Synopsis:
This is the creation and eventual destruction of the universe. With music by Tool.
Intention:
Terrence Malick’s original idea for “Tree of Life” was a project called “Qasida,” or “Q” for short. It was to be a story about the origins of life and featured a “sleeping god, underwater, dreaming of the origins of the universe, starting with the big bang and moving forward, as fluorescent fish swam into the deity’s nostrils.” I wasn’t trying to recreate this idea, as that would be too difficult. So I figured I’d just use the trippy parts of “Tree of Life” and sync it up to some Tool.
Tool’s album “10000 Days” has a hidden track, go Google it if you don’t know anything. It’s a pretty awesome track and it seemed to fit well with the visuals.

Additional Notes:
It is strongly suggested you watch this twice. The first time without lyrics (on Vimeo or DVD) and then with lyrics (on DVD). And smoke a joint or two.
Other Sources:
“The Fountain” for a couple shots.

Release Information:

Special Features:
DVD: Optional lyrics subtitles. (This can be found on the disc “Neglify Shorts Volume 1”.)
Editing Details:
Cut down “Tree of Life” to focus just on the creation and destruction of the universe. Overlaid Tool tracks and synced myself. The sync I made differs slightly from the ones you’ll find on YouTube.

From the DVD, Neglify Shorts Vol 1. An excellent distillation of Malick’s Tree Of Life. The original film is a so-called masterpiece. Omit the phrase “so-called” and you have Neg’s Q.
Video: 720 X 480p MPEG. Good resolution throughout. Nothing weird or odd.
Audio: 2 Channel AC3, 192 Kbps. Creative use of an obscure Tool song that flows extremely well with the visuals.
Enjoyment: Much as I admire Malick, I found this movie a pretentious snooze. Neg’s Q is a trippy light show. Don’t pay attention to his suggestion either. Watching it 2 times - watch it 2 dozen! I wish this was on IMAX.

Tool's music powers this wonderful mindtrip involving the creation and destruction of the universe. Perfectly timing the beautiful imagery to the guitar heavy track, neglify presents a piece that reaches out and touches all the feelings. I'd have preferred spending an incy bit more time on earth and mammal creation which we quickly zip through.
If you ever wanted to feel how small you really are and wondrously big the universe is, look no further.

Wowsers. Music went beautifully with the imagery and this is a must watch for anyone who is a fan of Tool. I will say that unlike some, I am not a fan of the "hidden" track, but it works very well the way it is used here.
