I am a big fan of "Play Misty For Me". Yes, it drags at times, Eastwood overdoes the 70's love & peace sex scenes, and it's about a half-hour too long - but Eastwood the tough guy playing a poetry-reading, jazz-loving DJ with a psychotic Jessica Walters stalking him in beautiful Carmel, CA works like a charm.

As far as transforming it into a psychedelic horror-thriller, mission accomplished. The combination of Bitches Brew and Herrmann scores works extremely well, giving the film a 50's, 60's, and 70's feel all at the same time, while tightening the whole movie up and improving on the pacing: Alfred Hitchcock at Monterey Jazz. The tension is higher, and Evelyn Draper's descent into madness is more immediate and manic.

There were a few moments of dissonance, such as the AI Eastwood dialogue, and the act structure may not have been necessary, but these are nitpicks. The opening credit sequence sets up the whole bad trip perfectly, and I now have a harsher, meaner version of Misty to enjoy. Recommended!
