Synopsis:
What if Scott Pilgrim Vs The World was actually a 16-bit beat-'em-up game? The answer is here, in the form of the least interactive videogame ever made! Scott Pilgrim: Punch-Out!! Edition is the Munchkin version of the Scott Pilgrim story - i.e. less talking & mushy relationship stuff, and more retro videogame homages and punching.
Intention:
This started out as a learning project; while learning my way around Premiere Elements, I thought it would be fun to see what would happen if I cut down the film to the bare minimum needed for the story and fight scenes to make sense, with the storytelling from classic retro games like Ninja Gaiden in mind. To my surprise it seemed to work well, so as I got to grips with the software I decided to make a full-length version of the film with a retro-gaming storytelling approach.

This edit was created with Adobe Premiere Elements 10, Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, and Audacity 2.0.2. I have learned something of the limitations of Premiere Elements through creating this edit, and they chiefly relate to its audio editing and DVD authoring functions. 5.1 sound editing is all but impossible in PRE, despite 5.1 sources being supported as inputs, so any substantial sound editing was done in Audacity 2.0.2 - for example, the abbreviated version of Anamanaguchi's Penpal used for the DVD title menu, or the condensed version of We Are Sex Bob-Omb in the opening scene. Similarly, the DVD authoring functions are straightforward but oddly limited - so while you can have video backgrounds in your menu screens, and animated menu items, there's a maximum of 25 chapters and a restriction to one chapter selection screen (which is why I had to bundle the extra features into the "Level Select" menu).
On the plus side, I've been using Photoshop Elements for image editing for years, and PRE's native support for PSD files makes any image work easier - so any changes required to images used in the project can be made in Photoshop and saved to the PSD, with PRE automatically detecting the changes and updating the project. This was very useful when creating the radical alternate ending and the DVD title menu.

Cuts and Additions:
There are far too many changes to list individually, because the film was originally a little under 2 hours and is now a little under 1 hour. There is some new material added, alongside a huge amount of cuts. Anything not absolutely vital to keep the core Scott + Ramona storyline moving is gone, which means an awful lot of the banter and wisecracking has been trimmed or minimised.

I loved the Scott Pilgrim movie and I love old school video games, so this fanedit was perfect for me. The passion that the editor has for the material and his intention is clearly visible in this edit. It feels like a super-high-tech SNES video game.
A/V Quality: Perfectly fine DVD5 quality. And the audio sounded good coming from my 2.0 headphones. 9/10
Visual Editing: There were some fades that could have been done better, but they didn’t distract me. The blending of the animated segments were perfect and sealed the deal on the video game experience. 9/10
Audio Editing: I loved all the added music and sound effects. Great work there. Not every transition was perfect, but nothing terrible. 8/10
Narrative: Excellently done. The set-up cut scenes feel like set-up cut scenes. The fight stages and level transitions were perfectly staged.
(DVD data that applies to Narrative.) Really nice DVD menus. I would have made those “Bonus Levels” separate special features instead of end-credit segments, but that’s kinda nitpicking since you set up the chapter marks correctly.
10/10 Narrative.
Enjoyment: This was such a blast to watch. Highly recommended if you’re a fan of either Scott Pilgrim or old school video games. 10/10

*NOTE: I discussed this edit with @That One Guy, and this review takes into account the fact that this was their first ever edit. If they ever remaster this one, I wanna be first in line to watch it.*
What a really unique idea! It reminds me a bit of the Tarantino Tales, fully abbreviating the story into less than an hour (plus a bunch of post credits alternate endings)! The quick setup, the video game inserts, the cute sound effects, the title cards, they all add up to a story cooking along at high speed.
Aside from some sound effects being overly loud, the audio and music changes are smoothly done. Where this edit suffers is purely in terms of visual editing: there are a few errant frames; lots of fading between scenes; black bars that can be removed; etc. Even still, many of the other cuts went entirely unnoticed by me so I think it's just a case of going back and tightening it up, smoothing over the transitions. There's also a slightly noticeable difference in some scene quality.
But listen, all of that is to say I had an absolute BLAST with this one, regardless of any issues. It's such a fun movie and this was a fun way to watch it! Your narrative choices were great and I laughed quite a bit at what you left in and your sound effects. Congrats on realizing a very unique idea!!

That was a really enjoyable edit. I already liked the original one, but this takes it to another level, more videogame so than the original.
It was really cool, great editing, sound and you don't feel the hours passing, it is just a good way to see it.

Foreword: I haven't seen the original in sometime, which I prefer for watching edits and I also didn't review the changes (log) ahead of watching, which I also prefer. I looked at the edit list back when I downloaded the edit, but I like to not know what I'm walking into; I don't watch an edit for a few months or more after downloading it.
What I liked: I enjoyed some of the new music as well. It was engaging and had a stream lined story. The video game graphics and cut scenes were awesome, made the whole thing feel exciting.
What I didn't: The intro was very good at letting you know what was happening but between the fight scenes I didn't always understand the jump. If I was going to be nit-picky, I'd also mention that it is pointed out as 8-bit graphics but the graphics are 16-bit (at least I thought so judging them by the NES and SNES)...really a very small thing.
Overall: I really enjoyed this and it felt more ambitious than most edits, and for that reason if felt fresh and a very different experience than the original. I would recommend people check this out. I don't think this replaces the original but it does sit well alongside the original.
Extra: Keep up the good work. I think if you had the time and will you could make this even more compelling. Some of the scenes cut in were a lot lower quality, which is not your fault and made them standout. The new footage might sit along with the main footage better, if the main footage was slightly lower quality too? Just a thought.

I went into this having enjoyed the original but I hadn't watched it since I bought it five years ago. So I was a bit rusty on it though I remember really enjoying it but there being too much crammed into it.
What a clever edit this is. It paces this at a breakneck speed, with it feeling really like an old school game. Even more so than the original. I cannot recommend this enough; it was a really cool way to reimagine a cool movie.

I really enjoyed this edit. The original movie fell down in many ways as it tried to cram as much of the six books into a feature-length film. That One Guy manages to do something different here, using footage from the video game to make an edit of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, the narrative is of the fights and manages to do this pretty well.
The video game opening manages to avoid a lot of the early story and brings us up to speed wth the story at the start of the first battle. It does this comfortably and I really didn't feel like anything was missing.
There were a couple of moments where I wondered if there'd been a hard-edit or if it was like this originally. If I hadn't been watching in knowledge this was a fanedit, I certainly wouldn't have noticed. The audio editing was also subtle so even if there might have been issues, they were soft and mostly unnoticable.
The pacing of the edit was excellent, there was enough of the peripheral story to give it a real plot and I also enjoyed all of the bonuses included, including the alternate endings.
A thoroughly enjoyable edit.
