From the DVD, Neglify Shorts Vol 1, though this can also be found on Part of Consecution Six - Shut Up!
Great job of condensing Van Sant’s underrated (under-viewed) Elephant.
Video: MPEG 720 X 480p. Editing was all first rate. Several scenes could have extended a beat or two or three longer. I’m not complaining, just got caught up in the mood at times and wanted to linger.
Audio: 6 Channel AC3, 448 Kbps. On the sound system, I noticed the immediate shift from 2 channel to 6 channel. Music choices, from Floyd to Tool, blend well and enhance the short.
Narrative: Incredibly, this holds together and the germ of the story is easy of understand.
Enjoyment: I did not think I would, especially since Van Sant is a director I kick at frequently. Nevertheless, I liked this. May not rewatch often (SPOILER - film is a downer - END SPOILER). The short is poignant, brooding, steeped in fatalism.

I'm a big Tool fan, so Schism kicked in I had a big smile. And that quickly turned into disorientation when i realized it was just the bass track... Which was perfect... And then you even get some jazz and odd sound effects thrown on top. It seemed so jarring and out of place, yet perfectly complemented the story. Well done. My only complaint is that it was too quiet compared to the opening music. Great story otherwise and a neat little wink-wink, nudge-nudge with the film editing student.

Lyrical and horrifying, with the music holding up the atmosphere superbly. The ending is open to interpretation, and given that the tragedy is well known, a departure from hard reality works really well here.
