Agree with bionicbob, merely changing the music from Bernstein's for "The Great Escape" to Morricone's for "Violent City" used here makes it feel like a grimy 1970s crime thriller film as opposed to a glossy 1960s war adventure. I must say that I also prefer the former, this one's soundtrack making it feel more emotionally distant.

As with BB I think the narrative feels a little abbreviated, though this seems to be a result of Tarantino's decisions rather than Wraith's. The cutting is seamless, there was nothing I could note that gave away the edit's unofficial nature, and am certainly looking forward to seeing what effect new music in any future versions might have.

Again....WOW!

Very impressive. This has turned into truly a fascinating experiment.

Same cut but a completely different feel on every single level. And in many instances, completely altering the interpretation and intention of a scene. It truly showcases the power and influence a score has over the viewer and narrative.

I found the Morricone score made the movie tone much darker compared to the Bernstein version, or even Morricone's original Tarantino release. There are many moments where the score feels very bleak and hopeless, even nihilistic at times. The new Morricone score is also very eclectic; to the point where it sometimes feels at odds with itself. An example of this is the climax in the theatre, where everyone is screaming and running, the soundtrack takes on a very modern urban sound to my ear, that seemed in conflict with the period setting.

Technically, a masterclass in audio editing and a stunning achievement.

But on a personal enjoyment level, this Morricone score was less effective for me. It was less comfortable and fun. Which is of course the point of the exercise. If I had to choose, I prefer the Bernstein version, just because it checks my nostalgia box for those type of mission movies of that bygone era.

Thumbs Up for me!

Having just watched Bernstein's and Moriccone's Basterds, I have to say there is such a different tone to this one! The soundtrack is very understated, very soft throughout, and really makes the movie feel a bit more dreamlike and less bombastic. I won't list everything, just some moments that really stuck out to me:

- The baseball bat scene was very brutal without the exciting score over it, and it really became much more upsetting to watch.
- I could feel the quiet subterfuge and tension during the stakeout near and inside the bar.
- The score when Landa is talking to Aldo and Utovich really made Landa's turncoating feel more evil and gross
- Driving away in the woods felt trimphahant and also, in a weird way, playful
- Reusing the same score theme from Aldo's speech in the beginning later on during Shoshanna's red dress scene was genius. They're both getting their war faces on for Nazi killing and the music connects their minds.

Overall great great work! Genuinely felt different than your Bernstein selections, and changed the tone even further into a more serious and sad movie. Others have said they preferred Bernstein's Basterds but I have to say I think this one is slightly better. The material deserves this kind of a serious approach as well as a fun one.
