Synopsis:
The Quatro Cut is a light handed edit of the generally great Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. About 3 minutes in total are removed completely. In addition the original opening to the film is completely reworked to get the viewer directly into the main story and bypass one of the worst acted sequences in the film.
Intention:
I really enjoyed this movie the first time I watched it, I was very happy that it was essentially a continuation of the successful trilogy that began 15 years prior and not a typically Hollywood reboot. There just seemed to be a few nagging problems that kept taking me out of the narrative. These problems seemed to boil down to a couple bad casting/ bad storyline choices. I set out to remove these and make this film the best it could be.

I removed several made for TV style scenes and story choices that really took me out of the film the first time I watched it. I also encoded the foreign language subtitles directly into the video for easy streaming over the internet or a media server.
Cuts and Additions:
The first issue I chose to correct was the film's opening sequence set in Budapest. This sequence stars Josh Holloway of LOST fame and Paula Patton. Josh turns in a very made for TV performance in these scenes and it really took me out of the film. This sequence wraps up on an odd sort of secret lovers scene between Josh and Paula that was very made for TV and seemed out of place since we barely know these characters. This sequence has no bearing on the film until after the prison sequence in Moscow so instead of visiting the sequence twice in the first 15 minutes of the film, I have just cut it and replaced it where it falls naturally.

The other major scene correction occurs at the party in Mumbai. Here we find Anil Kapoor playing a very made for TV Indian billionaire character. His interaction with Paula Patton has been cut down to the essentials removing primarily the hide-and-go-seek game. Also cut here is the odd romanticism inserted between Cruise's character and Paula's character. We spend most of the movie wondering what happened to Ethan's wife making this feel very out of place.

Other than that there are a couple blink and you'll miss it corrections and the number 4 added to the movie's title to remind viewers that this is in fact a continuation not a reboot of the Mission Impossible franchise. I also wrote all the foreign language subtitles and encoded them into the film for easy streaming.

I don't have anything else to add that other reviewers haven't already said. The restructuring of the opening sequence was an excellent idea and worked so much better!

My only complaint is that this movie had a lot of silly humor. Many of these jokes are scenes that could be easily removed and it's a shame that no editor has done that..

Anyway, I definitely recommend this edit for the opening sequence alone!

Thank you Jerick for all your hard work and thanks to anyone who read my review!

As i read the change list of this edit, i already agreed on the choices made. These alterations adress the unnecessary plot pieces and removes them. So i like the edit narrative-wise.
Technically:
- flawless editing (a unbiased viewer wouldn´t notice anything was changed, video or audio)
- the rework of the opening scene is nice and tight
- the quality is good enough (i´m a little addict regarding to have the highest bitrate possible without noticing a loss of quality. I did catch some artifacts but i watched on a 4k projector with a 100 inch screen, so for most of the viewer the quality will be more than enough)

Thanks for this great edit :)

Although I've seen MI: GP at least 4-5 times before, I didn't notice any cuts in this edit, either visually or auditorily. The removal of the Agent Hannover (Josh Holloway) scene at the beginning always seemed like something that needed to happen, and I'm glad to see a version of this (still great) film without that scene there. I also liked the toned-down performance of the seduced rich guy and the fact that Ethan and Jane no longer flirt during the party scene. I gave the original film an 8 on IMDB, but this version gets a 9.

It's amazing how much difference a few minutes can make.
