.

Amazing edit! The only issue I'm having is that every time a scene transitions, the audio echoes for about 5-6 seconds. I've tried all three audio tracks, and it doesn't resolve.

Otherwise, super cool!

In terms of the fan edit, the extended scenes slow the pace of the film and don't add anything in terms of character and world-building. It felt more like filler than anything. They were also of lower video quality. On the other hand, the scenes were added in flawlessly.

Overall, I can't recommend this over the theatrical release.

Excellently well made edit. You barely notice the transition between the movie and the deleted scenes. The only reason you notice it is because of the lower quality of 1 or 2 scenes, which is obviously out of the editor's control.

It's easy to see why the deleted scenes were cut, and personally I'll continue to watch the theatrical version of the movie, as I don't think any of the added scenes add much value to the mix here.

However, in terms of the technical proficiency, all the deleted scenes are masterfully integrated into the movie by JJPotter, with only a couple of very minor audio or visual issues plaguing one or two of them. How good they look here really is a testament to his abilities. So this fan edit does what it sets out to do near flawlessly, and it's absolutely worth the watch if you're interested in more Prisoner of Azkaban. Definitely recommend.

I'm not gonna talk about this edit specifically but rather all of JJ's Harry Potter extended editions. This couldn't have been an easy undertaking and the hard work he's done definitely shows in all of the edits. Every deleted scene incorporated into each film's narratives is flawlessly put back in and add a lot to the story and characters, as well as fix some issues these films have. He's taken a wonderful franchise and made it even better, to the point where all of these extended cuts have now become my go-to versions of these films. Nicely done, and keep up the good work! If there's one in the works for The Crimes of Grindelwald, I'm curious.
