As much as I love the Phantasm series, the first entry in particular operates on a level of dream logic/unlogic that suggests a less-ambitious David Lynch movie. I was hoping that this extended edition would smooth over some of the plot cave-ins, but instead it just creates more confusion. Not to say it isn't still a lot of fun (it's still got all the muscle cars and death balls you'd expect) but the baffling ice cream fight scene does more harm than good, and the rest of the additions are pretty neutral, and may work better as they were, smack in the middle of the otherwise mediocre Phantasm IV.
Ultimately, good for a change but not a shelf-replacer, especially for the Bad Robot-produced remaster.
