One of the biggest problems I had with the original film is that it's weirdly non chronological and the constant flashbacks which take the whole feeling of being trapped in this cabin away.

The other thing this edit added is a bit more ambiguity and mystery to the characters of the four horseman.

And the biggest thing it does. The runtime is perfect, it's a thing for me but the 80 minute runtime is perfection for me.

Was planning on doing an edit of this myself but now that this one is out I don't see much point to it. The ending is still weak for me but no amount of editing can fix it.

So yeah anytime I wanna watch this film it will be this edit.

I was not much a fan of the original movie and only watched it because I received the blu-ray as a gift. I did, however, always think that there was a decent movie there, just not as originally presented.

Although I tend to like non-linear story-telling, the original movie does not effectively utilize that form.

I was so pleased with JasonFlippy's "The Mist" Edit, that I thought I'd give this edit a view.

Impressive is the word that comes to mind after watching this edit.

As previous reviewers have already noted, removing the excessive and unnecessary flashbacks, and re-sequencing the movie into a chronological presentation fixes the primary reasons the original movie didn't work.

I especially liked how the tension gradually builds to its fever pitch; whereas the original becomes muddled and lost in its too self-serious tone.

There were a few points in the edit where the audio sort "drops-off" and there are some "static-y" sounds in two places as well. However, these ultimately do not detract from the viewing experience.

Overall, while watching this edit, my wife and I both felt like we were trapped in this cabin along with the characters. Something we did not feel when watching the original.

Another excellent outing from JasonFlippy! I'm keen to see what he will do next . . .

The movie doesn't have a good climactic ending and it is bloated with fillers and flashbacks.
The edit is clearly better choice for rewatch but I think it is still fat and another 16-17 minutes can be trimmed. Make it super cut.
Still more enjoyable than the theatrical.

A streamlined presentation of a middling adaptation of an excellent book I haven't read, but should.

A/V QUALITY

Pristine.

AUDIO EDITING

There was one music transition that didn't seem entirely natural to me, and I there were two subtle audio pops in one section, but otherwise seamless.

VISUAL EDITING

Seamless.

NARRATIVE

Some smart excisions. At least one flashback is retained (good!), and the story moves along at a well-metered pace.

ENJOYMENT

It's by no means a favourite of mine, but since this represents an IMPROVEMENT of the original, I rate this a 10.

Thank you kindly, jasonflippy

Transforming the story into a chronological sequence and removing the excess flashbacks addresses the primary issues of the original film. This version is well-paced, with tension that steadily escalates.. Experiencing the film in this format was far more satisfying, making it my go to version in the future.
